Would anyone else be interested in setting up a Let's All Play?

WHAT ARE THE RULES?

Rules

1. It is acceptable to use an emulator (assuming that you own the cart, we don't want to worry about copyright issues).

2. If you do use an emulator, you are not allowed to save/load states. You can use password/continues that are normally available in the game though. If playing an actual console and cartridge, you can continue as much as the game allows. You don't need to play through all in one continue.

3. You must describe in your write-up what method you used to play the game (which console, which emulator, etc..)

4. You cannot use a Game Genie or similar cheating device (e.g. Action Replay, etc...)

5. You may use cheat codes that are normally available in the game IF the rules for that particular mission allow for them. If the rules say that you are not allowed to use the codes, or is silent on the issue, then you may not use codes. (For instance, if the mission rules say that you can use the 30 man code in Contra, then you may do so. If the rules say that you cannot use codes, or doesn't say anything on the topic, then you may not)

6. If a game is available for a number of different systems (because of ports) then you may play any port of the game IF it is practically identical to the original port (you'll have to use some discretion here). I suggest that those who create the mission rules should address this issue. If you want to limit people to a particular version, say so. However, keep in mind that allowing ports will increase the available number of players.

7. If applicable, mission rules should state at which difficulty the game should be played. If nothing is stated in the game rules, it will be played at the default difficulty. If there is no default difficulty, unless specified the difficulty will be medium/normal.

8. The person making the mission rules for a game may add, remove or alter any of the above rules for their game.

These rules are based on the honesty of other DPers, so please be honest :)

Something that doesn't take ages to complete, please. Maniac Mansion and Shadowgate are good games... but they're frustrating to some of us.

I'd be in.

As long as I have the game so I can play it, it should be fun to do. As long as work doesn't get in the way for me, it seems I haven't had much free time to play games lately(I've been meaning to play some games months ago but still haven't got around to them).

Even without goals it could work, like if we're supposed to play a certain game by a certain date we can all talk about how we did with them and how far we got.

I actually really like adventure games, but I don't have the NES versions of Maniac Mansion or Shadowgate. I'm hoping to find them at some point. It might work better to use actual freeware releases of games(not necessarily abandonware) as anyone can get them.

I could be interested in this too, yeah. Something like that annual "everyone play Earthbound" deal I keep meaning to try perhaps.

That sounds like a decent idea, although Bald Bull isn't that far in. Mr. Sandman would be a cooler goal.

Maybe we should do a "everyone let's play" on a game that's freely avaliable online. Not everybody here has a copy of Earthbound and those that would want to play might have to use teh romz.

For instance, Cave Story is an excellent game that's completely free. I'm sure that there are other games like that such as La-Mulana, I Wanna Be The Guy*, and Bonesaw.

*Maybe not the best idea for a let's play. It has driven people insane.

Okay, since this is our first one, let's do a simple game and goal. This challenge is based on this thread (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=134128). Everyone has at least one version of SMB, also the challenge shouldn't take too long, so even those of us with significant work constraints can join in. I know that I said I wanted stuff that was less mainstream and didn't want Mario or Sonic, but I guess I'm just a big fat liar :D

MISSION 1: SUPER MARIO BROS.

Original system: NES
Available for play on: NES cartridge, GBA Classics Series, Gamecube - Animal Crossing unlockable game, Wii Virtual console, Gameboy Color - Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, Super Nintendo: Super Mario All Stars, also countless pirate carts (let me know if I've missed any)
Your mission: Beat the game without warping
Due date: Saturday, September 26, 2009 @ 11:59 PM (Eastern time)

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to beat all of Super Mario Bros without warping. You've got to play every level. I've never beaten all 32 levels on the NES version, only the GBC version. It's a little easier on the GBC version because you can save your progress. NOTE: You do not need to beat the extra levels, only the initial playthrough.

Feel free to either record a video or snap a few pics of your playthrough. If you just want to use text, that's cool too. Post about what troubles you had, things that you may have forgotten about, those damn castles with the mazes (remember, you only get the audio clue on the SNES version, the NES version doesn't have them).

TIP: To continue, hold A at the game over screen. When you get back to the menu, keep holding A and press start on the 1 Player or 2 Player menu. You'll start again at the beginning of the world you were in.

