View Full Version : PSone LCD screen w/ broken/no backlight worth anything?

I've got one of the official LCD screens for the PSone. At first I thought it was all dead, but then I realized it is just mostly dead. It appears that the screen is still working, but without the backlight it is so dark you can barely see the white boot-up screen.

I know these are used for mod projects and such, where the native backlight isn't used, so is it worth anything in this condition?

And in case anyone is wondering if it was deliberate: 'Humperdink, Humperdink, Humperdink!'

A lot of people who "portabilize" game systems use these screens, and most of the time they replace the backlight with LEDs to save energy. I'd say that this screen should still be worth something to people who are going to use it with LEDs anyway.

Hah! I just came across this screen in a bin I'm trying to clear out, and found this thread in a google search trying to find out if I should try to fix it. Probably just sell it as is, at this point.

Jinkies! Just tested it, same as always, no backlight. Screen was streaked, so I wiped it down w/ some water and cheesecloth, then cleaned all over the screen and psone, and I go to take pictures and the damn thing works. Now I don't know if I want to sell it. I'll never use it, but the psone with the screen was such a slick setup! (only this psone doesn't read discs, so there's that.)

sell the PSOne instead, get a new one...
or better yet, get a working one, swap shells if its crappy looking, sell the non working one for parts

what not working? not reading discs or no one home at all?

Not reading discs. It spins, then stops and asks to insert a PS1 disc. I'm selling it, though it is barely worth it... I have it at 15 shipped and not much interest.

Turns out in my digging around/clearing out, I found I have another very nice one, complete in box, that works great! I thought I had this other one, but it'd been buried in a box beneath controllers/guns/accessories, and I sort of lost track of it.
