Official.

Now all we need are some Player's Choice titles for the machine. $50 for Mario Party 8 and Twilight Princess is crazy.

I'll pick one up at $99 maybe. By the time I pick up a system, all the games I want will be dirt cheap(all five of them---err, except SSBB.)

Just saw this news this morning. I figured it ws only a matter of time before it would happen. Good move by Nintendo but I agree that the time has come for Player's Choice editions to hit the shelves. Granted I probably already own the titles that would be released under that type of label.

I was wondering when they'd get around to doing this. I know the Wii isn't doing very well in Japan right now, with the PS3 outselling it, so pricedrops are the next step in getting sales up. Of course, they could have a better screening process for their licensed games and put out better first-party titles to attract new buyers, but that's a lot more work than just lowering the price on hardware they've sold at a profit for years now.

If it does drop, it will help Nintendo gain some marketshare.

But the question is...who doesn't have the console by now? I thought everyone who wanted one, with a few exceptions, already had purchased it.

The price drop probably won't have the same impact as the 360 and PS3 drops since the Wii was already considered pretty reasonably priced by most consumers. I suspect it will help sales to people who traditionally have owned multiple platforms and just haven't bought a Wii yet and certainly should boost Japanese market sales.

I guess the question should be when will the next version of the Wii be released? Meaning, are there going to be different colored systems available, like they did with the N64 or Gamecube?

I'd definitely bank on it. There hasn't been a single Nintendo system not to get either a redesign or new colors.

It'll probably be a while since the whole supply and demand thing was out of wack a few years back, that probably set back plans for a new color release.

I'd like to see the Wii in a nice Black color though.

ya i dont see the price drop doing much, everyone has finally realized the wii is just a toy and that 199 is a much more appropiate price, but in my opinion still high for what you get, how about maybe 129? a price around there would move some systems.

There's already a black Wii that was released in Japan (http://www.gamepro.com/article/news/211265/update-black-nintendo-wii-revealed-in-photos-looks-ps3-esque/) only.

Thats a good idea, i didnt think of a bundle deal, since basically everyone who buys a wii plans on using it mainly for multiplayer, whether local or online, it would definitely make sense for a wii system to always include at least 2 wiimotes and nunchuks in the box.

Nintendo so do a bundle - Like Zelda, Metroid Prime or Mario bundle. Different colour would be nice.

A red Wii with the launch of New Super Mario Bros. Wii would be a great move for $199.

Kinda pointless now. Anybody who wants one has probably already bought one!

I've not bought one yet. I'm willing to bet that there are a few people out there who haven't gotten around to getting it yet.

That's the sad part about the Wii. The good games come in bursts. You get one every now and then, when all of a sudden, Nintendo decides to release a bunch of their first party games. After that...poof...waiting for anything decent...

:bad-words:

I would upgrade my Wii if they would add on HDMI support without having to use 3rd party cables (which don't do much).

This news makes me glad I sold mine to get a 360 when I did, or else I would have lost money on it. Still, I might eventually pick another one up once there are more worthwhile games at reasonable prices (It's still crazy that ExciteTruck, which wasn't even that popular to begin with, still costs $50 new).

I've seen a couple posts with people thinking everyone and thier mother has one by now. Tat may have held true for awhile but I used to have one and traded mine in with the lack of titles and quality of games.
Working at a game store myself I've seen countless people do the same...we're currently sitting on more used Wii systems than new!
I think many people, myself included, will be re-buying a Wii for the lower price as the titles are plentiful enough now to be worth it.
All the past mario's, metroids, zelda, etc. (which I haven't played due to $50 price tags) and future titles: Motion Plus games, Muramasa, Little King Story, New SMB, Mario Galaxy 2, etc.

I wonder if people on craigslist will finally stop trying to sell their used ones for $250 now?

Whatever. I run an afterschool program. I'd love a price drop at this point, that's another $50 I can budget towards a game or more wiimotes.

Does that mean you're buying a Wii because of the price drop?

I was going to ask how many people here are going to be buying a Wii because of the drop. It seems like most people either have one already or aren't planning on getting a Wii for any price.

I was strongly tempted, but decided to continue holding off. And if I was willing to spend $200 frivolously on anything right now, I'd first buy the Beatles remasters boxed set before the Wii.

(Fortunately for me I can't get the boxset right now - otherwise I'd be stuck trying to decide whether to go Mono or Stereo, and I just can't decide which I'd get!)
