Nope, PS3 controllers are hungry monkeys, when you pop the mini USB in it'll start to feed.

Why would it screw up the battery? It can charge and play at the same time.

i learned from over charging my old cell

that if the battery aint anywhere close to being nearly or completely dead dont charge it

i fried my cell battery before by doing that like charging it when it didnt need to be. my cell went from lasting like 3 days or 4 if i didnt use it to barely 30 minutes.

I thought Li-Ion batteries were immune to charge-memory issues.

That was probably an older NiMH battery and yes those you need to fully discharge before charging back up so it doesnt develop a memory. Lithium Ion batteries don't have the same issues as they have essentially a set number of full recharges/discharges. Its actually harder on a Li Ion battery to fully recharge it than it is to just keep it topped off.

Yeah ... "memory points" are practically a non-issue with modern rechargeables, and gaming devices have built in electronics to constantly measure charge levels and pull a trickle charge from the USB accordingly.

I seriously wouldn't worry about it getting damaged or losing charge capacity.

BUT if you REALLY want to avoid the USB cord ... you can pick up a Bluetooth dongle and install the PS3 controller drivers, etc.

Robocop2 is right. You actually want to keep a Lithium Ion battery topped off. Letting it loose too much charge before recharging it can actually shorten it's life.

Also, with every recharge, their voltage capacity decreases. Meaning that every time you charge it, it's now a slightly lower voltage battery. Keeping it charged helps stop this because you won't have to charge it from a lower voltage.

Logitech makes a PC controller thats built like a ps2/ps3 controller. I think its $20 and you wont have to be all paranoid about charging. Take the tin foil hat off and take a few deep breaths.
