Please help me identify this NES Game!

There was a NES game I used to play all the time, but I now cannot remember the name! I remember you played as a soldier, and you could pick up items (which I think were square blocks with a letter on them). You could also get into a tank and attack that way. You were fighting through what looked like cement enemy outposts in a desert. I think it was from a top view. If anyone can help me find this, I'd really appreciate it! Thx!

Guerrila War, I would think. Awesome game. DId the game have sections where you could lasso hostages, and did the game have infinite continues, so you could always blow through the game in one sitting? If so, it's GW.

You should play Jackal....My brither and I played it upnorth over memorial day and forgot how fun that game was.
