Diablo PSX 4-player version: Does it exist?

In doing research for the PSX rarity list, I've found several sources that claim the four-player version (same as the two-player but using the multitap) was cancelled. I've searched ebay, half.com, and several other sites, and I've never seen it anywhere.

HOWEVER, I distinctly remember seeing it on the store shelves. It was either in an EB World or a Toys 'R Us, and the two versions were sitting side by side, the four-player version costing about ten dollars more than the other one. It looked exactly like the two-player version but had the number 4 instead and the word "multitap" appeared as well. I only saw it the one time, and never came across it again either in the wild or online.

Has anyone else spotted one? This has been driving me nuts for months.

yeah , I also remember when I bought diablo from EB like 3 or 4 years ago there was another one that had a sticker on it for the multitap but i didnt buy it because i never used the multi, and after that i dont think ive ever seen it anywhere else, if i do i will let you know

Bam! The Playstation's future "Quadrun". Well, if it exists. Have you guys tried using a multitap with your copies of Diablo? I don't have a copy to test, but isn't it possible that the multitap support was built in but not advertised or documented in the original version?
