Hey guys,

I've had a decent amount of dev stuff come through my hands, but I'm having a tough time figuring out what I have here. I just snagged this on Ebay, and it looks like a normal XBox with a few exceptions:

It has a prototype sticker just like the ones I had on my Debug and Dev Kits, but what is with the "Live Enabled" sticker?

I've never owned a retail XBox, but as far as I can tell this one functions just as one would. Anyone know the story behind these? What function were they supposed to perform? Are they uncommon or desirable? Rough idea of what some have sold for in the past maybe? The only background I have on it is that the person who sold it to me bought it at a flea market in Washington (I think they said Seattle area, but can't remember).

Thanks for the help!

Does it play normal retail disks? I thought all of the beta live boxes were the transparent green.

Do all prototype consoles work with Xbox Live? Maybe that's the difference.

Alright, the guys over on assembler have identified that the serial number corosponds with the model:

Xbox console xmode3 with genealogy

What that means exactly, and what the function of this system was, I am still not sure of. Anyone have a similar system? As far as I can tell, it functions as a retail XBox, though I've never used a retail console before. Thanks for the help guys!

I don't know if you still have this, or if you still need help on figuring out what it is. When the original Xbox came out, most of them didn't have ethernet or USB for a wireless adapter. I've got one of the first prototypes that looks almost the same as yours but doesn't have networking. This xbox is able to connect to XBL using certain games, some even had free xbox live since they programmed the subscription stuff after testing live on these consoles.
