View Full Version : How to detect Twilight Princess (Wii) fixed version?
There are at least two revisions of Twilight Princess for the Wii, and possibly three.
The first was the original release with the infamous error in the cave which could render your game impossible to complete.
Nintendo acknowledged this error and had a trade-in program to swap for a bug-fixed version of the disc.
There may be a third revision which is just the latest production run. It fixes another game ending error related to a bridge in the game. This error may have been fixed in the trade-in program version, but I do not know.
My question: is there a way, by looking at the disc, to know if you have the bug fixed version?

Would they have slightly different product numbers?
The product code should be the same on all pressings of the disc (RVL-RZDE-USA). There is another code on it labelled "model number" which on my disc is RVL-006(USA).

If it uses the same setup as Gamecube (Keep in mind I don't have my Wii anymore, so I can't run over to my shelf and check), than it will probably have extra numbers after it's product number on the bottom of the disc; close to the center hole. Using Super Smash Bros. Melee as an example, my is listed as "DOL-GALE-0-02", verifying it's a later version than one ending with 00 (Which would be an original 2001 release of the game).
If the setup is the same for Wii discs, this should prove useful.

Infamous error? Really? This is the first I've heard of it.
What/where is it? Google isn't much help.

Don't know if it helps, but mine says:
RVL-RZDE-0A-0 JPN S0
RVL-006 (USA)

There was a big kerfuffle about it when the game first hit. If you saved and reloaded your game in a particular room (I originally mentioned a cave, but it is the "sky cannon room"), you could not progress. Nintendo sent out fixed game discs to anyone with the error who sent in their existing game disc. The code on the disc fixed the broken savegame automatically.
Don't know if it helps, but mine says:
RVL-RZDE-0A-0 JPN S0
RVL-006 (USA)
Mine:
RVL-RZDE-0A-2 USA
So maybe this is the fixed version.

Hmm...mine simply says RVL-RZDE, with nothing after that but the "Model No RVL-006" (which apparently just refers to the type of disc it is - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_optical_discs). I might call Nintendo to see; I bought this used from someone else and have no idea when they purchased the game.
Unfortunately, the only info on the RVL-RZDE stuff I can find has to do with the Homebrew Hack that Twilight Princess afforded...
The extended code I last mentioned is on the data side of the disc, along the inner circle.

Ah...somehow I didn't connect "bottom" with "underside" of the disc; I thought it meant the lower portion of the face side. Looks like I have 0A-2, so I guess I'm good.

Was that bug also in early release versions of the Gamecube version?
Yes, all versions of the Gamecube game have the cannon room glitch, as far as myself and "the internet" knows.