*ARE YOU MAN ENOUGH TO TAKE ON THE KOOPA KINGDOM?*

Whoever beats the entire game and posts about it the quickest gets to pick next week's Mission (except it won't be me, no one can pick two missions in a row). This can't be from a previous playthrough, you've got to do it fresh. Also, we're sticking to the honour system, so be honest.

*MISSION #1 ACCOMPLISHED*

Well, I'm done. This mission was WAY too easy, but it was a decent starter mission just to get things going.

Here are my thoughts on the game:
My wife and I played the game together 2 player. I was Mario, she was Luigi. I died a bunch of times, in 1-2 and 4-3. I got game over a few times and had to continue. I had to continue on worlds 5 and 8. My wife died repeatedly. She made it as far as 1-3 then would get game over. When I continued, she would be bumped up to the continued world with me. It wasn't really fair, she couldn't make it past 1-3 but had to play worlds 5-1, 6-1 and 8-1.
Damn, some of the swimming levels were hard. The fish and octopusses (octopi?) were working together to corner me.
I kept having a real hard time keeping my fire flower through the castle levels. I kept getting hit and had to fight bowser as little Mario. I think I only ended up killing him with fireballs two times out of the eight worlds.
I had to fight through world 8-4 about 10 times. I always ended up as small Mario and the hammer brother kept killing me (not with hammers, he would land on me as I tried to run under him).
I played the game on my NES toploader using my Powerpak and my NES Advantage. I took these pictures with my DSi, sorry for the crappy quality - my other cameras were in the car. I'm happy that I now can say that I beat all of SMB.

edit: FYI, whoever posts their win next gets to pick the next mission. It won't be effective until this one closes (next Saturday at midnight), so don't go jumping the gun people :)

So can we use the save feature in Super Mario All-Stars?

So can we use the save feature in Super Mario All-Stars?
Sure, if I had wanted to limit it to the NES version, I would have excluded the SNES version from the mission notes. Go nuts and (provided the battery still works) save in the SNES version. In your write-up, just be sure to explain that you were using the SNES version. It might be cool to get a different POV.

How about I stream it so anyone who wants to watch can? :D Edit: Stream notice reply 8 posts down

This could be fun to ustream, especially on games where people might need help and others can help, I won't need help with this game though, I gots this one covered, so come watch take a snapshot or two or record some, either way, I will soon be added to your list Mr. c0ldb33r. :p

Btw, i'm using emu to play, but i'm not using load state and will not even be using A+Start. If I make it fine, if I don't fine, but I don't think any save state should be aloud. If any of this is a problem i'll drop out now, I played these games as a kid and i'm truely in it for the experience and fun and so far I don't agree with the rules, save stating ain't cool imo even on snes. Also if I need to whip out my nes and play I will, thought it would just be fun to stream it. Sorry but the rules here seem kinda half ass.

Edit: Anyone who was watching my stream earlier I apoligize, I was having technical issues which are now all ironed out, it also looks and sounds a WHOLE lot better.

Sorry but the rules here seem kinda half ass.
Yeah, that's kind of on-purpose. I'm trying to keep it more about playing the game and trying to keep the technicalities to a minimum. BUT you're right, maybe we should set some rules. I've edited the initial post to include some rules. If any more rules need to be added, someone let me know and I'll add them.

Well, got to level 7-4 with 2 lives 517,250 points and ran out of time once and feel in the lava the other time. Been a long time since i've played straight through, but wow, what fun.

I'll give it another shot maybe tonight or before the 26th. Good stuff.

I don't think I've ever played SMB without warping. It should be a challenge since I have no idea what 1-3 looks like as a level.

I'm in.

vivaeljason

Okay...as of right now, my best performance is 3-4, which goes to show how little I've played the game without warping.

The fact that I can't even get to level 4 without using a warp pipe saddens me greatly.

I will definitely have another go ASAP.

Sounds like fun. It's been a while since I played without warping but I should be able to do it. I used to know the game forwards and bakwards since it was all I had growing up but it's been a looong time since I tried. There are a few levels that I seem to recall that may be a bit difficult though.

I played on a official NES toploader; SMB/Duck Hunt; and a dog bone controller.

- I got through the entire game without losing a single turn! (had 8 lives at the end)
- The only Bowser I didn't kill with fireballs was 6-4, thanks to a firebar hitting me.

