I found a Saturn cartridge at the flea market yesterday, and I'm looking for some information on it.

I've seen what the normal Action Replay 4-in-1 looks like, but I can't seem to find information on this one.

http://img193.imageshack.us/i/sdc12116w.jpg/(Sorry for the blurred picture. I can put a clearer one up by request.)

When I put it into my Saturn, it doesn't seem to do /anything/.
I don't have any games that utilize a ram cart, so I can't test that function, but the Action Replay menu doesn't appear. It also, more often then not, just sends my Saturn to the BIOS cd player rather than booting the disc. I already tried cleaning contacts with alcohol.

Anyone have any information on it? Suggestions how to get it working? Maybe other ways to test it?

Trying playing an import. Some of the less featured converter carts like the ST-Key take you to the cd player before starting the actual game.

According to my girlfriend, it says it is a 4 Megabyte RAM cart. However, she also says some of the text is Chinese (The red bit under where it says V.2).

Well, Chinese characters, at least. Either way, Chinese characters or Japanese kanji (I think the latter -- most of them look familiar.

*checks through the jishos (dictionaries) lying about*

The "red part" appears to be Japanese, in fact, just written in Kanji. It says "Four Big Merit Go Anywhere." I'm guessing (though I can't be sure -- fourth-year Japanese major, and my kanji skills are still pretty much the suck) that means "Four MegaByte Import thingy."

She certainly got the four right, though.

Above "Action Replay," in case you wondered, it says "Action Replay." Just in Japanese Katakana characters.

The top left means "Expansion" followed by "RAM CARD" in english. In full, that line is "Expansion RAM Card".

I'll try to do some more when I get back -- class time >.<;

The Chinese text means something like "4 in 1".

It probably is the same thing as the Action Replay 4-in-1. Maybe it's just defective. My first 4-in-1 that I bought brand new didn't work at all.

I have a 4 in 1 that does everything except save games. I haven't figured out why but it just seems to stay their on the "saving" screen forever.

Even the non-bootleg versions of these carts don't last too long. I've gone thru several so far. (I was actually hoping on selling my US Saturn and keeping the JPN version along w/ an Action Replay so I could play the handful of US titles I own and enjoy... but before I could the cart died on me.)

The text on that cart is all Chinese, although it does share the very top left word with Japanese. That part simply reads "Expansion Ram Card." I dunno anything about these RAM carts though so that's all I can say.

Thanks for the help, everyone.

Is there any possible way to fix a broken one of these carts? Anyone been successful in resurrecting one?

Try cleaning the contacts with one of those white erasers that you can get from an art store. Sometimes they work better than rubbing alcohol.

Is the backup battery (the button cell accessible from the rear) in your Saturn operational (i.e. not dead)?

I seem to remember something about Gameshark cartridges not functioning if the backup battery is dead. Maybe that applies here.

I wonder if that will help my Action Replay 4 and 1. It works except for being able to save games.

If you're lucky, the few US titles you want to play are region free (so you don't need a cart). You can check the list here:

Interesting, I didn't realize ANY Saturn games were region-free. I see a couple on that list I own, but I still have too many other domestic US Saturn games I'd want to play. Thankfully, my Action Replay 4-in-1 cart I bought used some 9 years ago is still working today. Or, it was last time I fired up my Saturn to play an import (a few months back). Hopefully when it comes out of storage again soon it will still work...

Wow, thanks for the list, I had no idea. Sadly, only half the games I want to play are listed (yeah I'm not big on the US side of the Saturn). Oh well... I'll have to check and see if my JPN Saturn's battery is working or not, that might be why the cart isn't working. Tho... I think it IS working since I recently changed it. XD

Thanks for the suggestion. I will definitely check my Saturn's battery, as I know it's dead. I think I may have a live one around somewhere to replace it... I hope!
