Hey All,

After some talking with friends I went out and bought Professor Layton and the Curious Village yesterday. I dont even own a DS but my Nephew let me borrow his for a bit.

I am usually not the one to just buy any game but I'm happy I did and might even buy a DS now so I can get the Diabolical Box as well.

With that said have you ever bought a game for a system/handheld you didn't own? Some ground rules, I would say no rentals or games bought for a system someone else in your house owns.

It will be interesting to hear who else has and what game did you buy and for what system.

Only if I intend to buy the system too in the immediate future.

I've got PSP games in preparation to purchase a PSP for my fiancee, Besides that, I owned TurboGrafx, Xbox, and Genesis games all before I owned the systems just because I wanted the games and it would give me a reason to purchase the systems.

I bought WarTech: Senko no Ronde for Xbox 360 a year and a half before I owned one. I also bought Guilty Gear X2 #Reload a long time ago for XBOX and never ended up getting one. =o

I'm always buying games in advance, although only the ones I find in bargain bins and such because, well, why don't I buy it now for $9.99 new instead of paying $15 or so + shipping later for an used copy? Obviously, some would be priced for less than $10 used in the future but how would I know?

Currently, I own 16 Wii games, 21 NDS games, 2 PSP games, 6 Xbox 360 games and 4 PS3 games.

I've got Myst for Macintosh, as well as Alex Kidd in Miracle World and Teddy Boy for Sega Master System right now. I may end up getting a Master System next weekend though.

Mad that I passed on the 3 European Sonic games for SMS though. Someone else snatched them up.

I'll buy some Wii games like Tales of Symphonia and House of the Dead 2 and 3 if they drop to 19.99.

Even though I don't own a Wii and the system is a pos. I would have listed the couple first party games I wanted like Metroid the Other M, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Wii Sports Resort, but everyone on this forum knows they'll probably never drop below full retail. Nintendo. What a pos.

I've got MGS2: Substance for the Xbox, MGS for the Gameboy Color, and MGS: The Twin Snakes for the Game Cube, and I don't have the systems. They're strictly collector's pieces for me, cuz I'm a HUGE Metal Gear fan.

Bought Me & My Katamari when it came out, got a PSP about 2 weeks later.

Got Perfect Dark Zero LE for 360 when it came out (for Xmas), got a 360 the following Xmas.

Yeah, I have done that, on one. One was where I bought some Sega CD games at a thrift store (I got five CIB for I think $8 total) and it made me decide to get a Sega CD.

Yup.

Bought MGS 4 LE when it came out, no PS3 till this last Xmas.

I did the same thing, except the PS3 came only a week after the game. Really glad I found the LE.

I was so excited when I saw Sonic Mega Collection for Gamecube in Nintendo Power that I told my grandma to get that for me for Christmas because I planned on buying the system with my own money. I couldn't wait long to buy the Gamecube after I opened up the game and looked through the instruction manual though. I got the Super Smash Bros. Melee bundle, which I later sold to buy the Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition bundle because it was pretty much one of the only ways to get the game at the time. I think I ended up selling it at Game Crazy without the controller so I would have a third controller.

I also got Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, thinking I could play it in less colors on Super Game Boy or in black and white on regular Game Boy. I was wrong. So I looked through the manual and by the time I had the game, Game Boy Advance was out so I just skipped the Color and went for the Advance.

This doesn't really count but my stepdad had given me an Atari 2600 Jr. lot he had in his closet. In the box of games there was also Donkey Kong for Colecovision.

I have a few PS2 games.

I did this with the PS2 and PSP, but I bought the systems a few months later. I plan on doing it again for the PS3. I really want to buy and experience Valkyria Chronicles, Disgaea 3, Demon's Souls, Folklore, and maybe Cross Edge. I just can't find space for another system right now, and as much as I want a new $300 PS3 slim, it's going to be a few years wait.

I'm also collecting most of the import 360 shmups, but still don't have an import 360. Still, it's definitely better to buy these games now, brand new, than wait on them in the used market, especially the Cave titles. They always retain or increase their value after a couple of years being out of print.

