I just watched a video made by the HVGN (Happy Video Game Nerd) and he was reviewing NES and SNES games made by Capcom. While doing that he reviewed the SNES version of Aladdin. Also while reviewing the SNES version of Aladdin he said that the Genesis version too hard.

This struck me as odd. The Genesis version of Aladdin is one of my most favorite games for the system and I never found it hard at all. So I decided to play through it again to see if I could figure out what the HVGN was talking about. I didn't die anymore than what I did when I last played it and that was about ten years ago. On this play through I died like five times.

I always found the SNES version to be harder than the Genesis but I only played the SNES version once or twice. Anyway I just wanted to see what you guys think. Is one version significantly harder than the other? Which version do you prefer?

The game can get hard at times, Hardest level would probably be the crumbling cave after you retrieve the lamp.

I don't have either version right now, but when I was younger I played the Genesis version; I definitely remember beating it back then and considering it easy. Can't talk about the SNES version since I don't think I ever played it.

I thought the Genesis version had a reasonable difficulty level, and the SNES version was too easy.

I never played the Genesis version, but I always thought the SNES version was simple as a kid. I always thought the Genie stage was the most difficult due to the platforming. I have the Genesis version now, so I could always compare the two.

I always felt the Genesis one was a bit long and difficult as a kid, and I still have that same feeling today. So chalk me up for the "hard game" list.

Never played it until a few years ago (5 years ago?). I remember beating it in one sitting at least once or twice. I don't remember it being hard at all, aren't there unlimited continues?

Never played the SNES version...

The Genesis version always felt just right. The SNES game seemed like a mediocre N64 game: empty and lifeless in comparison. It was too easy.

Plus, ya know, the Genny version has swords.

I thought it was a tough, but fair game. Still one of my favorites to break out from time to time.

I found it a bit challenging but not TOO hard...

Damned skeletons in the dungeon stage get me every time.

I found that if I quickly tapped pause over and over again, I could simulate a "slow motion" effect that helped my beat that level.

It offered a good challenge for sure, but it wasn't too hard.

Do you think he gave Mickey Mousecapade a fair chace? He seemed to act like it was a really, really bad game. I've played it before and I can say that it's not too bad. You could do a lot worse in choosing an NES game.

I haven't beaten the Genesis version yet as I haven't really played the game too much, but I didn't think it was all that hard, not like Contra or Mega Man games. I think I got as far as Genie's Lamp stage. I played through the Gameboy version pretty quickly, it's like a watered down port of the Genesis version, that was very easy. The SNES version is pretty good too, both games are just different.

It's crap compared to the other Disney-licensed games for the console. I believe that was the HVGN's point.

I think that's where I stopped off. I ought to give it another go. I seem to recall this being after the Dungeons, correct? Also, Capcom's SNES Aladdin had caves and they seemed bland.

Yes for now. Hopefully he stays around awhile this time. I really quite enjoy his stuff.

It's definitely a 'practice makes perfect' game. A good challenge but not extremely hard.

I busted a sega controller at that stupid cave of wonders level when I was little. That level was a total player hater.

This is one of of those games where you get just a little bit farther every time you play it. Not too easy but no harder than most similar games of the time. I think I ony got past the cave of wonders once or twice. After fighting that annoying statue thing that keeps jumping back and forth to the 2 platforms. Don't you back to Agrabah after that? I'll have to try again sometime.

In the last level in the Genesis version there were lots of glitches in the platform jumping which was very frustrating.

Aladdin on the MegaDrive is an excellent game, the best version of Aladdin is on the MegaDrive.

Difficulty - about right I thought. I haven't played it for a while, but have played it a couple of times through, loved it.

While I never beat Aladdin for Mega Drive back in the day, I remember the SNES version being too easy and I beat it in three days.

If HVGN thinks the Genesis version of Aladdin is too hard, then he needs to go back to school. Difficulty is only a problem in the last stage, and not because of actual challenge, but because some of programming glitches. And, FTR, the Genesis version > SNES version.
