Outside of presents I can't think of too many times I've gotten free games, and I frankly think ANY free game is cause for celebration, "amazing" or not.

Recently I've had two separate FeePay sellers give me free games. One sent me Cosmic Fantasy 4-1, another sent me the PS1 Cowboy Bebop. I sadly owned both games already, but I still felt that was pretty damn sweet to get those freebies. I've also partaken of a few games from the freebie forum on gtz, but since I paid for shipping, I can't totally say they were "free."

Friends:
Old PS1
PSOne w/ LCD (broken though)
Atari 5200, like new
SNES - Monopoly, Street Fighter, Stunt Race FX
N64 - Castlevania, Star Wars Episode I Racer, Blast Corps, Banjo Kazooie
Sega CD (all my SCD games thus far, check out my room of doom for a pic)
Genesis/PS1 - a TON of games, including Tomba. Not necessarily "Free" but i got a Genesis, 18 Genny games, and about 30-40 PS1 games/demo discs for two dollars. Pretty good deal, considering Sonic 3 alone is worth more than that (and it has quite a bit of sentimental value to me for it's soundtrack)
Genesis - got a Genny and a bunch of games from a friend of my fathers
NES - Got an NES for free. Was in the closet at my dad's first job since we moved up to New England.
NES/Genny - Got a bunch of games from my uncle, as well as an NES and Sega Laseractive PAC. Some titles include Punchout, Ghosts n Goblins, and Tengen Ms Pac Man.

Years ago, my cousin was getting rid of his NES stuff. I picked up Metroid, Gyromite, Gyruss, Mike Tyson's Punch Out, and a few other classics.

Only ones I can really recall getting for "free" are Mega Man Zero, F-Zero GP Legend, Forza 2 and Fusion Frenzy 2.

I've been relatively freebie-deprived.
(I also still have spares of the latter two.)

when I was in Middle School (man, lemme think, maybe 6 or 7 years ago), a friend of mine, one of the biggest so-called gangsters in school actually, gave me his copy of Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts for SNES. A great, but unbelievably difficult game. For me at least.

And recently a friend of mine gave me some old PS1 games he had lying around that he got tired of, cause he knows I collect games. Centipede, Grand Tourismo 2, Frogger 2, and Namco Museum Vol. 3. Come to think of it, I still need to test those.

Got a Sega CDX for free a couple years ago. It's pretty beat up cosmetically, and only reads Mega CD games half the time, but that doesn't change the fact I got a free CDX. Also got my second Nomad free about a year and half ago.

My friend gave me his N64 for free. He was about to give me Golden Eye & Zelda 64 with it, but can't find it. Oh well. I manage to track it down afterward.

Once I drove to the ghetto in providence to buy an awesome lot of genesis and mega drive stuff. When the guy brought the lot out, there was a copy of Dragon Warrior 4 for NES with both maps and manual that the guy threw in for free. It was the only nintendo piece in the lot.

A buddy gave me complete, truly mint copies of Super Castlevania IV & Zelda LTTP for free with a group of other stuff. (Without prompting, I gave him my Zelda LTTP cart. He's a fan and should have it.) He also gave me his copy of God of War to keep when he was done with it. Good friend.

There hasn't been all too much, just a few things.

Someone gave me a loose copy of Sonic 2 for the Genesis at a yard sale, it was nearly over and they said I could just have it.

Someone else I met at a thrift store gave me some Game Gear stuff, he bought it all just for the carrying case but couldn't fit in what he wanted to use it for so he offered to give it all to me.

Some stuff from the free table at swap meets, mostly Genesis sports games and some PC games.

I can't really remember too much else that weren't really gifts from friends or thrown in with other stuff I was buying. A co-worker was into older games too and offered to give me a copy of Bubble Bobble Part 2 for the NES(I even told him it was rare and offered to pay him for it), but it was apparently in storage with a bunch of other gaming stuff and I went to work somewhere else before he could get it.

From an old co-worker who was moving to California about 7 years ago. Saw him about 6 years ago very briefly and reminded him I still had them. He said he was moving again and I could keep it all for $100 and he would send me his new address and contact info to send. Never heard from him again. Dave if your out there, I have $100 with interest for ya...

For Free I've Gotten:

Marvel Vs. Capcom (DC) - Really I borrowed this one, and forgot to return it, and now the person I borrowed it from went off to college and they don't really play video games anymore so I'm not really sure what to do with it.