Yup I own games before I even have the console. I have Wii games and don't have the system yet. I collected 80+ Xbox games and don't have a system until I picked it up last year.

This is why I get the game first because it will be hard to track down later on. I regret for not buying Saturn games when it was on clearance. Now tracking some of the RPG games cost a fortune.

I bought Halo 3 last year when the limited edition was on sale at Sears for $25. I didn't get my 360 until February of this year. I also have Psp, Ds, PS3 and Pc-Engine games despite not having the required systems to play them on.

To be honest, I've always collected this way. I had almost 30 PS2 games before I even got my PS2. Why would I pass up getting brand new factory sealed games for $1-$10 just because I don't have the system yet? Especially when those games will be long out of print and most likely much more money to buy if you wait until you finally buy the system to play them on.

I once picked up a couple of Wii games when I was planning on getting one. Afer I changed my mind about the system, I traded the games in and got more credit than I actually paid for them.
I hoarded dozens of GC games before getting my second gamecube, but that was different, because I knew I'd be getting the system for sure.

I have the Halo 3 Legendary edition for the xbox 360.. but I really have no intention of ever buying a craptastic 360. I mainly just wanted that cool helm plus it was so cheap. Had to throw the box away though.

I'll do it if the game is either rare or dirt cheap. I've had a ps3 ps2 memory card adapter for 2 years now and I don't have a ps3. I got it for $4.

I bought Tetris for the CD-i because it was the only CD-i game I have seen in the wild. Still plan on buying a system one of these days......

Yeah, several times:

Bought Pokemon Pearl despite not owning a DS, I borrowed my sisters to play (And I was of course very embarrassed by the fact my 10yr old sister had a DS before me)

Also, in my quest to buy one of every sonic game I've bought:
Knuckles Chaotix
Sonic CD
Sonic Pocket Adventure
and multiple gamegear games even though I didn't own any of those consoles. Though I now own a GameGear. Will also be buying Sonic Rivals 1 & 2 in the future... which I will borrow my sisters PSP to play!

I do this all the time too but mainly for retro gaming (I tend to not wait on the new stuff... I'm a sheep)

Generally the system will appear for a reasonable price soon after I buy a game for it. Don't know how but that usually works for me.

Although I've also been known to buy a system and then wait months before finding a game for it that is cheap enough to buy.

I bought Keio Flying Squadren even though I didn't and still don't have a Sega CD. I bought it for $5 from my little brother years ago, he bought it for about $1.75 on clearance from the navy exchange back in the mid 90's (he didn't have a sega cd either). Neither of us had any idea it was rare at the time.
I didn't actually buy it, but I won X-Men 2 Clone Wars back when it came out from a Fox Kids drawing. I didn't have a Genesis at the time, and I only entered because I figured I wouldn't win! My cousin had a genesis though, so I did get to play it before buying my own genesis about a year later.

I forgot to mention that I also have a few cd-i games, although I don't think I'll ever find one of those systems in the wild.

I bought a CIB Mario Bros. for Atari 5200 because it was cheap. Then, more recently, I bought a box of 19 games for $15... It had games for Genesis and Atari 5200. I am yet to get a 5200, but I hope to soon.

On another note I bought a pair of Atari 7800 controllers before I was better educated on gaming, thinking they were for a 5200. My thoughts on that were that I could get a controllerless 5200 cheap on ebay.

I also bought KISS Psycho Circus well before having a Dreamcast.

I'm pretty sure the only game I ever did this for was Conker's Bad Fur Day on the N64. A friend of mine let me "borrow" his N4 for over a year, and I figured "why not?"
I eventually got myself a system a couple years later for $20, and as for my Conker? I let a friend "borrow" it oh, four years ago for his Shining Force 3. Hopefully someday I'll see it again as I have bought a copy of SF3 for myself too. :p

I bought Battle Arena Toshinden for the PS1 months before I ever bought the system. This was back when the PS was still new so it's been awhile.

I can't think of anything recently that I've bought though.
