Well, like the title says I may be looking for something I can play with one hand. I will know for sure next week when I go to the doctor about when I will have surgery on my right arm. I am right handed so this will suck I'm sure.
Anyway I was trying to come up with some ideas for something I can play with one hand since I will be home 3-4 weeks. I was thinking there may be some kind of RPG or something I could do one handed. I played through Lost Odyssey a while back and I loved it but I have been unable to get into any strategy type RPG's.
I have the following systems right now so please post about any suggestions you might have. XBOX 360, Wii, NES, SNES, Genesis, PS2. Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

FF12. Set up your gambits and the characters do everything and all you have to do is move around. For that very reason it's a pos.

Diablo 2 can be use one handed. You can also try Titan Quest. Titan Quest is like Diablo clone with 3d graphics.

Yeah any turn based RPGs without time limits to take action are easily playable. It may take longer for you to select actions by moving your hand to the other side of the controller for other buttons, but you will still be able to play it.
Some classic maze style arcade games like Pac-Man can also be played one handed. Ms. Pac-Man for Sega Genesis or Super Nintendo is really nice as it has many levels to choose from and a pac-booster to give you a faster speed if you turn it on.

warcraft III only takes the mouse from what i remember. I never used hotkeys so the left hand was not needed by me.

if you have a wii and wii sports, all games can be played with one hand. I had an injury to my left hand during work, and I could still play one of my fav games - wii sports baseball

It's pretty stunning that so many threads have been made for one-handed gaming.
I'll just say this again, but Earthbound proves once again to be one of the greatest games ever, since they made it so it can be played with only the left hand. L can be used for confirm. Select can be used for cancel. Pressing select then L brings up the menu screen. You can do everything with your left hand except ring the bell on the bicycle! (which is completely superfluous, don't worry about it)

If we're going the PC route...probally about 99% of casual games can be played with just the mouse.

Thanks, for the replies. This one may be the best yet though. I was thinking about a turn based RPG I may look into some of those. Recommendations are welcome on this to. Thanks
Pong for the PS1. It is surprisingly addictive too. If you want straight turn-based strategy then grab a copy of civ III. You can get the civ III complete and civ city rome combo for $10 at Wal-Mart last time I checked.

There is a really awesome one hand PS1 controller out there. You could probably find it on ebay w/o any problem (or here even). It might work on PS2 games as well. But, if it doesn't, any PS1 RPGs are perfect to play with it. Probably not great for action games though.
Does anyone have more info about the controller I was talking about for the OP?

Diablo 2 can be use one handed.
By the time you're done you'll need a game you can play with 0 hands.
Also, how ya gonna get fresh without the ability to use item hotkeys, smarty pants? Moving the mouse to trigger them wastes precious reaction time.

My mind immediately went into the gutter when I saw the thread title.
I was going to suggest Metal & Lace or Leisure Suit Larry 7.
Or Super Mario Bros. Oh Princess Toadstool....

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice for All
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations
And if your arm out for a really long time, throw in Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney. But the storyline goes to shit in that one and hopefully it'll be retconned.

I don't rely on hotkeys for the longest time I play Diablo 2. Beside I never use potions, scrolls and toggle magic while in battle. I just favor point and click hack and slash.

I don't know about a PS1-specific controller, but I can suggest one of Ben Heckendorn's Access Controllers (http://www.edimensional.com/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=143). It's designed for PS2 and therefore will work with PS1 through back-compatibility. I bought one last year for my daughter, who has fine motor trouble with one hand, and it works pretty well, although her hand is still somewhat small in proportion to the controller. But the nice thing about the Access is that the control modules can be repositioned anywhere so you can experiment with layout until you find something that works. My daughter gets along pretty well with this playing Katamari Damacy and even Soul Calibur III. I think I'm going to spring for the optional 360 adapter this year because I'll never hear the end of it from her if she can't play Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2.
The only caveat about the Access is that it might be a lot of money for the OP to lay out given that he's going to be incapacitated for only a few weeks.

Why does everyone keep saying pocket pool is free? It's like 20!

Plus, I wouldn't want to play PSP one handed, I'd be afraid of dropping it.

I'm pretty sure there was a thread on this awhile back I think.... anyway my suggestions would be any DDR game, singing in Rock Band, Wario Ware Touched (DS), Professor Layton (either one) and Pac-man.

I also imagine the Phoenix Wright games would be perfectly playable with one hand. Sorry to hear you need surgery, I hope you have a speedy and painless recovery.

Just about any Wii game that requires only the WiiMote can be played one handed.

Wii games are your best bet. But you could also get yourself a one handed controller for PS2 and you can enjoy pretty much any traditional JRPG, assuming your fast enough for the ones with timed battles.

They have them for SNES as well. Shouldn't be to hard to track one down.

Play some Guitar Hero, you pansy. I'm a doctor and I say it's okay.
Why no PC games? There's plenty of great, basic PC games you can use your left hand/mouse for, ie Peggle.

Exactly, pretty much the law of casual gaming is that you have to be able to use only the mouse. And they aren't all that bad. Try World of Goo. Or many Wii games.
And yeah, I remember a similar thread before as well.
Edit-
Or, after looking at my avatar, point and click games...I would highly recommend Fate of Atlantis. It's on the new Indiana Jones Wii game (for fairly cheap) but you may need help unlocking it. It's easy to unlock and you can do it early on but you'd need 2 hands.

I second that. ANY old-style, turn-based RPG with a "wait" battle system would be perfect for a one-handed gamer. If you're rocking 8-bit or 16-bit, one of the arcade sticks for each system might make things easier as well (NES/SNES Advantage, that one for the Genesis, etc.).

Any turn-based RPGs will do, as others have pointed out. Also, Pac-Man

99% of all Atari 2600 games work with just a regular single button joystick. Find one you like with a button for your thumb on top of the stick and you will be set. You will just need to mount the joystick somewhere and you should be good to go.

Lethal Enforcers, Duck Hunt, and any other basic light gun game. Dragon's Lair and the other FMV games like it.
Or there's the Dance Dance Revolution games and anything else that uses a floor mat, though you wouldn't be using any hands at all.

Not sure if it was mentioned in any of the other threads, but I used to love playing Waverace 64 with one hand. Most of the turning is based on the subtle up/down tilt of the analog stick, so there's no need to break, and Z (index finger) can be mapped to accelerate. I used to play this game with one hand all the time, and I got to the point where I could easily best the PC, even on the hardest difficulty setting.

In particular, the WiiWare versions of the first three games can be played with one hand easily.
Might want to give Final Fantasy 3 a shot. I leveled one-handed.