End of 4-4:

Alright, I did it.

Using a retro duo, a third party snes controller, and super mario allstars. Started off as two player with the girlfriend but she gave up somewhere and I took over for both. Mario never quite finished due to running out of lives on 8-3 too many times, but Luigi made it to the Princess. I really dislike world 5 and 7, if I am remembering my numbers right.

Did you know that in Super Mario Allstars, every castle has an increasing number of toads in it?

And an off-topic aside -

These rules are based on the honesty of other DPers, so please be honest :)

That reminded me of:

Count Rugen: [admiring his torture contraption] Beautiful isn't it? It took me half a lifetime to invent it. I'm sure you've discovered my deep and abiding interest in pain. Presently I'm writing the definitive work on the subject, so I want you to be totally honest with me on how the machine makes you feel. This being our first try, I'll use the lowest setting.

[Count Rugen activates the water powered torture machine. Wesley writhes in great pain]

Count Rugen: [calmly] As you know, the concept of the suction pump is centuries old. Really that's all this is except that instead of sucking water, I'm sucking life. I've just sucked one year of your life away. I might one day go as high as five, but I really don't know what that would do to you. So, let's just start with what we have. What did this do to you? Tell me. And remember, this is for posterity so be honest....

I played it last night on my Wii. I made it to 3-4 on my second try. I have not tried to play straight through in years. It was like playing a new game to me because I dont remember the levels and what to do all that well. I have always used the warp zones. I will try to give it another shot tonight.

Hats off to Coldbeer, I really like this idea. I haven't played through Super Mario Bros. in a long time, I knew it was going to be a challenge. Tried twice yesterday, the first time I lost my last man on 8-4 (I only play on one credit) and was so pissed I quit. Tried a second time, died twice in a row on 6-4 and I could see where this was going, so I gave up. I just wasn't up to it that time.

But this morning got up, ate my bowl of multi-grain Cheerios and two slices of cinnamon raisin toast, fired up the NES and got to work- concentrating more on collecting coins for 1-ups than points or time or anything. I beefed at 3-3, 5-3, 7-3, and 8-4. Upon dying at 8-4 by the mighty hammer of the Koopa King, I had something like 5 lives, and I was really tense and just knew I was going to sit there and blow every one of them on this level. So I paused the game and took a 20 minute break. Once I felt nice and mellow, I sat down and commenced to breeze right through 8-4, (Jumping on that last hammer brother even) and slid right under Bowser as he jumped to toss some hammers around. Dropped him in the lava, saved Princess Toadstool. It's a great way to start my day! :bigmac:

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa56/XYXZYZ/SMBend.jpg

683,100 - one credit. (duh)
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa56/XYXZYZ/683100.jpg

The best I've ever done on SMB is 850,000 and I was really looking to grab every point I could get in one game. I didn't see how all these people in Nintendo Power were getting 999,950 until I realized they were doing that damn 1-up trick in 3-1 and just playing through the game while dying alot. I can NEVER do that stupid trick.

kupomogli
09-22-2009, 02:23 PM
Finished the game last night. I can see why everyone always skips worlds all the time. Super Mario Bros. is pretty boring to play through. Previously I think I've only played through every stage without warping one time(though could be a couple times.)

I never really liked Super Mario Brothers, so I never really played it more than for a few minutes.

Thanks to this thread I pulled my NES out earlier this evening and gave this a whirl. The NES did nothing but blink white when powered up. Hmm, probably a bum cart connector. Well, there's more where that came from.

So, I pulled out my second NES. This one didn't blink white! It blinked green instead. :(

Fortunately I had one more NES, and I KNOW that I replaced the 72-pin connector on one of the three units a few years ago.

I hooked up the third NES and it blinked green also. Bummer. Eventually I managed to get one of my Super Mario Brothers carts working in one of the NESes by wiggling it slightly, powering on, powering off and wiggling again, etc... until I got the game to work.

Whew. NOW, on to the game!

I played three times. First game, I made it to World 1-3.
Second game - 1-4, and I died by pressing the wrong button while approaching the fire-breathing boss at the end of the level.(I'm assuming it is the end of the level.)

Third game, died again while appoaching the fire-breathing dragon at the end of 1-4.
I think my score was approximately 46,000.

