The only version that's region locked.
Seen a lot of carts glitch out on region change, but this was a pleasant surprise.

I like how even though the game knows something is up, it still boots up anyway :P

What-what-whaaaat?
That's freakin' cool and soooo weird that that's actually in the game's data!
Reminds me of one time I turned on Donkey Kong Country 2 on my (model 2) SNES, and it came up with a screen saying "this game will not run on machines used to illegally copy game cartridges." and wouldn't play. I turned it off and on again, and it was fine, and I haven't seen the message since. Anything like this happen to anybody else?

Awesome find.
One of my favorites is the easter egg in Super Metroid. If you boot the game with a dead save battery, you start with 0 Energy and die. I would be so pissed off if I didn't know the cause of that.

That's one of the most clever easter eggs I've ever seen!
I wonder if the same dev team put that egg into their other games...

Oh, anti-piracy measures, you so funny.

That is seriously one of the coolest things I've ever seen. I too hope the dev team did that elsewhere as well.

The SNES will do that sometimes if the cart is dirty. I've heard that happening with different games before.

Yeah, dirty cart contacts will give a bad CRC, resulting in a false alarm. A Game Genie will also bring it up on some games.
bombman: did the message change in real time? It's possible for the game to remember the change even through a power cycle by setting a flag in the battery backed SRAM when the message is displayed.

I imagine this would work on actual hardware with a region switch.

Thats a pretty bizarre easter egg. I love it when people stick stuff like that into a game.
The question is, without emulation, how would this ever, EVER, show up?

I can only imagine that they has some sort of dev equipment with a region switch on it somewhere. This is hilarious.

That's awesome, but man... I can't get past the fact that somehow has a space in the middle.
Also, that Super Metroid dead battery thing is terrible!
