Anyone tried this mod to get the extra sound channel the FDS adds on a US NES using the Powerpak?

It sounds interesting, but I'm wondering what happens when you try and play a regular NES cart. Something tells me that it wouldn't be happy with this mod, hence the switch the guy adds. I don't want a huge honkin' switch hanging out of my NES.

If you need to install a switch and don't want to see it, there are some well-hidden places on the underside of the console.
You could even hide under the snap-in cover.

Wow, that's one of the most horribly awful mod tutorials I've ever seen.
"Let's see here, mount this lone resistor on this big component board, glue it to the outside of the case, then run seven inch leads back to the solder side of the PCB, then get the biggest pushbutton switch you can find at Radio Shack..." And people harsh on my mod tutorials.

True.
Even I could do better and my only mod-job ended with the unfortunate demise of a model 1 Genesis.

Couldn't you just skip the board and solder the wires to the resistor? I guess you may be insuating that? I am asking because this is a mod I could even do.

Yeah, on top of that it's a far safer bet to attach the resistor / leads on the other side of the PCB board where the rest of the components are. There are 40 million smaller switches that can be used and then mounted elsewhere. As has been said, the bottom of the console is a more ideal location to place a switch. Also the whole "maybe the hole I drilled is the right size for mounting the switch" trial and error thing on top of that.

Is there a list of Famicom games that would benifit from this mod?

It's super awesome how he chose to have a seven minute loop of Contra music for the video instead of, you know, playing some music that uses the extra channels in his mod.
