View Full Version : Classic Gamer Magazine--10 year anniversary
I dug out a copy of classic gamer magazine today and realized it came out
exactly 10 years ago.
For those of you who don't know, this magazine was published by
Chris Cavanaugh. It was the first full color magazine dedicated to
classic video games. I wish it had lasted more than 6 issues.
I get them out every once in a while and reread them.
Good stuff.
i just looked up the website that i thought
was gone and it's still there.
You can buy the old old issues on cd here.

Heh...wow...thanks! Geez....you're right. It's been ten years. My god! I was so so idealistic (and naive!) about the project back then. I'm just happy people liked it. Unfortunately I lost a king's ransom on the project (aye yi yi!)
We did do a couple more free PDF versions and have had many many many (many) false starts on follow-ups. My life has changed in the past ten years (went back to school to get a degree, had a baby, got married...) so the mag fell by the wayside.
I actually loved how the PDF issues turned out and would love to do more. However, it is just a huge suckage of time.
That said, if anyone with skills (or potential skills) would want to handle the layout (for free...always a catch) then let's talk and we can fire this thing up again.

Yeah, i love the pdf issues too. I printed them
out in full color and had them bound at Kinkos.
With toner and cover, i probably spend $ 15 on each issue

I think Mr. T here wins the Most Dedicated CGM Fan Evah award. If there's ever another issue, I promise to write really short articles in order to help him knock that down to $12. :rocker:
I can't believe it's been that long either - I have nothing but fond memories about CGM, as it was really the point at which I left my own little corner of the interwebs and became part of this crazy classic gaming community. I still remember contacting Cav and offering him the use of the marquee graphics I had scanned on my site. Next thing I know, I'm writing stuff and becoming the official defender of the Odyssey2 for the whole mag. :p Good times!
Now that I'd like to see! Perhaps at the next CGExpo.
I don't even have physical copies of the original print run. I had to fill orders and figured I could print them out at any time. And then the printer died. Oops.

I second that award, Earl! Yeah, good times indeed. I remember we had a good natured rivalry with "Syzygy Magazine" at the time. No idea whatever became of that guy. I was very envious when he ran the article about the military Battlezone.
One "complaint" I received was that I should rename it "Earl Green Magazine" because he filled an issue with so much of his writing. Maybe I should've created a spinoff. Tim Snider also did a ton of work on all of the issues. It's amazing how many talented people are in these forums.
