Earlier today I went to go turn on my Robotron2084 machine to get some gaming action on, but instead I was thrown a light/dark orange barred screen. So I turned off the power supply leading to the game boards and saw the monitor turn black or empty, basically as though it were not getting a signal from a video board. So I turned the power supply back on and pulled the machine from the wall and looked at the ROM board. I noticed that the digital counter wasn't lit up so I turned the PSU off and on again and spotted that the counter would light up for a blip and turn back off.

I am under the assumption that the power supply may be going bad or at least not providing the right power. I just wanted to check in here first and see if anyone else has opinions or ideas before I start digging around.

The 2 biggest issues with these are power supply and ram. If you don't already have a switcher in it, that's a good place to start. But be aware that you will occasionally lose settings and scores with a switcher (has to do with how the voltages come online).

What he said.

Check all the fuses for continuity. If it's the original linear power supply, check the +5, -5, +12. If you're missing any of them, reflow all the solder on the connectors on the back of the PS board and go from there. Rebuild kits are inexpensive.

Thanks, looking into it.

How did it go? Did you get it fixed?

I checked the voltages comming from the PSU going to the boards and they all checked out fine. A few leads to the logic board are reading a little variance from the 5/12v requirements from the schematics. Then with the sound board there are three leads: -12v, +12v, and ground. According to the schematics the +/-12v leads were flip-flopped! But I hooked everything up and it's running again. I assume something was loose and reseeding the connectors from the PSU worked. Should I be bothered by the sound connection though, everything sounds fine.
