2 other friends and I just finished it up, I have to say that it is one of the greatest games I have ever played and by far the best Wii game yet! We didn't 100% it just beat the final boss on a quick runthrough.

My main problems with it were the 2 toad characters having no name and not speaking english, but it was alright.

The game play was AMAZING, by far some of the most creative and fun bosses in a Mario game and one of the most brutal and epic final boss battles ever.

What is everyone else's thoughts? I absolutely love it.. and the red case was a nice touch!

How you already get it?....dosen't even come out here till today, you already finished it up?...WOW plan to take my time with it when I get it on tuesday from amazon, can wait a few days when I only paid $38 for it:-). Really looking forward to it as it's one of my most wanted games this fall!.

I plan on picking it up this week but probably won't get serious about playing it until the Thanksgiving break when I have some free time.

I'll be picking it up today. I just don't when I'm going to have time to play it, I'm to addicted to Modern Warfare 2 online :2gunfire:

Gotta admit it looks great.

The type of game they should have been making since day 1, I still gotta buy a Wii though, more sidescrolling goodness ftw. I'm sure it's heavenly.

Hell no. I plan on enjoying this game like a fine wine... taking my time and savoring every level.

My brother, a friend, and I picked this up and beat it together a few days ago on Friday night, and we had an absolute BLAST! Almost constant laughing and fun. Gotta admit tho that we quieted down a bit trying to finish off those harder levels in World 8. They were pleasantly challenging... which is a nice change of pace from other way-too-easy 2D Nintendo offerings. But yeah... great game.

My only beef with it is the motion controls. It really bugs me that the classic controller isn't compatible with the game because you have to do these stupid waggle motions to make Mario flutter in the air and pick up objects. That's REALLY annoying... and kinda difficult to get the hang of when a seasoned 2D veteran like myself has instincts to actually press buttons instead of make motions... ESPECIALLY in a 2D side-scroller. For cryin out loud Nintendo, save that motion crap for Wii Sports! Or at least give us the option to play without it.

Other than that tho, awesome game. My brother and I are gonna get together tomorrow and finish off collecting the rest of the star coins and unlocking more secrets. Should be fun. I hope we continue to get 2D offerings on consoles instead of handhelds only.

I picked it up today and the motion controls suck. I wish I could use the classic controller too.

I am almost at the end of World 6 now. I found a cannon that took me to World 8 and I tried it briefly too! I won't be playing that much this week but plan on I will surely finish it next week-end.

So far so good. It is a lot harder at 3-4 players than 2 players. So crowded lol.. but so much fun =)

This sucks; I want to play it but I can't use gamepads! I wonder if I can build a joystick by padhacking a wiimote and controlling the motion controls with switches somehow.

This game is at the top of my holiday wish list and I expect to receive it from someone, although I do have a $100 gift card to Target if I get impatient.

Everything I have seen from the game makes it look like I'll be in for a treat when I get my hands on it. I'll take my time with it though and probably play through the entire game with my wife in co-op play. My question is simple - is the single player mode and the 2 player co-op mode the same levels, leading to the same outcome in the end? I'm sure the answer is yes but I plan on playing through the game in single player mode to go for 100% when I'm finished playing the game with my wife, who will probably not be as dedicated to obtaining 100% like me.

I don't have a Wii but my brother does, and he was planning on asking for the game for Christmas. However, as the launch date neared, he said "Screw it I'm not waiting til Christmas" and I had the pleasure of playing the game some last night. I have been enjoying the game, although I only played for the first several worlds before I had to depart, thanks to college duties. :( Seems very fun however, and I am happy that Nintendo went back to their SMB3/W roots with this game, as those were some of my favourites in the series.

I agree 100%. I had a NES controller in my hand since I was 3, and I am just not used to the motion.

Only complaint I have about the game is the motion control, too. Why can't you pick up items ala SMB 2? It would have been nice to have it as an option at least.

I wouldn't quite rank it up with SMB1 or 3 (my favorites), but it's definitely better than any other Mario game I've played. I'd rank it a little above Super Mario World.

I played it at VGXPO and I must say I was impressed with the game. I'm getting it as a gift this week sometime.

I LIKE the game so far but I dont LOVE it yet. I agree with the annoyance of the motion controls but, for some reason, I also dislike the way MArio runs. this is just like the DS version so it seems natural. It just seems that, compared to other Mario games, it takes longer for him to gain speed...like he has some heavy backpack on and struggles to run faster..

Like I siad, I like the game os far though. I still easily prefer SMB 1-3 and World over this...but I will give it time to see if it grows on me...

Are you playing the game on an HDTV or a regular CRT television? First time I played the game was on my HDTV and the delay of the controls caused by HD made Mario feel really heavy and sluggish. The next time I played it, I hooked my Wii up to my classic CRT television, and the control was MUCH better. No more sluggishness... Mario actually did what I wanted him to do WHEN I wanted. No split second delays from button press to action.

So, as pretty as the game looks on an HDTV, it plays much better on a CRT.

It's not bad, but Mario's added "weight" and the motion controls do take some of the fun out of it for me. I love how the game recommends I use the star coins to buy guides from the castle.

I am interested by Red Warrior's observation about play on HDTV and CRT. I hope to have the best of both worlds I have a Sony HDTV which is CRT. I don't have the game yet, but hopefully under the Christmas tree in my home this year.

Lag was something I was worried about before NSMBWii was released. It's not usually a huge deal when playing a 3D game like Zelda: Twilight Princess or Metroid Prime, but 2D games that require super-precise reflexes like New Super Mario Bros. and Mega Man 9 (and most virtual console games for that matter) suffer greatly from lag. The gameplay just wasn't designed for it at all.

