The retro revival streak at Konami has already spawned a handful of new downloadable releases: Gradius, Contra and (soon) Castlevania have all been given the "ReBirth" treatment. Konami will also be revisiting Rocket Knight Adventures, but in a different fashion.
Unlike the ReBirth revivals, the newest Rocket Knight, as revealed by 1UP, will be given a 3D graphical makeover, staying true to its 2D gameplay roots. And unlike previous Konami retro spin-offs, this one's coming to Xbox Live Arcade, the PlayStation Network, and PCs via Steam.
For those unfamiliar with the Rocket Knight Adventure series and its armored opossum protagonist Sparkster, the mascot-starring original spawned over 15 years ago on the Sega Genesis, with two follow up titles quickly following. The side-scrolling platformer (and occasional shoot 'em up-like) was designed by Nobuya Nakazato, responsible for some of the strongest and most difficult entries in the Contra series.
According to 1UP's report, the Rocket Knight sequel is being developed by Climax Studios, the UK development team that created Silent Hill: Origins and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories for Konami. Further details and a handful of high res images of the newest Rocket Knight can be seen at the 1UP reveal.SOURCE (http://kotaku.com/5374647/konami-revisits-rocket-knight-adventures-for-xbla-psn)

SWEEEET! I am now more excited for this than Dragon Age: Origins (kind of unrelated genres, but whatever.) RKA is still one of my all-time favorite action games, and this revival seems to be more Bionic Commando: Rearmed and less Bionic Commando (get it?), so hopefully it'll be fun!
Hopes are high! :D

Love the series, but those screens don't look so hot.

After Turtles in Time Re-Shelled my expectations are pretty damn low, but I guess at least this isn't being made in Singapore and I hope Climax Studios has at least some idea of what makes a game fun.
The screens are decently detailed enough I suppose, but they still look pretty grody compared to the lovely 2D of the original.
Here's a pro tip Konami: Don't farm out your Japanese mascot games to Europeans because their mascot games have a completely different style and feel.

I'll be buying it if the price is right.

I'm a huge fan of this series, but honestly I wish when something like this game goes down as a legend they'd just leave it with the legacy it has rather than pull it out of its coffin and rape it.....
Might sound harsh but honestly, those shots don't impress me at all, and as usual I see they've tried to change the look of the main character perhaps thinking it makes him more "quirky and cute for the modern generation." I'm really not a fan of character changes.

Interesting. I loved the original, so I hope this version is equally as good.
And I hope the price is right.

Anyone else getting LostWinds vibes from this?

Why does it look like a user-created level from Little Big Planet?

Climax Studios... really? The guys that make tons of shovelware and a terrible Silent Hill game are getting another Konami IP? The art direction already turned me off, but now I don't have much hope for the gameplay being any good knowing they're developing this.

Origins wasn't that bad, to be honest. It wasn't the best SH game either, but it did bring me some entertainment and it was enjoyable. Guess it depends on the person.
I hope they (Sony or Microsoft, for instance) release a demo of the game, like TMNT.

My understanding is that it looks better in motion.

Personally, I think it's lost a bit of it's charm...

Just saw the trailer....ick. What is Konami's fascination with this style? In my eyes, this looks like it came from the same mold as Castlevania on the PSP and TMNT Reshelled. It looks "sanitized" in away and lacks any charm or "oof" to the graphics. *sigh* I know believe the recently announced Castlevania rebirth from them will wind up looking the same....

Game looks somewhat sucky.
I know graphics aren't the only thing, but I can't help be be somewhat appalled.
I just hope the gameplay, the most important factor, stays intact.

That trailer turned me off of the game. The art style is pretty bad, everything is too small and busy. Hopefully they don't make it as bad to play as it is to watch.

I didn't understand why everyone was so critical until I saw the trailer. I have to say it also dashed my expectations.

I never played original rocket knight. What's missing from the trailer? It doesn't look that bad to me.

The character design is really bad. The gameplay looks fine, though.

Great trailer.. until the ~48 second mark. :P I'll probably still give the game a chance but it does look a bit meh.

Doesn't look as bad as Rocket Knight 2 though, wow that game aged terribly.
