I picked up a Japanese Powerful Pro Baseball PSX game at NCS: http://www.ncsxshop.com/cgi-bin/shop/SLPM-87033.html

So I thought it would work on my US console because other imports and cdr's work fine with my Boot Disk. I have version 3.2 of the disk that says utility driver disk on the cover, I'm not sure what brand it is exactly but I can look it up later.

But this game looks like it has a mod chip detection and lockout. I get to the title screen but the next screen is a big red circle with a slash across it and then it stops. I've seen some DDR import games do this too. Does anyone have any experience getting these newer PSX games to work or do I have to import a JPN console one of these days?

thanks.

That's the problem that I ran into with Ore No Ryouri.

Boot discs, mod chips, they don't work. You might try a PSX PC Emulator (I haven't found a reliable Mac one yet) When I went to DP's awhile back, he let me use Rayden (sp?) emu for PC. It would have worked, except that the game requires R3 & L3 buttons to play. The emu wouldn't map those buttons.

I ended up buying an import PS2. It is just making life easier knowing that now I can get all the imports I want for both systems without worrying about the lockout.

Yeah, I might just get an import PS2 eventually, seems like the easy way to go. It's not like I'm allergic to adding to my dozens of consoles :)

I tried the disc on ePSXe which is my favorite emu on the PC side (I can't get any of the Mac emus to work :( ). The weird thing is that a lot of the mod protected games like DDR imports run fine on the emulator but I can't get this new game to work, I get the same no-go red sign. I hope they can update they emu so I can check out the game soon :)

is there a list out there of imports that will/wont work with bd's and mods?

and completely off topic. I finally worked out what Aechika's avatar is, and damn, good to see another RGU fan on the boards. Alpha plus!

It looks like Mega Games has one here:

http://www.megagames.com/psx/psx_protected_games_jap.shtml

Judging that the two games oesiii and I had problems with aren't listed, it's not complete. But it's a start.

On another note: RGU is one of the last anime's that I was watching when I was getting out of anime and is one of my favs.