So, if I understand correctly, 1-4 is the 4th level, and there are 32 in total? Getting through all of them sounds tedious.

Still, I'll try again later.

PS: Also - Infinite 1UP? Sounds intriguing.

vivaeljason
09-22-2009, 11:43 PM
Okay...just now got to level 5-4 and managed to get nailed by one of Bowser's flames. Given the one day progress, I'm pretty sure I'll have it beaten by Thursday. Hopefully.

Can anyone tell me how many points are needed for a continue? Is it 500,000?

EDIT: Oh, and I'm convinced the infinite 1-up trick has always been an inside joke because it's basically impossible.

DDCecil
09-23-2009, 12:16 AM
You might be thinking of Super Mario Land, where a continue is rewarded after 100,000 points.

In SMB, just hold down B and press start at the game over screen to continue on the last world you were on (ie if you died on 3-4, you'll start on 3-1).

Glad I'm not the only one who can never time the 1-up trick.

Oh yeah, I'm still thinking of a good challenge.

Seriously? That's how to continue?!? I don't have to restart all the way at 1-1?!?! Hell, this'll be easy --although annoying-- the next time I pick up and play.

EDIT: Oh, and I'm convinced the infinite 1-up trick has always been an inside joke because it's basically impossible.

I've only managed to do it once or twice. Usually I would end up dying instead. I did watch a friend of mine who could do it every time though. You can do the same trick in SMB3 as well off pretty much any enemy. I don't remember the exact rules but if you bounce off so many enemies without touching the ground you get an extra life for each additional time.

I do remember it being easier to pull off in SMB3, in that I actually succeeded in getting a ton of 1ups at a time at least once in that game.

This sounds like a fun little endeavour. Now I've beaten all 32 levels at least a few times before, most recently in January last year (I remember because I was trying to finish a different game each day, and that was among the first ones).

So, I should be able to find some time this week (probably Friday morning) to tackle it again.

Edit: and I've never been able to do the unlimited 1-up trick, and I hear that if you surpass 100 lives, the game crashes and it's game over. However, I tried a game genie cheat that should have gotten me over 100 lives, and the game never crashed.

That is true, it does crash. I have done it myself. But it was fixed in other versions. Mario Deluxe on the Gameboy fixed it (i used to own it). If i remember right the made a max number you could not go over. And i'm pretty sure it was fixed on All Stars as well.

I can do the 1up trick almost every time. I was gonna try the challenge but i cannot get myself away from the game i'm playing. I just bought Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. I am not a big fan of RPG's, but i thought i'd give this one a try. Now i'm hooked and i can't get away. Playing it all day and all night. It was even in my dream last night. *_*

Here's a video of a guy doing the 1-up trick. It just never works that way for me, the shell always ricochets off the block and slides down the stairs. I can do it on an emulator it I try over and over with save states, but I can't pull it off the first time on an NES.

And to continue in Super Mario Bros., when the title screen comes back up hold down A and press start. You'll be on stage *-1. (If you died in 5-4, you'll continue at stage 5-1)

It's also possible to jump over the flag pole in 3-3. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDVoqLK9g4k&feature=related)

Well, made it to level 8-4 with 2 lives and man, I don't remember all them hammer bros. lol, shows how long it has been.

I've only had so much time and when you get Ustream viewers you kinda start feeling obligated to do speed runs, as I know they are much more fun to watch. Anyway I made it to 8-4 playing in speed run, now that I have it down i'm gonna take my time tomorrow and knock it out.

This has been really fun, yet more challenging than I remembered.

This is kind of strange. I just beat SMB a couple of days ago without warping, but I was entirely unaware that this challenge was going on until just now. I was trying to beat The Lost Levels on the Mario All-Stars cart with my wife--each of us taking one life or one level, whichever came first--but the challenge proved too tough for both of us and I ended up compromising by playing through SMB without warping instead. I was trying to do the other one without warping, too, but that was only because every time I've ever tried to warp in that game I've just gotten one of those annoying reverse warps and quit playing. I guess I completed the challenge...?

