Can anyone tell me if this is worth it?
http://www.dealscoming.com/338-r4i-gold-edition-for-nintendo-dsi-v14.html
I'm pretty new to this emulator stuff. Just wondering if I am understanding this before I purchase it. So, I buy this R4i gold and an SD card. I then can put DS game Roms on it and it will play on the DS?
Does it work?
Thanks for the help

Don't get an R4. They were good cards 3 years ago but they're all bootlegs now and the original company doesn't even make them anymore. Get an AceKard 2 or 2i instead. You can install custom AKAIO firmware on AK's and it's updated more often than R4's fw. You can buy them on DX for $10 Shipped:

As far as playing DS roms on these things, I wouldn't know anything about that since I use mine solely for 100% legit homebrew purposes only. I swear.

Are you a spambot?
This has absolutely nothing to do with emulation. DS emulation would be running DS games on your PC (which can actually be done). You will find much more information by searching for "flash carts", which can indeed be used to play DS ROMs on a DS.
Anyway, no one seems to like the R4 very much anymore. You would be better off with a CycloDS, probably.
I recommend buying from dealextreme.com , which has much better prices.

You saved up all your money and you bought a DS
But you don’t have any games and it feels like a big mess
So you’re surfin on the web looking for some games to score
And you see some Hong Kong bootleggers are selling an R4
And you think “Hey that’s really whack! That really is the bomb!
“I won’t have to pay for games if I can just download the roms!”
Don’t Copy That Rommy! Don’t Copy That Rommy!

Thanks for the help. I am going to purchase the AceKard 2. Now for the next question.
What kind of memory card should I purchase to go with it? I have a couple of SD cards sitting around. But I think it needs a micro SD card, is that correct or will my regular SD cards work?
If I need a Micro SD card, can anyone tell me the best place to purchase one and what size should I get?

Right, you'll need a microSD card to use it. Just get a Class 6 card (cards come in 2, 4, 6 classes). The higher the class, the faster the read-time which means the less slowdown and freezing up you'll get when playing games.
Some people say Japan Kingstons are the best but any decent C6 card will do. I got a C6 8GB A-Data card w/ SD adapter from Newegg for $15 shipped and it works great. You can get some decent non-bootleg card on DX for cheap too.

Whoa...certainly one of the most obscure references ever, that account.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the tip on the AceKard. I will likely buy one soon, but in the meantime, I was wondering, what is the latest (last?) firmware for the M3 DS Simply? I found v1.14, but I also saw the R4 patched for v1.18 available for the M3 DS simply.
Advice?
Thanks very much!