Sega Nomad - Same person who I borrowed the MvC from, he said it sucked so he gave it to me.

A bunch of Sega Genesis games - The brother of said person (who has also gone off to college) gave me a bunch of Sega Genesis games since he doesn't play his anymore, and the next time I go to his house I'm able to pick up the rest of them along with a Model II Genesis that he has.

Crazy Taxi (GCN) - Got it from a friend who ended up with two copies, so he gave his extra one to me.

Super Smash Bros. Melee - Friend who gave me Crazy Taxi hated this game so much he was ready to break it, so I asked if I could have it, and he gave it to me.

Rayman 2 (N64) - Again, same friend. Not sure why he gave this to me, might've had a double of it.

Sold Crazy Taxi and Melee, but the other stuff I still have.

A few years ago my aunt gave me a complete, boxed NES Power Set in excellent condition. It looked like some kid had played with it for a month or two when it first came out and then put it up for 15 years. It also had a few games in it, the only one I remember for sure was Mega Man 3.

I forgot, my Sega CD was given to me by the same frined that gave me Super Mario RPG. He thought the system was broken, but when I tried it it worked fine and I'm still using it 6 years later.

Jumping Flash 2 (PSX) - I had never heard of it before a friend gave it to me. I found myself replaying it almost monthly afterward. One of my all time favorite games, too.

I don't really think I've received or found any free games.

I did own Alone in the Dark for PS2 sealed. Played the PS3 demo, then gave the PS2 copy to a friend of mine for free. The PS2 game could have been awesome. One persons trash is another persons treasure(because that PS3 demo was a pos.)

Oh! Forgot this one -- a friend gave me his Virtual Boy a few years back with three games (Teleroboxer, Mario's Tennis, the Wario one). I have since sold it since I wasn't collecting at the time and only played with it a few times.

Back in the day, my dad owned a small dumpster company. Naturally, I would do some dumpster diving from time to time, and, as i was about to leave one day from an unfruitful raid , a few read letters in a dunpster met my eyes. I asked myself, Could it be!?! I threw some crap out of the way and found to my surprise, a boxed complete Mario Cart edition Super NES, I carefully opened the bounty, I slid out the styrofoam, and......nothing was there. I did get myself a nice SNES box with the manuel and posters though!

My roommate just moved out a while back and left all of his SNES and N64 games here as well as some other stuff. I contacted him about it and he said he wasn't planning on coming back and picking anything up.

As far as "amazing" goes...in the lot is F-Zero, Super Metroid, Turtles in Time, Mega Man X and maybe a couple of other noteworthy ones.

I had wanted a Sega Saturn and had kept an eye out for almost a year in my local shops and nothing ever came up (at least for a reasonable price). I finally found one at a store out of town and broke down and spent $35-$40 on one.

A short time later I went on a morning run and a sega saturn was sitting on the side of the road ahead of garbage day. I picked it up along with the power cord and rise of the robots 2 inside (no wonder they were throwing it away). It worked great!

About two weeks ago my friend gave me all his old SNES games that were still laying around:

Killer Instinct
Madden '94
NBA Jam T.E.
Paperboy 2
Street Fighter II

All complete in box. KI was in great condition the rest were crummy, but I had replacement boxes for them, Ooooh yeah.

The only thing I got for free was a PS2, Gamecube and Game Gear from a friend. He said none of them worked. The PS2 just needed a good cleaning, the Gamecube worked fine and the Game Gear has a bad picture, It looks like a pen exploded inside of it and the ink is on the screen.

Some I remember right now are:

- A Sega Genesis (Model 2) with Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and a few other games
Given to me by my grandmother, who originally bought it so my cousins and I would have something to do when we came to visit, but gave it to me 2 years later because I was the only one still playing with it by that point. Love me some Sonic 3 & Knuckles...

- Another Sega Genesis (Also a Model 2) with assorted sports games and a nice drawer for storing games and instruction books in
Given to me by the wife of a friend of my dad's; who hasn't played with it in years and didn't have it hooked up anymore.