I've actually developed a habit of playing SMB straight through when I'm stressed out, because it helps me take my mind off of things. I used to have a really awesome job (it was actually a horrible job with one really awesome part) where I was allowed to have a NES hooked up, so I could keep myself entertained when there weren't any customers around. One day I was working on a holiday, and everyone thought we were closed so I had maybe 10 customers all day. The only game I had thought to bring to work with me was SMB, so I decided to play it straight through as many times as I possibly could before the day ended. I can't remember the exact count now, but I know the total for the day was somewhere around ten times in a row. I'll always remember the day I got paid to play SMB all day as one of the best days of my working life. I also remember the day I brought Dr. Mario with me, because it was the first and only time in my life I reached the level cap on hard. I thought it could never be done, and I certainly can't do it now, but on that day I was a Dr. Mario machine. Then there was the day my co-worker beat Battletoads right in front of me. He didn't just brag about how he could beat it. He beat it on the first try. It blew my mind. I miss my old job...

Done and done about 10 minutes ago.

Notes:
- Started off with the ultimate suckiosity... that's right, I mistimed my jump, and got offed by the first goomba in 1-1, I blame the glare of the sun
- After that, I decided that I probably needed to be a coin/1-up slut
- 1-4 - died from the fireballs while trying to get the mushroom
- 2-3 - died twice, first by jumping with too much momentum, and then going for the mushroom, the blooper came from out of nowhere
- I tried for the multiple 1-ups with the koopa in 3-1 (remember that note about being the 1-up slut). Failed, but didn't lose a man
- 3-2 - died while trying to get the 1-up by killing enemies with the koopa shell. I don't react to the bounce back very well.
- Settled down really well once the sun had climbed past the window, and was racking up the lives with the coins
- 7-1 - died via hammer bro
- Started 8-1 with 9 lives (which is more than I ever have with warping)
- 8-1 - died twice in the same spot - the flying koopa right before you run over the gaps to get the starman
- Recovered those 2 lives via coins and the 1-up in 8-2
- 8-3 - died via one of the hammer bros towards the end
- Started 8-4 with 8 lives, managed to keep fire Mario all the way through, and beat Koopa with fireballs.
- Final score 718550

Got to 6-4 on my first try, but was making too many dumb mistakes. Lost a life on 1-3 and 1-4 even. Was playing on the Virtual Console using the Wiimote.

For my "Let's Play" challenge:

Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos (NES cart/SNES - Trilogy/Unlockable in Xbox NG (SNES version?)/Wii VC/NES Emulator):

Mission 2: Make it through Stages 1-1 through 3-3, using only your sword!

During the levels, you must avoid hitting any of the item orbs.

Since you start each level with a shuriken and 10 Ninja Art points (Which means you can throw the shuriken 2 times), try and avoid pressing up+B which throws them.

You may get hit/die/continue as much as you like. c0ldb33r's rules also apply for this challenge. Challnge ends next Saturday, October 3rd.

Good luck!

*edit*

Alright. Posted below so no one posted while I was uploading to photobucket and posting this. But anyways. Finished.

I died once on stage 3-3. Actually screwed up at the very beginning of stage 3-3 and was getting raped by the knife guy and was pretty much like screw it. Jumped and took damage from the one scythe throwing guy and then jumped to the ladder with a single hp left. Died on the next screen. After that made it to the boss and killed him without taking any damage. I had to reset twice though, the first time was due to me hitting every item on the first stage, the second time was because I attached to the wall and attacked right afterwards on accident(shot a shuriken.)

If anyone is interested in an easy way to not attack the orbs. Duck and attack ones that seem low to the ground. Even though they seem like you'll hit them, you won't. This way you won't have to worry about hitting an orb and also not having to worry about an enemy hitting you.

Also. Tips on beating the 2-3 and 3-3 boss. On the 2-2 boss, wait at the bottom right against the bottom of the wall until he throws the spiders. Don't worry about getting hit, you won't. The first spider will go over your head, the second will land next to him and then crawl off and then up the wall(towards you.) All you have to do is crawl up and then once you get to the top, wait for him to jump down and then jump down and start attacking him(or jump before the spider climbing up hits you.) Repeat. Against the 3-3 boss, he only goes back and forth and shoots slow shots, so just dodge those jump off the edge and attack. He counters with two missile shots that are easy to dodge, but if you know where they're coming from jump up and attack him as soon as he rises. You can always take this boss slow to finish and attack him once each time.

wow kupomogli that didn't take long, can you just confirm that you beat it after 12:00 EDT?

