I recently saw a copy of this at a local store for $39.99. eBay and Amazon have a variety of prices, mainly high (but some as low as $20).
Is the game actually worth a lot of money, rare and really good? I'm curious for a response from a person rather than just looking up various prices.

It's not a game. It's a music generator. There really isn't much to play, other than to make the sounds and have fun with it. If memory serves, there isn't even a way to save your music either, losing your amazing creations to the ether when you turn it off.
Prices have fallen from their highs of a year ago +. Last one I sold went for the 50 I paid for it. At the time thats also about what it was hitting on eBay and similar places. They used to move for 70-80.

I don't really understand the point of a music generator if you cannot save your creations. That's just weird.
I've always been interested in it but that actually took it down a fair bit.

It is a very cool... experience. That said, I messed with it for a half hour when I got it and that's about it. Not that I don't want to, I just haven't. More than most games, it seems to be more like a piece of art. I'm not really one for calling video games 'art' like some people do all the time, I just think some games get close. Ico and SotC get a bit close.
I really think I would spend more time with this game if I spent more time on my DS in general. It seems like it would be great for messing around with on the bus.

Some amature DJ use Electroplankton & KORG to create spectacular music. It is a cheap form of music creation instead of shelling out $900 for professional mixer.

I think I paid $14+ shipping for mine, but then, that seems uncommonly good.
~$30 is the average I see. I don't really go by ebay prices though, so don't quote me on that. I usually go by what it would sell for on a site like DP...I hate the inflated ebay economy generally.

That's really good stuff there. Thanks for the links! I haven't played my Electroplankton in ages, but this makes me want to break it out again...
