For you Playstation collectors out there...

I got the newest Gamenow in the mail today (Hulk on the cover). Crappy mag really, I've got a free subscription though. Anyway, in the back they always have a top 10 list. This month it's the top 10 offensive video game characters. #6 are the "Banditos" for Toy Story 2. Under the description it says, "People were so offended by these minor enemy characters that Activision recalled this PS1 game and removed the stereotype."

Now, I've certainly never heard of this recall. Did this actually happen? If so, is the version with the offensive characters a real rarity? How do you tell the difference between versions?

I'm not sure who's in charge of the rarity list, but if this really did happen it needs to be noted. I didn't see it on there.

Hmm, never heard of that. I'll do some research.

If anybody has a copy, lemme know if yours has or hasn't got the "Banditos" in it.

I remember when this happened and picked up the game. Since then I have talked to one of the producers on that project and he said it was not recalled, but adjusted for the 2nd printing. I don't know if it actually went to a 2nd printing though.

IIRC the Banditos were removed from the Greatest Hits version. I worked for TRU back then and we didn't have to send anything back.

On a second note, the recalled version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf 99 is not listed. The first version was recalled because it contained the uncensored South Park "Spirit Of Christmas" video (playable on PC's). It was recalled about 6 weeks or so after release, and we sent back all of our copies. I know that there are packaging differences between the versions, but I only have the first one, so I couldn't say for sure what they are (the top seal had "V.2" after the title).

I remember that Tiger Woods one...that was super sweet :)

All my friends went out to buy it after I showed it to them on my copy...they all got the neutered version...they were pissed :) But they all ended up liking the game at least.

Just a quick question related to this: I've never seen a GH version of Toy Story 2 (Buzz to the Rescue). Was this released as GH w/o the Banditos, or was the plan simply to remove the banditos in this case?