Thanks :)

edit: I tried this challenge this morning. It is going to be hard.

I've never really played Ninja Gaiden before (only a few times at a play choice machine), I found it frustrating so never gave the series any interest whatsoever. I have managed to pick up a few NG games though, just in lots that I've purchased.

I made it through level 1 no problem. Level 2-2 was a bastard with the wind. I couldn't beat the level 2 boss until I read kupo's post above. I also checked a youtube video for the boss but they used some fire magic.

I died on 3-1. There was just too much shit on the screen at once. Things were flying at me, flames were chasing me and guys were just hanging out solely to cut me up. They got the better of me. I did realise that you can just pause the game and the lightning keeps flashing, so you'll at least be able to see the level.

My real problem is that I'm having trouble with the game's controls. My guy keeps getting stuck on walls. He'll jump next to one and grab on. Great. The problem is when I want to climb up to the top and go over a ledge. Sometimes he'll just climb up and go onto the top. Sometimes he'll climb to the top but won't go onto the ledge, so I have to do a little jump to the left, push right and he'll be on the ledge. However a lot of the time he won't do either and will just sit there. Can't climb onto the top and won't do the jump-thing. This was where I was stuck in 3-1 while getting raped by fireballs and guys cutting me up.

Also, I hit a couple of item boxes, I couldn't help it.

wow kupomogli that didn't take long, can you just confirm that you beat it after 12:00 EDT?.

Ninja Gaiden 2 is one of my favorite platformers of all time. As soon as I saw it posted I knew I'd finish it in no time. Also, confirming I beat the Ninja Gaiden 2 challenge since when I previously posted it was before the date.

Anyways. I have a good one in mind, one of my favorite games. Good challenge too but not too difficult or anything to where everyone won't be able to finish it. I might think for another game and another challenge that gives a little bit of difficulty.

Also. I think this is awesome. I think this should be an ongoing thing.

Goddamnit. I can make it to 3-1 pretty easily, but 3-1 absolutely kills me. There is so much shit going on. :(

If 3-1 is too difficult you're going to love 3-2 :P. With 3-1 let the lightning go by so you can get used to the stage. I'll give you a hint with the hardest part in the stage. In the top most portion there will be goo on an opposite wall to your right, but you have to jump to pillars. Wait until it shoots at you and take a jump from the very edge. There is a bat that will come and this will give the bat that height, so you won't have to worry about getting hit by the bat once you land on the first pillar and jump to the next.

Also with birds on 3-2. Go slow, and when you see a bird, just duck wait for it to get near and then slash. They'll always start to level out, and on stage 3-2 I think they start pretty level each part they're at. You'll also only see them on two screens.

I finally finished the challenge :).

My Ninja Gaiden skills aren't even close to what I thought they were. I think I relied very heavily on power-ups and life refills when I used to play, so when I tried to complete the challenge I found myself dying a lot more than I had expected to. At least this challenge wasn't for Ninja Gaiden 3. I don't know if I've even seen 3-3 in that game on an actual NES cart.

I really enjoy this. It reminds me of the challenges in Retro Game Challenge, only with my actual NES games.

Oh, and that job I used to have where I was able to play NES games was working as a donation attendant at Goodwill. People would occasionally donate NES systems, and if I ever found myself without anything to do I'd play whatever game was available. I really only got to do that a few times, though.

I did it.

This was a hell of a lot harder than I thought it would be, took me about six tries to do it in one credit, then I gave up and decided to go with two credits. I arrived at the Tower of Lajah with half a lifebar and no lives in reserve, so I committed suicide to start at 3-1 with a couple extra chances. To me, the hardest part was accidentally picking up items when I attack an enemy, or using a special weapon when I press the button while stuck to a wall. So I ended up hitting reset whenever that happened. It also took me a little while to figure out a good pattern for beating Funky Dynamite.

My score was 57,900 after using a second credit in stage 3. Now I will celebrate my victory by making me some pancakes!

Okay, finally did it. It seems my NG2 skills are very rusty, as I lost 2 lives during 2-2, and lost my last life on Baron Spider. I then started 2-2 over, and made it through fairly easily the second time. I made it to 3-2 where I lost a life in the room where the 3 birds are. I then made it to Funky Dynamite and beat him with one hit point remaining.
