thats awesome, thats a big risk to ban that many customers though. But like you said, cheaters deserve it.

Nah, it's not. They've already taken everyone's money, since Diablo II is free to play on Battle.net. I think banning is the least of their problems, what with constantly screwing up the game mathematics in order to make all the best strategies completely useless. And this whole 1.10 patch thing is a riot. How long does it take to release a patch, anyway? Oh well. I haven't played the game in quite a while now, and I really don't miss it.

How does Blizzard stay in business, anyway? The release a game roughly once every two years, it seems.

Because that game sells several million copies, a very rare thing in the PC world, and because PC games are more profitable than console games (no licensing fees, no mandatory production procedures other than a standard-sized box to satisfy Wal-Mart).

The banning of 110,000 gamers is a remarkable thing, but as David said, Diablo II is free to play, so it has no economic impact. Something like, say, Sony Online Entertainment banning 110,000 $10-a-month EQ subscribers for cheating would be much more interesting.

They're also not banning that many people from any recent game...Diablo II has been out for a long time and those cheaters have probably gotten their money's worth out of the game even if the reason they got it was solely the multiplayer option.

If they banned 100,000 people after the first week of sales it would probably be much more dramatic as it would affect the shelf life of the product from then on.

Thats true, I guess its not that bad.

Anyway cheaters shouldn't have rights and deserve to be banned.

Excuse my French but Blizzard is a piece of shit!

I had two accounts full of high level characters that it took a year to build and Blizzard changed the passwords on both of them earlier in the year when they had their first witch hunt. Many legitimate people who weren't cheaters have been locked out and in fact many cheaters and spammers are still openly cheating on battle.net. Blizzard's cheat detection sucks big time. Read the message boards over at www.diabloii.net for more on this.

I NEVER cheated while playing but they didn't seem to care in the least if they screwed some of their loyal customers. Christ, I sent them numerous emails and never even received a response from a human being. Just an automatic canned response about terms of service. They don't even want to hear about it.

I could have started a new account and new characters as they only locked my account, not my CD key but I decided to uninstall and quit the game instead. On my honor, I'll never purchase another Blizzard game.

The only good thing about Diablo 2 was it was free to play online. It got old though real quick. I still fire it up just to keep my characters active.

doesn't anyone know? this already is the 2nd time they banned over 100.000 users for cheating, the main problem with those cheaters is that they sell items and character on ebay for a lot of money, so thank god blizzard is doing something against them

Nice way to reduce a lot of bandwidth from the servers... and as such reduce cost of operating a free service.
