This is interesting. The publisher is going to produce a physical UMD copy if they reach 1000 preorders, which is great by me because I really wanted a physical copy of this game! There is a cutoff date of November 13th, so if you are even remotely interested, make sure you preorder only here. (http://rosenqueen.com/product.php?productid=16301&cat=0&page=1). I smell a future PSP rarity.

I wonder if there's anyway to find out how many pre-orders there are. I'm seriously thinking about picking it up.

I think it's a win situation for the buyer, credit card has a hold on it until it ships, THEN it's charged. Worse comes to worse, they don't print the game, and you don't get charged.

I smell a future PSP rarity.

Are you sure? It sounds like they're using the preorders as a gauge of potential interest and if they get 1,000 then they'll do a standard print run like any other NIS game. I didn't read it in the sense that they would just print enough to fill the orders.

I preordered one too, what the hell. Default shipping option was $27 - I changed it to the $3 option.

Yeah, it's not really clear. If they are only going to print enough to cover the preorders then I'll join in. But if they're going to do a full print run once they get 1000 orders then I'll hold off.

From the Rosenqueen email:

Hello everyone!

Happy Friday!

First of all, thank you very much for participating in the Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! UMD poll. We have received a lot of votes, and we also received lots of emails from our fans telling us that they really wanted the UMD of Badman. We are now happy to tell you that we've decided to start the preorder for Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! on UMD at the RosenQueen store! (The preorder ends on 11/13).

In order to make it possible for us to release Badman on UMD, we will have to receive at least 1,000 preorders by 11/13. We are currently trying to get some support from retailers for this UMD version of Badman, by letting them know that there are many fans who are still interested in the UMD version of Badman! If we could get supoprt from them, we will be able to make the UMD version of Badman even if the preorders at RosenQueen don't reach 1,000.

If you know anybody who wanted to have the UMD version of Badman, let them know about this preorder!

Looks like (IMO) that if preorder amount is met it would get a normal print run if they're trying to involve retailers.

I am interested, but for some reason I am a little apprehensive.

Is this site legit?

Also, are there problems with the site? Because a friend of mine (Policenaut) is having a plethora of trouble completing the checkout. It seems to be a cookie/cache issue, but just wanted to know if anyone else has suffered this.

Capcom should do the same with Bionic Commando, Megaman 9 & Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD. I'm pretty sure people will buy the physical format.

Heh, what's with the weird way you wrote out the name?

Rosenqueen is a reference to the character Etoile Rosenqueen and her family, who originated as merchants in Rhapsody, Nippon Ichi's first game to get a US release, but the descendants of the Rosenqueen family also showed up as shopkeepers in other NIS games.

It can be kind of confusing since they're not blatantly saying "This is the official Nippon Ichi US store!", but I like their attempt at trying to be a bit more clever.

Icarus Moonsight

Ah, so that's how it is then. LOL

I thought it was more like Guns N Roses, ya know, but maybe that's just my thing. I never played Rhapsody... Otherwise, you'd think it would be pretty obvious huh? *Doh!*

Yeah, I like clever too. I just put too much into it I guess.

Geez, this is pathetic. You'd think giving people a concrete number would light a fire under their asses (it did for me at least), but in that one day span, they only got 5 more orders? :/

That's assuming people want the game to begin with. I'm guessing that if this were something like "We made a new game and if we get 1000 preorders we'll print it" you'd see that number hit pretty quickly. But in this case it's for a UMD copy of a game already available via digital download. The market for this is going to be very small. Anybody who wants the game already has it. The people this preorder scheme is marketing to are folks who either want the game but refuse to pay for a download or did pay for the download and now want to pay again for a physical copy. I'm going to guess that those people are few and far between. Plus, as was said above, this isn't exactly getting a whole lot of press.

Aussie2B
10-30-2009, 01:53 PM
Yeah, I know. 1000 just seems like such a small number to me. You'd think you could get enough collectors alone to sign up, just on the potential of this becoming some valuable rarity down the road.

Bojay1997
10-30-2009, 02:03 PM
I already pre-ordered two copies a week or so ago, but having said that, I'm not surprised that this isn't flying out the door. The game has already been released for months, it is designed for very specific gamers and really doesn't have broad appeal and they jerked us around once before by waiting until the very last minute to decide it would be download only. The fact that they are also posting that they are looking for retailers to carry it is equally unhelpful. There are several people on CAG for example that are saying they will just wait until Amazon gets it to avoid tax and shipping. I'm guessing I will eventually have to order the UK version since my hopes for actually seeing this released seem to be fading rapidly.

