I want that demo...
I preordered the sucker yesterday, but the halfbrain employee at GameStop told me there was no such thing as a voucher to download the demo, even though it was stated in the website. She kept telling me it was for GOW Collection and NOT the preorder of GOW3. Now I have to fight this if I want the demo...

Really? Based on what? All you get is what will likely be a small plastic box and a small art book. Everything else is a download code, including the making of documentary and music soundtracks. I can't see how those two items are worth $40.

To collector's and desperate folk, the pack will most likey fetch a high value in the later future.

Plastic or not, that's a cool looking box. I also am a fan of God of War so it's worth it to me. Of course, I could be completely let down by it like I was the Castlevania 'statue' you got for reserving one of the DS titles.

Unlikely. It's being distributed very widely and I can't see how codes could have much collectible value down the road.

Not referring to the codes, but the physical contents of the game, like the box and all corresponding physical "extras".
I've seen SF4 and RE5 collector sets fetch an asinine prices in the past, so I would not be surprised if this happens to the game as well.

There are only physical two extras, the plastic box and the art book. RE5 went down in value immediately and can be had new/sealed for about the same price as the game alone. Only the PS3 version of SF4 CE experienced a bump because it outsold the 360 version and the PS3 became the official system for competitive play for the game. You can still find the 360 CE version for slightly more than the game sells for alone. Unless this thing is truly limited (which it won't be), I guarantee it won't maintain its value. As such, unless you have to have a plastic box and a small art book to make your GoW III experience complete, this isn't worth it.

I want one. Believe it or not I know that it is a small box that won't be an actual representation of pandora's box but I like it and I want it for me not to sell. Is that so wrong?

The box is supposed to be of much higher quality then most extras in other Limited Editions. But having all the cool extras as download only is a deal breaker for me. The cool box will just sit and look cool for a few weeks on a shelf but without anything else to go with it after the codes are used it's definitely not worth an extra $40 outside the cost of the game itself.
By the way...the demo is pretty slick.

I am not a big fan of downloadable content. You would think Sony of all company would give gamers soundtrack instead of MP3 and documentary on DVD or bluray instead of downloading through their PSN. Seems like user are just paying extra for the plastic box and artbook.

Loosely based.
Don't care about plastic crap, yet another latin chanting OST, or character skins. I just want to stab cyclops' (cyclopses? Cycli? Whatever).
Nothing beats the Blazblue limited edition for me, because not only did it come with a two disc soundtrack and a great tutorial disc, but it was the SAME PRICE AS THE 'REGULAR' EDITION. Spending an extra thirty to forty bucks on the gaming equivalent of happy meal toys isn't a priority for me anymore: the extras are seldom worth it.

These special limited edition versions of games are nice I suppose if you're a hardcore collector, but I think for a lot of gamers paying an extra $40, $50, or whatever for the limited edition version of a game is a bit much? I wouldn't pay anymore than $20 extra for the limited edition version, like I did with MGS4. Paying $60 for the regular versions of games is too much, charging extra for limited edition versions isn't really worth it unless you're getting a shit load of extras. That being said, this GOWIII collection and the Modern Warfare 2 collection do look fucking amazing, whether they're worth the extra $$ is up to the individual gamer I guess.

If the entire game is anywhere near the quality of the demo being letdown shouldn't be an issue. Easily the best look and running PS3 game to date, colors are vibrant and the effects are gorgeous.
I'l be picking up this set as well for the sheer love of the series.

I'm disappointed it doesn't include the re-mastered God of War 1 & 11 that is being sold for the PS3. That really would have made this the "Ultimate Edition" and probably swayed me to pre-order.

Reason why I plan on forgoing the preorder and getting it later.
I bet Amazon will put this version of the game for around $60 in a few months, like it did with Tekken 6 and Batman AA.

