Opening a Virtual Boy

Any tips on opening a Virtual Boy? I have a security bit, but four of the screws are so deep that it doesn't reach. I used a rotary tool to cut out a notch on a standard screwdriver and it works okay on the shallow screws, but it's too hard to line up properly on the deep ones. I tried melting a piece of plastic to mold to the screws, but that just didn't work.

So, how do I get this stupid thing open?

I've been wanting to open mine too but I have the same problem. I found some bits that were longer than mine but they didn't reach in there either.

I've seen complete screwdrivers that have the gamebit tip but I don't recall where. Maybe those would do the trick?

no matter what they say none of the bits are long enough to open these. I dremeled down the sides and cut a slot in the top for a screw driver. Works fine.

Yep, that worked quite nicely, I should have just tried it first instead of messing with all those other ways. But either way, my Virtual Boy now has two working eyepieces instead of one! :cool:

good to see i helped someone. My bit came with a malformed "star torx" or whatever so I complained and got another free one, wich was malformed as well. Oh well it works for me.

guys please don't destroy your good Virtual Boy systems when you can use the right gamebit tool to open it. most of the crappy gamebits are those black ones that you see sold everywhere on the internet. most gaming stores and mod store carry these cheap bits.

what they fail to let on is that these gamebits are too short to reach into the virtual boy or any other gaming console for that matter and most of them are like gokugohandave said "malformed star torx" which means the teeth of the darn thing aren't even strong or broken.

i search hard and long and found a reputable place to get the right game bit. look here for those real virtual boy gamebits (http://www.newelectronx.com/join-email-list.php?letter_id=68&lettertype=&pageaction=browse) and never use a dremel again. i hope. haha :p

thats exactly why i was saying do not buy those crappy bits, because they are not long enough and plus the teeth are generally worn or mis-formed right out the box. but the pair i have 3.8mm and 4.5mm are perfect. 100% USA quality - the bits are also extra long, so even if you put them in a screwdriver handle they still go deep - i mean deep into the carts and console without any problem. you do not have to drill the cart hole open or modify the console to get them to work properly. they work swell right out of the box.