Some people love their middlemen too much. Hardcore truly has lost all it's meaning. It's just Orwellian doublespeak now... LOL

Edit: To all who Po'ed, I thank you...

I'd post a pick of a Badman UMD floating in the air with "I WANT TO BELIEVE" under it... But balloon boy ruined it for me.

For those who already own the game, how good is it? Atleast it's not an RPG. NIS is terrible at making those. Hope Prinny wasn't just a one hit wonder for my sake if I do decide to preorder this and it reaches 1000 sales.

11-08-2009, 08:51 AM
What the heck, I will preorder it today.

Although I don't think it will reach the 1000 mark, there might always be a chance it might be released anyway. So I will get one, just in case.

At this point it would be a miracle just to hit 500 pre-orders.

TonyTheTiger
11-12-2009, 11:27 PM
I've never even played the game but I put in a preorder just for the hell of it. It does look pretty bleak though. Maybe if there were 800 preorders they could suck it up and just write it off as close enough. But there's not even been 400 yet so I can't imagine they'd consider even a tiny print run.

Bojay1997
11-13-2009, 12:11 AM
I wonder what happened to all those people who voted for the UMD release on the poll they ran a month ago? Weren't there at least 1,500 votes for it? You'd think at least a third of those people would have followed through on ordering a $20 item...

kupomogli
11-13-2009, 03:25 AM
Why not everyone send an email to NIS to extend the date another month?

TonyTheTiger
11-13-2009, 10:03 AM
To what end? So they can rack up a whole 8 more preorders? May as well call it a day with such a low turnout.

Come to think of it, the entire site looks to be struggling to sell things. The Mana Khemia 2 Alchemic Art Collection, something that has been up for sale for months now and limited to 2,000 copies, still has a whole 500 units left in stock. They even put the item back on the front page, probably to spur sales.

kupomogli
11-13-2009, 10:29 AM
Maybe if more people knew the sites name as well. Sure Rosenqueen is cool and all, referencing their games, but really. How many people are going to know that's their official site? There were some people even on here who didn't.

c0ldb33r

I placed a pre-order. I have no idea what this game is about, I just know it's for the PSP.

Given the title of the game though, there's no way that I couldn't order it! Plus, for 20 bucks, why not.

Fuyukaze
11-13-2009, 12:06 PM

Bojay1997
11-13-2009, 05:04 PM
Has anyone visited their site today? It has some bizarre message about them not wanting people to add orders just to get production started and that if someone orders more than one time, it will only count once. Considering they are requiring you to enter a credit card or other payment, it seems like this is a dumb policy. In any event, they are still a long ways off from hitting the number.

TonyTheTiger
11-13-2009, 05:08 PM
I'm venturing a guess it's because they're afraid some people will pad the numbers to get the count up to 1,000 only to then cancel the majority of the orders later on.

They could still make the 1,000 copies, send out the games to those who preordered, and sell the rest at $40 or so online.

And it will eventually sell. And it will become quite collectible in the future.

kupomogli
11-13-2009, 06:31 PM
Or someone here who has about $12,300(more depending on the shipping costs) could preorder 615 copies.

Sony is not going to permit a 1,000 copy run. I don't know what the exact minimum print run is for the PSP but from what I've heard console manufacturers generally enforce at minimum 10,000-20,000 copies. And even if they did print the absolute minimum Sony would allow, that's still a hell of a lot of copies to move. RosenQueen can't even sell 2,000 copies of a special edition of Mana Khemia 2, something, mind you, that actually is a unique SKU and as such will probably qualify as "rare" down the line. The whole point of the preorder scheme was to show retailers that there was a market for the release to encourage them to place orders thus justifying the 10,000 or so copies NIS would have to print. But at this rate I doubt they'd convince any brick and mortar stores to carry it.

Actually, I don't think Sony enforces minimums on PSP titles now as long as a digital release is done as well. Of course, the unit costs of doing only 1,000 units is pretty ridiculous compared to tens of thousands. I think NIS' intention was to get 1,000 preorders and then do a few thousand additional copies for on-line retailers or other vendors who would carry it. At least it can be imported from the UK for about $30.

TonyTheTiger
11-13-2009, 07:35 PM
That's interesting. I'm sure you're right though. Printing only 1,000 copies, even if they can technically do it, might end up costing them so much per copy that it wouldn't even be worth it.

Edit: Well, that's about it then. They took it down from the product page.
