Well, I've been lurking these forums for a while now, and I finally decided to register today because I got pretty curious:

Do Collectors ever collect those Demo Discs that stores use?

I'm 100% certain they exist because the sole reason I purchased Custom Robo (GameCube) was there was a long line (maybe 25-30 people) lined up to play the thing at a Target store. The way we played it was "Loser heads to the back of the line". I got to the front and never lost, I had to leave with my mother (...yeah...) Also, I recently went over to my local Best Buy and they had a MK:Wii demo disc that only had about 8 tracks on it. No line of people there.

So, how much do these things usually sell for?

Yup there are quite a few collectors of store demo discs and cartridges. As for what they sell for, it all depends on the disc or cartridge. Some are worth very little and some are worth a lot.

The rule of thumb seems to be:

A) If it exists, there are people who want to collect it.
B) The harder it is to get, the more people want to get it.

Of course there are collectors.

Some systems don't have many demos, others have TONS. The newer stuff tends to be harder to gauge for a value as well because it hasn't had very much time to work its way out into the market. Initial copies might sell for a bunch, but as more work their way out the prices can drastically drop as the collectors who really care about the game(s) have gotten their copies.

I'm surprised there would be people lined up at Target to play Custom Robo...

It would have been more of a stretch if he had said a Hanna Montana game.

I collect demos period, so store demos are included in that lot. I recently just saw a Wii kiosk demo complete with sleeve at Best Buy. I didn't know they existed in that form so I'm going to have to start collecting those too.
