With demon soul and the new ps3 slim at a half decent price, I've finally decided to give in and get one. I plan on buying demon soul obviously, and I already have little big planet, but I don't know much about the games available for the console. What games can you guys recomend to pick up cause I'd like to get another two goo titles.

Wasn't there just a thread like this recently?

Why yes, yes there was.

Or there's always this old stand-by. Kind of outdated, but a decent starting point.

Don't ignore the offerings on the PSN or you'll miss out on some great stuff. Wipeout HD, Droplitz, Everyday Shooter, Flower, Pixeljunk Monsters, and Pixeljunk Eden are all solid buys.

I agree Demons souls is the new ps3 must have killer app! It started out as a sleeper hit that was big in japan and was building a cult following here. once it was released here that all changed. it's now the must have game. this game is getting 9 and 9.5 review editors choice awards everywhere. don't even bother with mgs4. it has been tossed aside thanks to demons souls.

I actually agree with what you said about MGS4. I thought it was great, until it got closer to the end of the game.

In typical Japanese fashion, the story starts getting more spotty as the game progresses. I was extremely disappointed with MGS4, when all is said and done.

(I had the same opinion on Resident Evil 4, too - it was a great game until you reach the castle, then the story takes a turn for the worse.)

Multiconsole titles.

Specifically GTA4, Armored Core 4, Armored Core For Answer, Mirror's Edge, and Batman Arkham Asylum. Alot more multiconsole titles are good.

Then Uncharted, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Siren, and Valkyria Chronicles are must haves. People have already mentioned Demon's Souls.

Demon's Soul (lol), I liked Uncharted, Resistance (1&2), GTA4, Little Big Planet, Madden 10, Burnout Paradise, Fall Out 3, Call of Duty 4 (World at War as well), Killzone 2, Bio Shock, Battlefield Bad Company. I know many of these are multi system but they are still damn good.

Also try

Chronicles of Riddick (the remake of Butcher Bay is incredible)
The Darkness( same guys as the Riddick games, this is one of my favorite games this gen)
Siren:New Translation(some great survival horror here)
Folklore( Japanese action/RPG with a wacky story and beautiful graphics and settings)

I would pick up MGS4 (despite what some people say about it), GTAIV, Resistance, Uncharted, and Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction if you're looking for cheaper games around $25-30. If you're looking to spend a little more, I highly recommend Infamous, Uncharted 2, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, and I would imagine the upcoming Ratchet and Clank will probably be worth looking at. Oh Yeah and some good PSN games that are cheap include Wipeout HD and Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty, among many others.

I think I'm the only one so far to recommend other titles that are a bit more obscure. :)

But I am weird, after all. :)

Just finished today Conan...not a bad game, a bit clunky. But definitely worth it.

I'm glad Sony slimmed the system down (I couldn't stand that big, bulky original) and dropped the price...but I'm still on hold about getting a PS3. I'm going to wait for a few more games to come out on it, as there still isn't a whole lot on that system that I want to buy.

I personally could not recommend any cross platform titles on the PS3 if you have a 360. Only a very small number come to mind that turned out better on PS3, those being Burnout Paradise, Devil May Cry 4, and DiRT - and this is because of graphical fidelity, nothing else.

Glad to hear we have another person playing Demon's Souls jumping into the mix. If you were looking to buy one more game I would go with Uncharted 2. If you were looking to buy 2 more games, I would suggest InFamous. If you were gonna go for a third, I would suggest Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

As someone already said, the PSN offers some very good games. I actually own more PSN games than retail. Here are top 10, in no perticular order:

Shatter - fun brick basher, pretty good price
Lemmings - Hey, its Lemmings! And cheap.
Super Stardust HD - must have shooter on PSN
PixelJunk Eden (and Encore) - its a platformer, sorta
Wipeout HD (and Fury) - the Fury expansion nearly doubles the game
Warhawk - not exactly Warhawk, but a fun arcade fighter jet game
Everyday Shooter - independently made shooter, great visuals
Blast Factor - first big PSN game, another shooter (notice a trend here)
ZEN Pinball - if you like pinball games, this one is well done
PixelJunk Monsters (and Encore) - great take on tower defense, standout graphic style

Have fun burning through your money!

Warhawk - not exactly Warhawk, but a fun arcade fighter jet game

Careful.

Warhawk is anything but an "arcade" style game. It's an online-only multi player affair. If you pick it up on the cheap hoping for some arcade thrills you'll probably feel like you got burnt.

BUT, if you dig massive online battles of the Battlefield 1942 vehicle hop-in-hop-out variety (deathmatch, team deathmatch, flag cap and zones) this is one of the PSN's best exclusives (well, until MAG goes live/launches) from the early years and it's still actively populated with dedicated players.

Buzz Quiz TV - If you dig party trivia games, it's fantastic stuff.

Echochrome - While the consensus on this one has never been glowing, despite the sometimes awkward controls I still think it's one of the best puzzle games I've ever played.

High Velocity Bowling - A semi-motion-controlled bowling game with great graphics and ball/lane physics. I prefer it to Wii Sports Bowling (though the motion plus bowling in Sports Resort gives it a run for its money) and it has online multiplayer.

And I don't think you can go wrong with most of the the 1st party stand-bys like Resistance 1/2, Uncharted 1/2, Killzone 2, Little Big Planet, Ratchet & Clank, and Infamous respectively.

And on the subject of multi-platform titles -

Batman Arkham Asylum - Arkham Asylum is a more comprehensive package on the PS3 thanks to the exclusive Joker challenge levels.

Unreal Tournament III allows for user-created character and level mods that Microsoft did not allow on XBLA.

There are probably others, but like all multiplatform games, your mileage may vary, so look for what's important to YOU when choosing between platforms, don't just expect the PS3 or 360 version to be "better" for some arbitrary reason.

I thought the same as well.

Then I decided to buy games that seemed remotely interesting, and notice that there were gems out there that make the console worth having.

The games may not captivate your attention, but I guarantee that when you play them, you will love them. Happened to me. :)

I've had a few friends say the same thing, then they came over and played MGS4, Infamous, or whatever game, and had a PS3 within the week. I think you need to go to your local gaming retailer and take a long, hard at the PS3 section, and if any friends have the system, play some of the bigger exclusives if they have them. While you're at it, go through the Playstation store, there are loads and loads of great and cheap games.

My PS3 brethren swear by Uncharted and I am convinced that it's the best game on the PS3(now outdone by Uncharted 2 of course). Either one should be recommended gaming on the PS3. Beyond that, hit up Infamous.

Interestingly enough, I almost snagged a 160 gig PS3 today. It was bundled with Uncharted but unfortunatly it was $399. Maybe it will drop in price.

Yes! This is indeed a very awesome and overlooked game and the mods make it even better on PS3. Check my old thread with good links and info of the best to pick up (direct download links):

Super Stardust HD

Enough said! Still stands as my favorite shooter of ALL time.
