I recently acquired an X'eye for a good price and have had a CDX for a few years. Both are great systems. I like the CDX better because of its size and I like the Sega CD start up screen better. However I like the X'eye better because it can be hooked up with standard av cables and it doesn't seem to have the CD compatibility issues the CDX has (Terminator CD and Jurassic Park CD don't work in CDX) also I can play mega drive carts without a game genie or other pass through. Also if you want to use a four player adapter on the x'eye it must be connected using extension cables but on the x'eye it is just plug and play. I have always loved Genesis and Sega CD more than Super Nintendo even though SNES had better sound and graphics on most occasions than Genesis. I think it was partly that the controller just fit my hand better an also my brother had the snes in his room and I had the Sega systems in mine when we were kids. (Nice tangent huh) Anyway I don't have a lot of room and I mostly have systems to play not just to display and I might just sell the CDX.

I have an X'Eye also. I love it. It's so nice having one power adapter for both. Recently I aquired a new/boxed 32X, eventually I'll have to figure out how to hook it up to it, I've heard that it will work, but you'll have to remove the 32X if you want to open the CD tray, which kind of sucks.

Maybe I'll pick up a dirt cheap standalone Genesis just for the 32X.

I did the same thing -- Just got a new 32X and hooked it up to my X'Eye. You just hook it up like you would to a model 2 Genesis.

I'm having trouble with it, though. It always hangs. Sometimes it's at the title screen, sometimes it's after I've been playing for half an hour. But eventually, it does hang. This is while even using the little RF shield hooks.

I don't have any actual 32X games, though, this is what happens with Genesis games.

I like the CDX a lot, even if it is weird about using the CD unit while the 32X is plugged in. The master system converter still fits in it!

Fits in the JVC X'Eye as well - after chopping away some of the Power Base Converter casing. LOL

Although I haven't played it in years, Terminator CD worked just fine for me in my CDX. I don't remember if I got to try Jurassic Park CD.

Yeah, everyone says Terminator doesn't work with the CDX, but it works for me. However, it does not work properly in my model 2 Sega CD; it always freezes at some point in the first stage. I can confirm that Jurassic Park doesn't work right on a CDX. It will boot fine, but once you try to move past the first screen, it hangs. I've read in various places that "it works, it just takes a long time to load", but I could never get it to load the next screen on my CDX even after several minutes. I've also heard that Who Shot Johnny Rock is incompatible with the CDX, but who the hell cares?

The only thing I don't like about the X'Eye is that the Power Base Converter doesn't fit without modifying the case (I don't like cutting things). I've yet to notice any game incompatibilities. The CDX seems to have a weaker video signal (although a 32x fixes that) and the 4-player adapter doesn't fit it (although that can fixed with two controller extension cables). Minor issues really.

I tried Terminator CD many times in my СDX and it always froze on the first or second level.

There are other 3rd-party compatible Sega Master Converters for that matter (cartridge type)...Including the Official Ultra/Super/Duper rare, Sega Master Converter II :D

Yes, although those tend to go for outrageous prices. But Tototek makes one that they sell for $30 and it can play any region SMS/Mark III games on any region Genesis/MD console, and it would fit. That's probably the Cadillac of SMS converters, but I already have an original PBC. :p

I'm confused...

That's been my experience with all the 32X units I've ever had except the last one, oddly. The last one I picked up really works as advertised. I can finally play games without them crashing or freezing. Too bad I can't say the same thing about my Sega CD model 2....

I have seen alot of X'eye's in the wild, they tend to never be cheap....

However it blends in alot better with other current day electronics pretty well.

Some people say the X'Eye is ugly. I don't see it. I think it's a pretty aesthetically pleasing console.

Also, wasn't JVC at one point modifying X'Eyes with special CD doors for people who wanted to use the 32X with it? I wonder how hard/easy it is to acquire one of those.

I've probably said it too often already, but I own a CDX and a 32X and absolutely love it from an aesthetic standpoint. It looks like a ship from Star Trek or something! LOL

Interesting, I wonder if there's a 32X revision that works better with the X'Eye. I just opened mine and it has "1994" printed on the PCB below the cart slot, so it may be one of the earliest ones.

I just recently got an X'Eye about a month or two ago myself, sadly I don't have the power supply to use it and can't find one to buy at all.

I have a CDX and a pair of X-eyes as well. Strangely enough there's a big discrpency in the disc reading capability between my two X-eyes, I'm not really sure why but one loads longer and is particularly fussy about scratched discs. The other is fine.

I initially found one at a goodwill without any cords and wound up buying a "broken one" on ebay for the power supply. The one at goodwill works fine, the one from ebay merely had the door sensor issue and required me disassembling it and taping down the door close button to work.

I like the CDX more, but I've never tried to hook up my 32X to the X-eye, mainly because I like the monstrosity of having a Genesis 1, a Sega CD 1 and a 32X all together.
