i'm trying to find a reasonably priced copy of Guardian Heroes for SS, and in the meantime i'd like to start it up. i have an unmodded Japanese saturn, and i just got Action Replay Plus 4meg cart.

i've been googling to no avail for the past few days, but can't seem to find any information regarding the AR and playing cdr back-ups. i don't want to mod my saturn, as i plan on buying the game when i can find a copy that's not insanely priced...nor do i want to wear out the motor with the swap trick.

would anyone have any insight into the situation? thanks in advance.

The only way to play backups on the Saturn is with a modchip.

wow. that was quick. :)

thanks for the info. i'll just have to grin and bear it until i can find a copy that's NOT over $100. prices on ebay are CRAZY.

Running backups without modding or swapping? What system lets you do that, other than Dreamcast?

Saturn emulators can be a pain to get running and require a hefty machine to run at a good speed. Two decent ones do exist.

There is also a swap trick for the Saturn. I had to use it when my mod chip mysteriously quit working halfway through a game.

Yeah, but he said that he didn't want to risk damaging the Saturn with the swap trick so I assumed he already knew about it.

well, i didn't make myself more clear. if we're talking about soft modding, then a LOT of systems let you play back-ups without hard-wiring or swapping.

i do appreciate the swap advice, i did look into it but the long term effects are not worth the short term benefit. i've already ordered Akumajo Dracula X: Nocturne (Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for those not familiar) for Saturn...and i'll just have to wait patiently until i come across a reasonably priced US Guardian Heroes.

Anyone in here fix modded Saturns? Have one with a chip but discs do not spin, would love to get it fixed.

As does 3DO and CDi, for better or worse lol!

yea, there are a few good emus out there. SSF is the best one at the moment, but requires a high end machine to run. Yabause is easier on the processor, but takes a hit in performance as a result.

patience is a virtue!

All of the 3DO console models do.

Didnt the NeoGeo CD have the ability to play backups?

yes, neogeo cd is backup'able as well but sometimes if burnt any faster than I think 4x you get errors and they cause the system to reset or some jazz. While Im responding, the Amiga CD32 as well :-P
