Hey everyone. Noob here.
Curious about this game. I found it in an old shop here in Taiwan, new for about $15. Looks like an interesting game. Worth getting? Will its value go down if I open it to play? There was also a Japanese Bomberman for DC. They also had a bunch of other Japanese DC and Saturn games from $10-$15. I'll try to take some pics next time since I can't read Japanese and have no idea what the games are called.
Anyway, just curious if anyone knows about that Mercurius Pretty game...

If you can't read japanese, then you really won't be able to play this game.

Isn't it essentially Princess Maker? If so, there is a copy of an English beta translation of Princess Maker 2 for DOS that has been drifting around for years. Excellent game, I would suggest going that route.

I don't think it's Princess Maker (directly), but it did have way too many visual-novel elements for someone who isn't a Master of Japanese.

It's a mix of Princess Maker and a visual novel.
And yes of course the value is going to go down if you open it and play it. That is true of EVERY sealed game.

I've seen sealed games for .01 :P There is apparently a rock-bottom :P

I know I won't understand it, but I still like to play them. Its exciting and frustrating for a collector to find a pile of old Japanese games in a store since its hard to look up the ones with no English titles and $10-$15 each can get expensive just guessing on which ones are good. Anyway, thanks for the info. Not a big deal, but I spose it would be fun to get it anyway.

I play a lot of Japanese RPGs and the like (dating sims and such), so I totally understand. But I will say certain games are much harder to figure out than others. You can probably get to the end of Mercurious Pretty, I don't think there's anything that will end the game prematurely, but I haven't gotten far enough into it to tell. It's just... not the kind of game that I think is all that great if you can't understand what you're doing. It's certainly easier to play than the aforementioned Princess Maker series. There just isn't much to it if you don't understand what's going on.
The reason I say this is b/c there are loads of great Japanese exclusive Dreamcast games that playable w/o Japanese knowledge and are a lot of fun. Heck, I'd take a dating sim or adventure game over this one, even. But it's your money, I hope you enjoy the title if you decide to pick it up.
