I have a Shining Force game and as the topic title says... won't hold a save
can the problem be the battery? should the clips be attached to the battery?
here are a few pics(sorry for bad quality, camera phone)

I would imagine that that's the problem. The question is, how did it get bent up in the first place?

It should be okay if you solder the clip down. Heck, it might even work if you bend it back and tape it down.
I suspect someone tried to replace the battery and did a bad job of it. You'd probably want to put a new one in while you're at it.

you're probably right
I tried the tape and it still didn't work, guess i have to solder it
by the way, is it possible to get one of those battery holders and attach it to the board?

And for that matter, can you get replacement batteries?

Replacement batteries can be bought almost anywhere, as it probably uses a CR2032. However, they won't come with the clip. As for the battery holder, I recall somebody discussing how he installed a holder every time he replaced a battery. I don't recall who this was.
I personally would like to know which battery holder to get for each system, i.e. what model has pins that will fit in the PCB, or which is the easiest to attach otherwise. It would be nice to have a specific part number so that I can place an order.
