Not sure where this should be posted because it can go classic/modern, but lets focus on modern games and see what comes up. I was wondering if anyone has run across any laughably bad voice actor/tress or nonsensical stuff said in a game. I watched a video (link at the bottom) that has some clips of some awkward phrases and strange voice acting, and I was wondering if you guys would have more to add to the list.

Wouldn't it be easier to do a list of good voice acting in games? Well, probally not easier, but much shorter anyways.LOL

Luckily, most of the horrid voice acting is behind us. Acting quality really stepped up once the PS2 hit. But some games still suffer. The most recent example I can give is Chaos Wars, a low budget PS2 RPG. Oddly enough, despite being released at a time when voice acting is generally pretty good if not great, this is probably some of the worst acting I've ever heard in my life.

One word: Damnation.

The best of the worst? Resident Evil. Everyone already knows that though, but it does make the voice acting worse due to the localization and what's to be said as well.

The video is hilarious. That's all. I could contribute to bad dubbing, but it's a mile-long list.

Ugh. #40 is particularly laughable...

That's just someone who was screwing the audio producer guy. It sounds like a lot of the people doing voices on these things are either the programmers or relatives of the people working on the games. That happened a whole lot back in the early days. Nowadays they'll spend a few bucks and hire decent voice people, mainly so they won't have a repeat of the early '90s CD-ROM boom voice acting.

LOOK CHRIS!

In fact, any PS1-era survival horror game. In fact, most PS1 games with voice acting full stop, with the obvious exception of Metal Gear Solid (and even then Twin Snakes had better voice acting).

Devil May Cry had some pretty bad lines:

"I should have been the one to fill your dark soul with light!!!"

And of course, most of the Resident Evil games and Castlevania:SOTN were pretty bad.

Am I the only one who actually likes the voice acting in SOTN? It's like watching an off Broadway play. It's brilliant.

#23... WTF? LOL

Surprised "master of unlocking" is #50 but I suppose you should just get it out of the way first as it's one of the most obvious ;)

I will be reading shortly, but I'd be shocked if Zelda's Adventure for CDI wasn't on the list.

EDIT: In the 30s, I was convinced this entire list was fake. Then I hear a clip from Faces of Evil and realize how truly awful some voice acting is.

star ocean 3 & legend of legaia had the worst voice acting in history, barry from resident evil 1 should have gotten 20 academy awards in comparison....seriously wtf?

Tales of Destiny II also has pretty abysmal acting. Everybody sounded like Microsoft Sam.

In fact, that's probably why I like SOTN's acting. It's technically bad but it has personality. Quite a bit of personality, in fact. Same goes for Star Fox 64. Together they probably qualify as the top two most quotable games ever made. You can't say the same about a lot of other games. Chaos Wars, ToD2, and some of the other examples given just sound empty. I'll take the charming overacting in SOTN any day over the monotone "reading the script for the first time" kind of thing.

I'm also willing to give Resident Evil a pass simply for the fact that I'm pretty sure it was supposed to sound like that. They were going for a B-movie feel and it worked.

I've never actually heard the "master of unlocking" bit, but it reads 100% sarcastic.

I thought some of voice acting in SotN was pretty good. Everyone bashes the PSP versions voice acting because it's different, but the PSP versions voice acting is overall better. There are some parts I think are better on the PSP version, like the opening battle with Richter vs Dracula and the meeting with Death for example.

Here's a comparison between the PSX Succubus part and the PSP Succubus part. Don't forget to listen to the voice acting after the battle with the Succubus.