- Final Fantasy VII (PSX. Black label, mising instructions, in decent shape), Final Fantasy VIII (PSX. Greatest Hits, complete & mint), and Final Fantasy IX (PSX. Greatest Hits, complete & mint)
Given to be by a friend of mine at the time, who worked at Gamestop. Since they could no longer sell original PlayStation games, someone just gave these to the store because he didn't want them anymore and knew this friend loved Final Fantasy. Seeing as he already had these games and didn't feel like selling them on eBay (This was back when a black label FF7 would easily fetch upward of $100, thanks to the release of Advent Children), he gave them to me because I had wanted a black lavel FF7 and didn't have either FF8 or FF9 yet. Wound up selling FF9 (I didn't care much for it), but I still have the same copies of 7 and 8 to this day.

- A box full of loose Super NES games
From my brother-in-law, who had lost his old Super NES during a move, so he gave me his entire collection. Noteworthy titles include Final Fantasy III, Super Mario Kart, and Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest.

Bought a Sega CD and in the disc tray was Shining Force CD.

At the time I had no idea what it was about. It's the game that got me into RPGs (probably because it wasn't a hardcore RPG). Prior to that, I couldn't stand them.

My friend's parents' had 2 Atari 2600s and probably about 40 games or so. My friend would always get annoyed with me because I would try to look through them and see what games were there. (Not sure why this bothered him, but it did)

One day his parents told him to take the Atari stuff and throw it in the trash because they didn't want it anymore. He instead mentioned to them that I was always interested in it and they said to give it to me instead. I still have all that stuff.

I was an exchange student in Germany once and my partner's younger brother gave me a copy of Super Mario Land 2 for Gameboy one morning.

An awesome game shop has thrown in a few free things for me a few times.

One time I was at a Funcoland and some kid was trading in his Nintendo 64 with 2 broken controllers. They wouldn't take the controllers, so the mom just left them on the counter and said "I bet you'll sell them." as she walked out. As soon as she left, I asked the guy behind the counter if I could have them. He said yes. I repaired them into 1 working controller and sold it on Ebay for around $20. (I already had 4)

Got a black Gameboy Advance off of a recycling website once. Turned around and sold that on Ebay for around $20 or so. My brother and friend also gave me their original gameboy stuff.

A friend of mine once found an NES and some games (no cords though) in place where people were dumping their damaged things after a flood. She said there was also a SNES, but she left it behind. (I have no idea why, I expressed my displeasure with that action) When I went to replace the 72-pin connector in it, I found a dead worm in the bottom of it. Other than that, the thing worked fine.

I met two awesome Saturn contacts back in the early 00's.

One gave me these complete mint Saturn games for free:

1. Christmas NiGHTS
2. Duke Nukem 3D
3. Dragon Force
4. Shining Force III
5. Iron Storm

plus the analog Saturn pad

Then the other guys gave me these CIB mint Saturn imports for free:

1. Dead or Alive
2. Space Harrier
3. Out Run
4. BATTLE GAREGGA (!!!!!!!! $70+ value)

and quite a bit more I can't quite remember. The Battle Garegga one was mind blowing though. Back in 2004-ish, it was hitting $100 even...

I got a CIB NES Action Set for free a few months ago. It loos and plays like it was never taken out of the box. My dad gave it to me. I wanted to offer him something for it but he wouldn't take anything since he got it from a thrift store for $3.

I called my friend up a few years back to ask if he still had his Game Gear. He did, so I offered him some cash for it. He wouldn't take cash, and just rode by and handed me the stuff. Here's what was in it:

Blue Game Gear sports edition
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic Chaos
Battleship
World Series Baseball
AC Adapter
Carrying case

I kept everything except Battleship and World Series Baseball.

I'm going to go out on a limb here. I'm not going to include a game I got for free as a gift or anything like that. What I am going to say is the best free game I have played is called "Drip" that came out for the Amiga 500 computer many years ago. When I say free I mean Public Domain! Drip was a pac-man clone that I thoroughly enjoyed. So hats off to those who work very hard to release games that are free for everyone to play!

I set up at one flea market and one guy had a copy of that crappy matrix game for PC that came out when the sequels were made. Brand new, never opened. He just walked over and said "here, you'll have better luck selling it than me probably" and just gave it to me. Promptly set up at a different flea the next day and sold it for 12 bucks. Go figure.

A friend gave me a free Turbografx-16 with the booster plus, a Turbo Express, and about 10 controllers, a tap, and about 20 games a couple of years ago. He also tossed in a free PS2 phat and a few PS2 games. That was a good score.
