Intellivision Productions will have several surprises in store for Classic Gaming Expo (http://www.cgexpo.com) attendees this year. Here's one of them.

Now you can play your favorite Intellivision games without a console or computer! Just plug Intellivision 10 or Intellivision 25 into your TV set and away you go!

Each unit is a complete video game system - with games - built into a hand controller. An 8 foot cable from the controller plugs into the video and audio jacks found on the front of most modern TV sets. A menu displayed on your TV screen lets you choose from any of the games in the unit.

The game systems were designed and manufactured by Techno Source Ltd. The Intellivision games were ported to the systems by the company's programmers. Adapting to the systems required some games to be modified, but the programmers worked with the original source code to keep them as close as possible to the look and feel of the classic games. Blue Sky Rangers Keith Robinson (TRON Solar Sailer) and Stephen Roney (Space Spartans, B-17 Bomber) consulted on the porting of the games.

"While we think the longtime Intellivision fans will get a kick out of these, they are really aimed at introducing a new generation to these fun, addictive games," says Robinson. "We've always felt that the real strength of Intellivision isn't nostalgia, but the timeless, high-quality game play."

Reflecting this, the look of the controllers and packaging is contemporary, aimed at young, active gamers. Early marketing response has been enthusiastic; a heavy television ad campaign is planned for Europe.

Intellivision 10 and Intellivision 25 will be on the shelves in some countries, including England and Italy, as early as mid-July. In other countries it will be available after the beginning of the new year. In the United States, it should begin appearing in stores around mid-August. (To support the retailers, we do not plan on selling the units on our web site.)

They plan to exhibit Intellivision 10 and Intellivision 25 at their booth at the 2003 Classic Gaming Expo (http://www.cgexpo.com), August 9 and 10 in Las Vegas. This will be one of the first opportunites to purchase these units. You could even have the boxes autographed by the Blue Sky Rangers!

Neato! The Intellivision 25 has some good games in it, and some rare ones like Wrestling too. My biggest problem with these systems are the lack of two-player support (the site doesn't mention any). Most of the Intellivision games are built for two-player, especially the sports ones, and aren't nearly half as fun otherwise. It's nice to see some old-school support though! :)

My biggest issue is the lack of a cartridge slot. If there were any way to do that, a built in screen could be far behind. Too bad there's not any way.

This will actually output PAL as well? Interesting...

If it plays like the original games (sound, graphics, gameplay), then I think it will sell very well. If it does, they better bring a lot of them to the show, 'cause I'll buy at least 4 myself (they would make great gifts!).

INTV Forever :D

Anybody remember the recent Atari VCS portable of this type (i.e. all-in-one controller that plugs into a wall socket and the TV)? I hear they managed to mess up Adventure and a few other games. If this is done right, there's no reason it shouldn't sell well. Very neat stuff!

Unlike the 2600 all-in-one, the actual INT programmers from Blue Sky Rangers helped with the programs in the handheld. They were the ones consigned to "tweak" them to fit. That bodes EXTREMELY well that the games will be just as we remembered, rather than tinkered with by some faceless chip-pusher in game assembly.

I did. And as much as I hate to say it, they SUCK!!!!

No background music, play only somewhat resembles the original INTV games.

Warning: if you like intellivision, stay clear of this piece of junk!

I'll agree that a lot that made the original games so distinctive has been altered. But on the other hand, it is kinda fun in its own right. Deserving of the Intellivision name and the good memories most of us have of that system? Maybe not.

Here's my review (http://www.thelogbook.com/phosphor/mattel/tvgame/), for what it's worth. :)

Well, each to their own opinion. I still think it falls way short of being fun though. I'm really surprised you gave it 3 out of 4 rating? maybe 1 or 2, but not 3! :o

It helps pass the time at work. And some of the stuff, like Shark Shark!, is still fun in this form, even if it lacks the fine grain of the original cart. As with all my reviews, it's just my opinion and your mileage may vary. :)
