OK, I know nothing about this game. Except it's called Blood Bros. It's a western themed game. And there's a lot of shooting.

Woo, that was quick. Blood Bros. is Cabal in the Old West. I'm not exactly keen on some of the boards (some look kinda goofy, i.e. the train stage and the mine later on) but there's lots of stuff going on to keep you occupied - the stage that immediately comes to mind for me is standing in the middle of a street as blimps and stuff fly up and bomb you. Powerups work like Cabal, except this time the powerup weapon actually makes sense as something you'd replace your primary with: A Maxim gun type thing (with the circular drum mounted on top) if memory serves. Reminds me of Cheyenne, except better.

By far the bloodiest of the "Bros." games out there - though pretty tame by today's standards.

I find the extra little "period" things being used for scoring opportunities adds more humor than in Cabal, while the way enemies and the heroes act and animate (even how they sound) is very similar to before: dudes wind-up when throwing dynamite, I think they recolored the earlier sprites. The heroes even do the legendary post-stage dance over the terrain. It makes it feel familiar. Unfortunately, there wasn't a trackball version of the game (as far as I can tell)...it's still quite playable though.

Score:

Excellent. I simply love this game. As Ed wrote above, it's essentially Cabal in the Old West. I've always liked this game way more than Cabal however. There are two weapon powerups, the little shotgun and then the big rifle. Both increase the size of your target crosshair, largest for the biggest gun. Three buttons: fire, roll, grenade. I'd assume TAD went with joysticks for this game so that it could be swapped easier in JAMMA cabs.

Graphics are colorful, detailed and fluid. Nearly anything on the screen can be shot or blow to pieces. Sound design plays right into the rapid fire gameplay and the little title screen tune remains one of my favorite pieces of game music - regardless of how short it is. Awesome alone or with a friend.

Nah, don't worry about it InsaneDavid. I've had no time to really get into it at all. Fortunately. I have nothing at all going on tomorrow. So I'm going to give the game a good going over tomorrow. I'm also going to give a lot of my 360 collection a play, as I've rather not been playing it recently.

Ah, well I tried.
How did you feel about it?

Me, I think I like Cabal better, on balance, for some reason. Probably that being some of the stages (called them "boards" earlier) are rather meh and don't have the number of background targets to demolish as in Cabal - it's pretty disappointing to wipe out all the bonuses in the first twenty seconds of the stage.

Fun little game. I have to admit I've never played Cabal or this before, so I didn't know what to expect. It kind of reminded me of a joystick controlled version of Operation Wolf at some level. Definitely one to keep in the MAME rotation.

New game coming up tomorrow. Can you feel the excitement?
