SEGASaturno and Hidden Palace are proud to present a joint community release of an unreleased Sega Saturn game

This is the first truly joint effort between both Hidden Palace and SEGASaturno to bring you an unreleased Sega Saturn game through donations.

You have all details here: http://forums.hidden-palace.org/viewtopic.php?t=2849

Many thanks for your help, as always. Regards.

Nice! Donated a little to help the cause. I am a huge fan of Saturn. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to seeing the unveiling of this one! Keep the betas coming!

Looks like it was released - Werewolf the Apocalypse. I love White Wolf, so this should be an interesting release to check out.

Wow, looking at a Youtube video, and that game looks like total shit.

Yeah, but were you expecting a Saturn-exclusive prototype to be fun? Nothing against the Saturn mind you, but the weird architecture mixed with the limited lifespan and lack of third party support tells me that anything good for the system probably managed to make it out the door.

A quote from Assembler Forums:
"Has anyone actually played this? It's unplayable! The game will either crash after less than a minute walking about or if you grab that flashing icon at the beginning of the level your character will grow way too big. So big in fact that it won't fit on the screen resulting in glitch city. Strangely the game will play longer like this.

The version shown on the SEGASaturno YouTube video is a much more advanced complete with running ability, collision detection to hit enemies and a different direction radar.

I don't know if I an getting this wrong but if this game was released by Hidden Palace & SEGASaturno then why wasn't the build shown in the video released rather than this unplayable build? It all seems a bit of a rip off to those who donated when they were told it was a playable beta. This is NOT playable in the game sense. The fantastic Fighting Force beta from drx while very early IS playable."

The video is from a different, more complete (yet still extremely early) build. Looks like money was flushed down the toilet on this one.

If they're going to charge a large sum of money on a mystery game, they could have at least picked one that worked. Community dumps are so lame.

Thanks for the copy-paste and all, but I was responding to Baloo's comments about the video. Even if the demo released was the more complete one, it still would have been a crap game, so my point stands.

I wasn't disputing anything that you posted, just building on it.

What's worse than a crappy Saturn title? One that's essentially unplayable and cost the community $550, that's what.

If people continue to pay for such releases, it's their own fault. Live and learn. . .

I've yet to hear anyone who contributed money complain about it, though I am interested in hearing how the guy who put up $175 feels.

Well, it looks like there a storm on the horizon over on Assembler. There's no real fireworks yet but enough people are asking questions to make you wonder what will happen. It seems a bit uneasy to say the least.

As for people not complaining, I haven't heard a single positive response other than "Yes, an unreleased game."

How come the community can release shit like this, but is unable to do a community dump for resident evil 1.5

You find a copy that's actually for sale and "the community" will probably come through for you.

Because the 'known' copy was under the control of someone who was a total ass about the whole thing. It's best that it didn't get released. Besides Capcom, if enough noise was made about it, might go all zombie on people too.

A beta of a game thats been released really has little value (your Dino Crisis DC beta), unless there are changes to it. Extra characters, music and the like.

It wont read on my dreamcast system. Is their an emulator or something that could run "homebrew games" that are on gd rom disks?

You need a System Disc to run it..(the Dino Crisis proto)

Hellfire: Search for the "Utopia Boot Disc." You can find it online with very little searching and it works great.

I wasn't the one who put up $175 but I did pitch $40. I'm not complaining.
I don't even care if it's playable just that we have the opportunity to try it out for ourselves. Rather than just speculation, rumors, or watermarked screenshots to go by.
I probably wouldn't even download this if it wasn't for updating the SSF compatibility list.

I don't mind spending cash to get unreleased prototypes to the masses. Heck I paid $1200 for Tiny Toon Adventures and spent, at most, 30 minutes playing it.
No regrets :-)

$1200 for Tiny Toons Adventures? What platform was this? Was it part of a community dump, or did you actually purchase the cart/CD? That seems like a lot of cash to drop on such a thing.

It was Tiny Toons Adventures - Defenders of the Universe/Looneyverse (http://forums.lostlevels.org/viewtopic.php?t=1965) for the PlayStation 2. Which was an unreleased Treasure game (of Ikaruga, Gunstar Heroes, Guardian Heroes, etc... fame) It's pretty much a total conversion of one of their other PS2 titles.

Speaking of 4 digit sums for unreleased titles funded directly by a single person; did anyone see Santa's Christmas Present over on the Hidden Palace?
A near complete Baldur's Gate (SLUS-01037) (http://www.hidden-palace.org/?updates/c/31) for the PlayStation.

Wowza, that's some serious stuff right there.

I've dropped four digit cash a number of times now on unreleased NES games, but it was always for carts to add to my personal collection. I didn't realize that CD based games could command the same type of price tag. Very cool.

Exception rather than the norm by far. The only stuff thats gotten into that range (4 figures) that I know of for the PS has been Madden 96, the demanded price for RE 1.5, (I think the) Castlevania SotN E3 proto (before more were found). Pretty much everything else doesn't break the mid 3-figures, even unreleased (but that might depend on the title and its playability).

I've sold a few unreleased PS1 protos that hit high three digits or lower four digits awhile back...just depends on who is interested and what the games are....

BeaglePuss

That makes sense. I don't know the first thing about CD based prototypes, but I had always assumed that they would not be worth as much. Why I thought that, I'm not sure. Titles like the SotN and RE 1.5 would make sense pulling in that kind of cash though.

Thanks for the info.

Nothing special, maybe a Burning Ranger Previewable and Tetris Plus but those are only to test the Black and Red System discs...
