Fuck whoever thought this is a good idea, its really killing my sales. They have been way down ever since it was implemented and i didn't make it.

I'm not a top seller (and likely never will be) and my sales are the same, if not up. I haven't noticed any change in sales due to any of ebay's promotional garbage, even when my Best Match search standing was in "lowered" for a month.
It is a worthless idea though, and another way they reward the massive sellers while hurting or ignoring the casual seller.
I buy stuff all the time on ebay, and do you know what matters most? Price. As long as the seller has half-way acceptable feedback, I'm buying regardless if the price is good. I don't give a shit if they are a Top Seller if they don't have the best price.

May I ask what exactly is the "top seller" program?
I'm at a total loss. O_o

I'm at a total loss. O_oeveryone who qualifies will get a medal next to their listings that says "top-rated seller."

I'd never heard of this... "top-rated seller" thing until just now.

there's sellers that have over a 100,000 sales & sell 20 to 30,000 per month,
are you in that crowd......if you are congrats..

If somebody has something I want, I'll find and buy it. Seems simple. What's the theory for this Top Sellers program causing your volume to decline, darkslime?

Apparently these "top sellers" show up on searches before other sellers who may even have the item at a cheaper price.

Ebay just wants to screw over the little guys.

The best match program does effect people who are not top sellers. The issue is the typical buyer on Ebay doesn't do alot of research. They just do a search and then buy the item that pops up. Unfortunately the default item that pops up is the item from the top seller who qualifies for best match.

So a hypothesis then.:)
Doesn't surprize me at all though.

What a dastardly concept. You know, there's been highlighted auctions at the top of search pages that are more expensive / less relevant than other things for...hell, I can't remember how long, probably as long as I've been on the 'Bay. They like throwing lots of unrelated stuff too, like a Surprise Attack search brought up a "sorry, we didn't find your item, but we did find this nice lawn chair."
I wouldn't buy an item that was more expensive than another, so long as I could somehow find the other. Highlighting on an item is almost an automatic cue to look away.

This hasn't affected my sales at all. I have noticed a few sellers had this distinction but they are sellers that move tons of inventory every month. If thats the general requirement than I won't be joining that group. But thats ok because my sales have been pretty consistent month over month.

The way I look at it, the "top seller" designation is a turn off for me. If those are the auctions that most people will see first, I will work a little harder to find the auctions that may get overlooked and therefore less bids and competition for me.

I received Top Seller status and I can't say it makes a bit of difference in my sales. If anything, I have noticed a downward trend from last year at this time.
I seem to get more questions and challenges about details of my sales terms, however. I'm not sure if this is due to the Top Seller badge, but it seems like some buyers are "testing" me looking for reasons to disbelieve the Top Seller badge. Buyers often assume the worst when there is a problem and are surprised when they get a personal and sympathetic response from me correcting the problem.
I think the average eBay buyer has become more sophisticated lately. The logic seems to be: "If eBay likes this guy then I should be wary since eBay only does things in their own self interest".
Yeah, I don't sell on eBay much, so I cannot comment on the top seller programme. However, I am cheap---well maybe not cheap, but I don't like to waste money, hence why I search yardsales, booksales, thrifts, eBay...for this I want to buy. If I am looking for something, I look at price first, then condition, then feedback. If you have a better price than the first listing, and it is for the same item, then don't worry, I may grab yours.

We're at what, nearly 10% unemployment throughout the United States right now. Makes sense.

What about the rest of the world? I thought eBay was a global marketplace.

And, indeed, international sales are up for me.