Here's a link dealing with HDTVs and lag that portnoyd posted in another thread. I found it to be very helpful:

Picking this up when it's released here in the UK on friday. Can't wait for some multiplayer fun with friends. Can't recall the last time I was actually anticipating a Wii title!

and...Yay! 900!

Picked this up today, and I'm loving it. It is like SMB3 and SMW got married and had a child. The waggle controls aren't bothering me any, though if I could pick I'd only waggle for the spin and the propeller move (and not picking up objects, though you don't have to waggle to pick up shells). Some of the motion controls are welcomed, like tilting the balance beams.

Not noticing the difficulty mentioned in many reviews...yet. I'm only on World 3 (and a taste of 5 I found through a canon). The difficulty seems more on par with SMB3 than SMW (3 being harder IMO), though this game hands out 1-up like nobody's business...and if you've played the old games you'll see tons and tons of opportunities for multiple/infinite 1-ups (ala don't land keep stomping, string together starmans, use turtle shells to knock out many enemies).

Looks like there's a ton of replay if you go back and get all 3 big coins for every stage, and alternate exits (I have only found 1 alternate exit).

I played some single player and some 2player. Being able to play 2 player is fun, I can only imagine the chaos of 4. We were always getting in each others way, fighting for coins, but it works well, and is fun. You can work together or work against each other, it is up to you.

Also, the penguin suit is a welcomed addition to the mario suit repertoire :)

It'll probably depend entirely on what tv you're using. I just got a 47" LG LCD set on sale that's only 60hz, 5ms and I don't experience any lag, be it in rock band or mega man 9

I don't know about everyone else but I can see why it's so easy to get extra lives in this game. I thought I was good at platformers but it appears I'm way out of practice. I died like 8 times in a row on the first level of world 2, its mostly just my impatient and trying to fly through the level. This game is so classic though, I love the fact that you can play with people as my wife has gotten into it to. It's such a perfect mix of Super Mario 1, 3, and World. The first true sequel to Super Mario World.

To me, it sucked. it was way too easy. I beat it in a day. I had a much harder time with 3 and World.

EDIT: Eh, why bother.

Has anyone noticed a little change that happens to Mario once you accumulate 99 lives? I thought it was a weird glitch at first.

Who said 2D platformers are dead?

Pick up the game today and completed the first world (all Star Coins included). I'll go into more detail on my blog but I want to say: this game defines itself as an starring example what video game developers SHOULD aspire for the Wii. A great balance of fun-loving game qualities and massive appeal for all ages. Putting the nostalgia topping aside, Super Mario Bros Wii is ,at its core, a memorable experience everyone will enjoy playing.

Just got it a few hours ago and so far I'm up to world 3. My only complaint is for bosses I wish you had the mid-boss be the koopaling and then the world boss be either bowser jr. or bowser. I suppose I'll have to wait till later in the game for this.

Rickstilwell1
11-19-2009, 03:09 PM
Bowser Jr. is on the three airships that start appearing later in the game after the castles and he has inherited use of the old Clown Ships.

At least you get more fights with the koopalings instead of always fighting a generic character like Boom Boom who has the same moves every time (besides the part where he starts to have wings for his second attack). That way you get a different experience with each fight.

I played along with my uncle on his copy of the game in the last couple worlds. I've also been helping him go back and get star coins. After he has enough fun with that I'll get to borrow the game and play through it myself on my own Wii and record my gameplay footage to DVD like I'm doing with all my other games.

Should be soon because he's addicted enough to Halo 3 and Modern Warfare 2 online.

This is an absolutely amazing game that really doesn't seem to be getting as much attention as it should. I beat it last week, and had a total blast from start to finish. This is a legitimate candidate for GOTY. Can a 2-D Zelda be next?

I do, because it was the least best console Zelda for a Nintendo system (still a good game though). I would love to see another overhead Zelda.

What happens? I was in level 2-3 (or 2-4?) and I thought "hmm, this looks familiar." It was like level 3-1 (I think?) in the original, where you could get the "100 free guys." I stopped at 95 because I remembered it was game over if you died and had gone over 100 lives. I am at 97 right now; I guess I will find out what happens really soon.

If you get 99 lives Mario jumps into a pipe and pops out of your toilet. He then comes to you and shakes your hand saying; "Thank you so much for to playing my game!". He then goes back into your TV via your toilet. This happens every time the life counter reaches 99.

A weird glitch indeed.

Bought this game a couple weeks ago, but haven't opened it yet because I haven't had time (finals week at my college). HOWEVER, I plan on devoting major time to this one. I'm so excited for it. Last thing I was this excited for was Mega Man 9 and that was amazing in itself. :D

Awesome! I never made it to 99 because I died at the mid-level castle! I will have to double my efforts...!!

Ah, finally got the last Star Coin today (I don't give a crap what anybody says, getting all the coins in World 9-7 is frikkin hard).

I loved this game. There were a few points where I felt like embedding the remote into the drywall, and a couple of things that could have been improved (like taking Yoshi into other levels), but overall, it was incredibly fun and challenging. 2009 was a very good year for 2-D gaming on the Wii.

Great Game, and I am glad that Nintendo has taken notice that mainstream gamers want 2D games. The game is not perfect, and would have loved to have wi fi mulitplayer, but overall my wife loved to play this with me, so for me that automatically makes it an 9/10 for me. I hope that more titles get remade to capture the old school feel, with new school modes.

The only thing I really miss is like in SMW for the SNES, the animation when you defeat a Koopa is missing (like blowing up the castle).
