A curious item ... how much of the blurb here do you reckon is true, and how much did he just make up?

And are these cd "prototype" things anywhere near as collectable as prototype carts? They don't seem to have the same appeal as the blank cart with chips all hanging out of it ... where's the attraction in having a few blank discs?
I suppose the same could be asked of carts... but I don't know, they just seem, well, more interesting to have. What do you think?

Bet they're a scam. The DC ones looked unique, and I'd bet that the Saturn ones do too...

Well the SEGA logo is on the inner rim of the disks so I would say- who gives a crap! C'mon now these are not protos they fit under the plain and useless
category. But at only 1 pound to start how can you go wrong? LOL

Ah, I just found this too, but it looks like someone beat me to posting about it. I agree with Stark, but, um if they work...I really need to play that game lol. Hmmm..I think I can afford a few pounds, despite current low cash levels. I think about...ooo...7 hours before I'm outbid.

I think stuff like this is cool. In most cases (this one included) I wouldn't pay more than I would for the actual released game but it is still interesting.

That most likely is a scam. I have a set of prototype CDRs for PDS, and they come on special Saturn Printed discs (Sega official), and the codename was AZEL, and it is written as such on the discs.

And what's the deal with "This Side Up" on the CDr's? Do CD's have a top and a bottom?
And yeah, it doesn't look like more than a scam to me. The discs are just CDr's! I guess its possible that they're "officiall developer" CDr's, but since there's no way of knowing from the description, the discs are no more valuable than 4 burned copies of a game.

Well, the advantage over 4 burned discs would presumably be that these will play on an un-modded saturn.
I presume that the "this side up" biz is because the CDs have nothing printed on them, and look the same on both sides (which would suggest that they are not just standard CDrs which are now made with coloured readable surfaces for precisely that reason.

If it plays on an unmodded saturn it has to have that extra Saturn security bit on the outside of the disc... and can't be a cdr. If the discs go in the $25 range that's probably worth it to someone who does not have the game. The game is that good.

Aren't they press cd's they used to send out to magazines? I have a bunch that are just like that and the guy I bought them from said he got them from some guy who reviewed game for a magazine.

This is what I thought they were. That or copies that were sent to testers.
