Hello,

I just beat Resident Evil Code: Veronica for the Sega Dreamcast. I would like to start Resident Evil 5, but before I do, I would like to know the chronological order of Resident Evil games. If you could provide me with a list THAT WOULD BE FANTASTATIC!:villagepeople:

Story wise or release wise?
Release wise it goes 1,2,3,4,5.
Story wise it goes, 1,2,3,4,5.

All the rest are offshoots of the main story.

I always thought it to be 0, 1, 2, 3, Survivor, Code Veronica (X), 4, 5

The Outbreaks take place during 2 and 3 i believe

I don't know where the other ones fall, i figure those were just spinoffs

Moving this thread from off topic to gaming.

I'm pretty sure that this historical Timeline of the console RE Games (story-wise) is accurate. There may be things happening concurrently in games like Outbreak or Survivor while the main storyline of 2 or 3 is happening, so it's tough to get it down to the exact dates.

RE 0
RE 1
RE 2
RE Outbreak 1
RE Outbreak 2
RE 3
RE Code Veronica
RE Survivor
RE Dead Aim
RE Umbrella Chronicles (the ending goes past previous timelines to that point)
RE 4
RE 5

The order gets tricky with 3. Story-wise, it takes place 24 hours before Leon and Claire arrive, making it chronologically before 2. An event that happens in the middle of the game begins a two day time-skip. The post time-skip events occur after 2 ends.

It doesn't matter which way you play 2 and 3, but it is sort of hard to set them in place due to their connected nature.

Resident Evil Zero
Resident Evil/Resident Evil Rebirth
Resident Evil: Nemesis (Up until Boss fight with Nemesis at Clock Tower)
Resident Evil 2 (ClaireA/LeonB)
Resident Evil: Nemesis (Second half of game)
Resident Evil: Gun Survivor
Resident Evil: CODE: Veronica
Resident Evil: Operation Javier (South America Scenario in Darkside Chronicles)
Resident Evil: Umbrella's End (Russia Scenario in Umbrella Chronicles)
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil 5

The Outbreak games are considered canon (at least within the RE community), and they take place during RE: Nemesis/RE2. There's still a lot of debate whether or not Dead Aim is considered as such.

I absolutely loathe and despise RE5 so it was hard to include it. Hell, the movies were better than RE5.

Play Rebirth before you play Zero. Hell, I actually recommend playing Rebirth, 2, Nemesis, and CODE: Veronica BEFORE playing Zero.

I'm glad you brought that up.My friend and I feel this is the chronological order:
Resident Evil:
0
1
3
Out Break
2
Code:Veronica
4
5

That's my take so far.

Cool vids, but seriously, if you haven't played the games, don't watch that retrospective. It basically tells you the plot, almost point for point, of all the games.

Thanks for that warning! I almost clicked!

comment on mobiusclimber's sig picture: I loved Final Fantasy VII on the 2600! I remember when the G.I.A. published that animated GIF on April Fool's day. I'd like to see someone actually program that into a 2600 rom, even if it was just that one cutscene.

Considering there's a pirate famicom version of FFVII, I can't believe a 2600 one would be too far-fetched. Also, man I miss thegia.com... Had to nab this off the way back machine, thankfully it was archived.

I don't think Outbreak, at least the first one, should be before 3. Outbreak starts just at the beginning of the G-Virus outbreak involving the mice detailed in a flashback in 2, which means it chronologically starts before 3. There are already G zombies overunning the series at the beginning of 3. And Outbreak ends at the same time as 3. It really runs concurrent with 3 and 2, which makes the chronology more confusing, but it would be better to list it first.