I'm with Bojay on this. I'm not going to spend an extra $40 for a damn box. Most Limited Editions seem to just be taking advantage of collectors who will shell out lots more money for an extra couple cents worth of material (is that Madden Limited Edition fetching hundreds of dollars yet?).
This is how you do a special edition:
http://kotaku.com/5429696/the-definitive-silver-star-harmony-package-for-lunar-fans
http://kotaku.com/5233094/blazblue-limited-edition-is-very-blue-indeed
And the fact that Blazblue's special edition costs the same damn price as the game alone just makes things like this God of War $100 crap look even worse.

This will end up just like every other CE that comes out in this day and age.
I am now up to 4 CE/LE/SE games I got for super cheap by waiting:
GTA4 (I got this for $60)
Batman: Arkham Asylum (I got this for $60 counting shipping)
Halo 3 Legendary (I got this for $50 counting shipping)
DJ Hero Renegade (I got this for $31 counting shipping).
Only DJ Hero was bought used. Now I will not act like the $60 ones are as cheap as that copy of DJ Hero, but for what they originally retailed for and for getting them new, I would say it is a great deal since I got both while the games were halfway new. Well, Batman has been out for a little while, but my retro ass still considers it semi-new
I don't own a PS3, so I have no clue about the trends in ps3 ce games, but if it is anything like 360, don't waste your money. Really. Wait a couple months and get it much, much cheaper.
If you truly want to play the game, buy the game, wait for the ce to drop in price, than sell the game for the price the ce is going for and voila, you got to play the game on day one, and now you have the ce. Congrats.
Plus, I am not too sure about all the content being digital.
All of the CE's I have gotten thus far have all come with physical copy discs. That is a little dissappointing to only get the case and art book. Either that or just buy the contents of the CE itself a month after the game came out. LOL, that is how I got Renegade edition for $31 since I just wanted the stand and I was able to actually fix the issue with the turntable myself.

I like the box it comes with just not enough to drop that much cash when all I really want is the game.
The only LE I've been sufficiently impressed with to actually buy in recent memory was the Bioshock LE that came with the Big Daddy figurine which I thought was awesome. I did buy the mid range Halo 3 CE but that was more for the second disc it came with and actually, I kind of regret that purchase now since it came with that unwieldy steelcase that the discs like flop around it.

I played the demo of GoW3 yesterday. Even though I have GoW Collection, I never used the download. While they did change a few attacks so they weren't completely useless, which I might as well mention GoW2 and most of its upgrade attacks, the game was just extremely boring.
The God of War series is average at best. Amazing graphics and absolutely beautiful level design is all the series has ever had going for in my opinion. It's never reached the level of gameplay that Devil May Cry, Lament of Innocence, or Ninja Gaiden has. I didn't pick up Dante's Inferno because of GoW, but it turns out that Dante's Inferno even with a lot of similarities is the far better title just talking about gameplay alone which even the storyline is better than the oh so great overrated original GoW story which if you ask me was mediocre(even the most average RPG titles have had a better story.)

I don't know. I loved Dante's Inferno, but it was missing something and it was just to derivative. The story was great (it IS based on a literary work, so I would not expect anything less), and so was the sound, graphics, and gameplay. But it was just basically a more "evil" version of God of War, which is not a bad thing, but it does make the game derivative. And it was extremely short as well, which is a shame. Though thankfully the Download Content will soon be released soon.
Speaking of which, is the downloadable content for the PS3 version already available? The one gotten for "free" when one purchases the "Divine Edition"?
Anyway, going back... I can't say much about Devil May Cry, as I have not played it much, but I can say that at least for me, Ninja Gaiden was, and still is, prohibitively hard. Lament of Innocence was decent at best (I liked the story, but I prefer Curse of Darkness...hell, I prefer the N64 versions of Castlevania), but it's very limited and doesn't have that impact as Dante's Inferno or God of War. I know it's "to everyone their own", but at least for me, those two games you mentioned (excluding DMC) had something that ruined it for me. If Ninja Gaiden wasn't so unfairly hard, maybe. The NES versions are much easier, IMO...and much better.

It wasn't that bad. I had fun with the goggles. Plus you got the call of duty original game. The gamestop re4 LE totally rippoff and the assassins creed 1 le were the worst to me.
Even games with no game content inside the box is worth collecting, take my LE tin box PoP Harem Adventures for example, I picked up for $10 new in 2002 or so, recently I was offered $100 by a PoP collector.

