So... I'm looking to buy a Starfox 2 reproduction cart.
Gamereproductions.com and snesrepros.com have a Starfox2 repro cart for $100, which is way too expensive for me. Does anyone know where this game is available at a cheaper price? Or would anyone be able to make me one I could purchase?

I've already sent PMs to pootle and kogami (SNES reproduction makers here on the forum).
Pootle has yet to reply to my request to make a repro and kogami says that he he'd rather not risk making one for me here in the USA.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!

Good luck on Pootle. I pm'ed him a few time this year with no responses. Nobody here seems to wanna make anything for anyone anymore. Buying off one of the reproduction sites is your only chance.

Yeah, just check the official repro sites. I've been trying to grab Pootle as well with no luck for a few months.

shadowkn55 has made me some nes and snes repo carts in the past and he's offered to make me a starfox 2 cart for a reasonable price before. I'd shoot him a PM or email.

Is there a guide anywhere on how to build your own repros? I'm also interested in StarFox 2, and I think it might be fun to build it myself.

Yeah, found that as I started doing some of my own searching. I also found this old thread:

http://www.liquidninjas.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=13388

I'm concerned because they say the game plays slowly on a Stunt Race FX cart, but I see conflicting information on how successful overclocking it is. The SNES Dev link doesn't have anything about overclocking.

So, I'm unclear on what the "ideal" setup is. (And I'd hate to think all the expensive repros out there are running the game slower than intended.)

There's no need to overclock it if you want something accurate to how the game would actually play. People are just used to SuperFX emulation, which is very inaccurate. Stunt Race FX runs much slower on a real SNES than it does in emulators, and it uses the same chip that Star Fox 2 would have if it had been released.

I always though the Nintendo 64 game was Star Fox 2 just redone with updates for the 64bit system.

It takes a lot of game mechanics, nouns and such and basically remade Star Fox 1 for the N64. It isn't an identical game but I haven't played through all of Star Fox for the SuperNES to be able to tell you.

I've got the EPROMs and the donor cart necessary to build a reproduction cart, just don't have a programmer.

Did just finish a Dreamcast with what amounts to a region free Katana BIOS so this would be a snap.

That would be about being authentic. I've read plenty about different arguements for/against using: Doom, Stunt Race FX, Winter Gold FX, Star Fox and variations of overclocking them all. They all have their pros/cons but ultimately you have to decide if you want to be able to have Star Fox 2 be able to use its game save functionality or not.

Honestly I do.

Star Fox 2 repros are incredibly difficult to make. I tried my hand at it and when you have to solder over 50 tiny wires and make other minute adjustments......the price is justifiable. It's A LOT of work.

Yes since the Super FX chip was inside the SNES cart and not the SNES did make doing an repro harder to do; However this helped the SNES to never have to have something like the 32X add on.

I don't think that you're not going to find someone who'll make you one for less than $75 (the price that Pootle quoted me last year I think). Do Kogami and Pootle even post here anymore? That thread was great while it lasted.

I got SF2 & Wily Wars repros from electrochip on the forums last summer. The prices were the most inexpensive I've seen; $75 and $45, respectively.
I did initially have an issue with SF2 not working, but I sent it back and one of the wires had apparently come loose. He fixed it and re-sent it and I've enjoyed it ever since!

These chips are most likely why retrousb only put the DSP1 chip in the snes power pak as he wound have to make an chip that supports every type snes chip their is and that wound be on the hard side.

You'd either have to build an FPGA to support every chip there is which is a tedious process and would render such a cart very expensive or you'd have a possible passthrough cart or you'd have to make the cart capable of using every chip at once. The latter of all that I'm not sure is possible given Krikizz over at ASSEMbler has made a cart capable of having a DSP chip dropped on it but nothing more as of yet.

The cart itself would take a lot of time and isn't that difficult for a seasoned individual such as myself, just extremely tedious and riddled with possible solder joint issues each one a royal pain in my ass to track down. $75 is very reasonable all things considered.

I heard you can use dirt trax fx too?

I own 2 repros myself, 1 is overclocked and 1 is not.

If you want to really enjoy the game I recommend getting a overclocked version, it makes the game much much better for obvious reasons [it has a good framerate].

If you want to be authentic then sure get a standard repro. Maybe your eyes will adjust to the low framerate, but for ppl like myself who have been spoiled by modern games...Its not possible.

The save is not a issue for me, but that is another thing to consider of course.
