I want to get my wife an NES or SNES repro Mario romhack. She loves NES/SNES Mario games and I'd love to get her a new game :)
What's the best Mario romhack that is available as a physical cartridge/repro? I heard that Mario's Adventure is good. Is this correct? Are there better ones?
Note: I do not want one of those crazy hard romhacks, I want something fun. My wife likes games, but isn't great at them.
edit: poking around youtube, the romhack "Return to Dinosaur Island" looks pretty fun. It's also available at gamereproductions.com

The site claims its a nes port/hack of super mario special , which was a obscure hudson soft game for a even more obscure japanese system.

I'm going to suggest that as well, when I saw that it kind of piqued my interest.

If I recall super mario bros special isn't much different than the original mario bros. A lot of the mario hacks are insanely difficult. Mario adventure is definitely different from the original game. I can't recall the name of the other good ones off the top of my head though.

It takes some nerve to post a video of the PC88 version and suggest that the NES version plays remotely like it (and then call it the PC-8001 to boot). It is a "reimplementation of the level data" missing all of SMBS's advanced features.

Winner. It's a level-hack of SMB1 that is in no way shape or form similar to SMBS - since SMB1 still has a smooth scrolling level system. SMBS is one screen at a time. There's more but that is the glaring obvious change right there.

The site is pretty clear that it plays like the original NES version though. In fact, in red it says "***PLEASE NOTE*** Actual speed of the game and gameplay plays like the original Mario games, and not as slow and does not go screen by screen as the youtube video before. The game was originally for PC-8001 a very slow PC and this was the only video I could find of it in action)"
That being said, what do you mean SMBS's advanced features. What advanced features?

That being said, what do you mean SMBS's advanced features. What advanced features? There are enemies like the Fighter Flies from the original Mario Bros, as well as barrels and hammers - probably not impossible to re-implement, but beyond the capability of the hacker that made this version.
...Hmm, all the Youtube videos were taken down.