Just to clarify since you seem confused about the economics here, the Prestige Edition was $70 more (not including tax or shipping depending on where you bought it) than the Hardened Edition which was $80 (i.e. already $20 more than just the game). The Hardened Edition already came with the download of the game and the art book. The extra $70 on top of that gave you just the goggles and head stand. You can buy identical quality goggles for $40-$50 on Amazon or at places that sell lower end consumer quality night vision. So, the sticker and head bust was really another $20. If you enjoy it, that's cool, but it sure wasn't inexpensive and it sure wasn't rare. It also did nothing to enhance the game experience.

Ahh, my mistake. You're right, the cost of the game new is $150. The regular game is $60 I believe, so this is $90 more. As for the NVG, I admit I'm no expert, but they seem decent for the price. If I can get the same pair for $50, I guess $20 for the headstand isn't too bad.
In any way, I still got a deal. I bought it used in mint condition (box, download not used, etc.) for $105 shipped. :)

I had forgotten that I pre-ordered the game on Amazon a few months back to get the demo code, well I never got the code and I got an e-mail telling me the game was being shipped. I guess it serves me right for trying to beat the system, since I planned on canceling the pre-order as soon as I got the code. So I'm not sure if I want to send it back and get a refund, or just keep it and avoid the hassle.

Picked up mine yesterday. Pandora's box is quite nice looking. Yeah, it's plastic, but what exactly would you expect? Plaster? Granite? The art book is very nice, hard bound with a generous amount of content. People seem to forget it comes with downloads for music that would probably cost 20-30 bucks alone. Plus the documentary and other DLC. Plus, of course the game is amazing. I'm only a few hours in, but am totally blown away by the scale. There are enough tweaks and additions to gameplay that no part of it feels stale at all. For me, at least, I feel I'm getting my moneys worth on this.

Plus the documentary and other DLC. Plus, of course the game is amazing. I'm only a few hours in, but am totally blown away by the scale. There are enough tweaks and additions to gameplay that no part of it feels stale at all. For me, at least, I feel I'm getting my moneys worth on this.
Except that soundtrack downloads and other DLC have limited value to collectors and inevitably, these download soundtracks get released free down the road. For $40 more than the price of the game (not including the $20 gift cards and other discounts various retailers were giving on just the game), I would expect more than a cheap plastic box and a small art book.

Didn't you already buy the soundtrack when you bought the game? Can't count it as added value if you've already paid for it, now you're just paying for it twice.

While it may be cheap, Lilly absolutely adores it. I think I'll keep it now.

yup, you got one without codes, weird.
I think all in all, UE is a worthy addition to anyone's collection.

My only reason for wanting this is for the supposedly ornate box. But turns out their is nothing ornate about it. It's cheap, it's made of flimsy plastic, the colors are a mess, it's a cheap toy...not a display piece.
This is about as bad as the replica bataraang in the LE for Arkam.
No thank you.

How dare anyone criticize the God of War III people after all they've been through. They are losing to the Wii. They are losing to the Xbox 360. They made 3 freaking games. The PS3 head turned out to be a loser, and a bonehead. All you people care about is gameplay, and getting something for your money. THEY ARE HUMANS! What you don't realize is that the God of War people are making you all these graphics, and all you can do is write crap about them. Playstation has not been the best selling console in years, and they named this God of War for a reason. Because all you people think you are GOD, GOD, GOD, GOD, GOD!!! LEAVE THEM ALONE!!!! You're lucky they even made this game for you bastards! LEAVE THEM ALONE!!! Please! Gamers talk about professionalism, and say if PS3 was professional they would of made an all around good product no matter what. Speaking of professionalism when is it OK to bash people who are going through a hard time. LEAVE THEM ALONE!!! PLEASE! LEAVE THEM ALONE RIGHT NOW!!! I mean it! Anyone who has a problem with the game or the way this game is being sold than you deal with me! Because they are not well right now. Leave them alone.
