Sure we can talk all day about pc classic games but that makes this topic to easy. But what about console games where restrictions and censorship got in the way? Im looking for basically games that make you think , how did this get pass censorship or , hey thats pretty gorey and violent for a older game. Stuff like Splatterhouse 2 , Castlevania bloodlines , mutant league football , Clock tower (even though thats a snes import) Violent as in gorey , blood or stuff like realistic ways of killing people that manage to pull that off in the old school era (getting stabbed , strangled)

Techno Cop for Amiga, Genesis and other consoles is nice and violent. You can also kill civilians.

Whenever someone (or something) got killed in the original Vandal Hearts, there was an impressive amount of blood that gushed up out of the victim.

Why Splatterhouse 2? The original Splatterhouse is just as violent if not moreso and, imo, a better game.
I'll say Abadox as well. That's a pretty gory space shooter.

Eternal Champions: Challenge From The Dark Side for the Sega CD.
Sure, it was a bit more cartoonish than Mortal Kombat, but dear God it was gory, bloody and sadistic as hell. Larcen's Vendetta, even being somewhat cartoonish, still shocks me to this day where he shanks the opponent to death. Then there was Jetta Max's Sudden Death finishing move with the Clown car that was so bloody and sadistic. But it had to be Dawson's Overkill that took the cake. When your opponent gets speared with a log and his blood smears and streaks all over the place coupled by his intestines falling out and wiggling then you know the game rocks!.

Not the most, gruesome, but I thought Freedom Force for the NES was cool. You shoot the guys and there is blood. It certainly wasn't a Mario game.
My favorite would have to be Eternal Champions on Sega CD, as was previously mentioned.

OH yeah! Between the Vendettas, Overkills, Sudden Deaths, and Cinekills there is plenty of gore to go around in EC:CD!

Custer's Revenge.
It doesn't get much more violent than dodging a hail of arrows in order to commit a rape.

Plus the so called "x-rated" games like Custers and Beat'em and eat'em had some crazy scenes. Was there a rape in Custers? That is pretty sick and violent.

obviously Mortal Kombat, but that ones easy.
Generation X for the genesis was bloody as hell (the snes port was censored to oblivion).
Robocop Vs. Terminator for the genesis is one of the goriest games on consoles, at least the early levels when youre still fighting humans. i mean, you literally fillet people with the robocop gun. again the snes version got censored.

The Immortal for Genesis had its gore factor ramped up. If you defeat the enemies you can cleave them in two, slice off the skull cap (and I think the brains come sloshing out), burn, skewer, etc. Just like the ad said.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre for the Atari, although a simple and silly pixel Atari game, chasing little girls and cutting them up for points, thats pretty bad. Of course as others have mentioned the porn games for the Atari 2600,seriously,someone was out of their mind if they think squared pixels are going to make someone *cough* excited. Lets not forget about Duke Nukem,Wolfenstein and Doom, total kick ass games with blood and alot of weapons and more blood and gore and more blood to splatter Nazi's or Aliens all over the place, gotta love Duke Nukem running out of jetpack fuel, falling, screaming and splat....yes im a very sick person, damn video games. Mortal Kombat of course, which brought on the whole ratings system, you seen that one coming. And finally, lets not forget, even thou it came out in the 32/64 bit era,its still a 8 bit game,Pokemon, yes I said it, catching little monsters that are confined in balls that you wear around your belt and that can do all these attacks to litterly kill you in reallife,I mean how violent is that...not to mention the flashing screen...that...gave....OH....GOD.....*spaz all over the keyboard with foam from the mouth*......seizures....evil little rat basterd Pikachu. ^^

Echoed. People didn't just die, they just exploded into a gooey mess the second they got hit with a bullet.

I agree. Very violent on the Genesis. People just kind of bloodsploded when they died by gun. LOL

Well from what I saw from playing Total Carnage for a few minutes, Smash TV has more violence.
You can literally kill a dozen people per second in Smash TV, something that few games let you do. It's surprising that the massive amount of ultraviolence slipped past Nintendo's censors when it got ported to the SNES...but then again, some of the gore was left out (like the flying eyeball when you die). Whether it was due to space restrictions or censorship, I'm not sure...

well, Total Carnage has the whole politically incorrect thing going for it more than the violence maybe. :)

Time Killers was pretty raw as far as I can remember. Cutting off your enemy's limbs was actually a game play mechanic!
Code Name: Viper was pretty violent when considering the policies Nintendo had at the time. Not only was the game about going after a drug cartel, but you had to rescue captured women and children, sometimes finding nothing more than a piles of bones.
Also Blackthorne was violent considering you could kill the prisoners.

From http://classicgaming.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Articles.Detail&id=134 :
Heh, arguably the most sick and wrong video game ever made was an Amiga game released a couple years ago, called Damage. I was one of the few people to have a copy of this game, and man was it twisted... it was a shooter, in which your character's only objective is to kill all ten thousand (innocent) people in the city, and then destroy the rest of the world with nuclear weapons. Your character is able to survive multiple bullet wounds only by ingesting massive amounts of drugs. The game also featured two instances of necrophilia, a hardcore gabber theme song, and an ending screen that showed your character masturbating in the wake of a nuclear explosion.
Now, if only that game had been a mainstream game.
Alas, the screenshots don't look like all that much.

I've always thought the arcade game Rolling Thunder by Namco was really violent. It's not gory or anything, but youre shooting these thugs that come out of doors. Theres really no explanation for where they are coming from. They could be coming out of the bathroom for all I know! It's either that or they just woke up and was like "Today is gonna be a great day!!" only to get shot in the face. Plus the outfits the thugs wear are REALLY flamboyant. Maybe it's a evil villians lair located in San Fran.

thats right! i completely forgot that there was an 'uncensored' code. sorry it has been like 15 years since i've played that game. still i dont remember the snes having it.

Going by perception of the masses it went from Splatterhouse to Mortal Kombat. I'd like to throw in Snatcher though. Had both instances of physical violence, head-less corpses etc and inflicted psychological trauma. I think the latter type of violence has a more subtle, yet deeper and lasting effect.

The Immortal for Genesis has a lot of gory death scenes, including decapitation, dissolving by acid, head exploding, etc.
Although they didn't have blood and gore, I always thought Out of This World and Heart of the Alien were filled with gruesome deaths.

Sweet home for nes. Arguably the first survival horror game that also sported some great blood splatters and dismbowlement.
