All right. We are going to a 1 v 1 fighter I played a lot on the Neo Geo system at my bowling alley in between bowling leagues. Samurai Shodown II (Electric Boogaloo). So, who are your favorite fighters? Any good strategies? Fun tricks?

Let's now get the rules bit out of the way.

Club Rules

01. You do not need to sign up for the club. If you want to participate, simply download the game of the week and post about it!

02. At the end of the week, I will randomly select a game from a list of nominations.

03. The current MAME Club Pick of the Week can be found every Monday stickied at the top of the Arcade Alley.

As far as the ROM. It's kind of big (over 13 Megs), so I'll see if I can get it sent to the mighty Flack later tonight. If you need it before I can get it out there, PM me.

Also: it's a Neo Geo game, so you may need a BIOS as well. Again, if you need help before things are up, let me know.

Previous MMMC games: Jump Coaster, Rampart, Jungler, Ninja Emaki, Port Man, Psycho Soldier, Metamoqester, Gunbarich, Sengoku (series), Snacks'n Jackson, Metro-Cross, Moon Shuttle, The Real Ghostbusters, Moonwalker, Black Widow, Kid Niki, Joust 2, Super Contra, Shoot-Out, Raiden, Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Dead Connection, Gate of Doom, The Outfoxies, Popeye, Baseball Stars 2, Intrepid, 1943, Super Pac-Man.

One of my favorite games ever. Perfectly balanced, methodical, and gorgeous. Really separates itself from the pack, since everything you do is so risky. The fierce strikes leave you completely open so you have to pick your shots. Just love that concept, a wonderfully implemented risk/reward system.

I have Samurai Shodown III on my MVS, and I absolutely love it. I've heard that the second one is actually better -- can't wait to pick one up and give it a go. Perhaps I'll MAME it sometime later today?

Sorry, I had something come up last night which made me forget to post the ROM for anyone that needed it. I'm currently working on it. Thanks for your patience if you are waiting.

Excellent choice for GOTW.

I hooked up my MVS1C with SS2 cart to the supergun and played for a couple hours, had quite a bit of fun, though my eternal nemesis Ch(eap)am Cham gave me a few setbacks.

What's great as others have mentioned is the balanced gameplay. You cannot spam any move at all and you have to develop a good strategy to win against all opponents.

I generally use Genjuro to challenge myself, as he's a bit harder to be effective with I've found compared to characters like Haohmaru etc.

I'm not much for high scores in general but I did clear the game with Genjuro and Galford on difficulty 4.

I probably have too many suggestions in the pool already, but I'll suggest MERCs by Capcom and Rolling Thunder by Namco if they aren't already in there.

Have the game on Samurai Shodown Anthology PS 2, the games great, you really must learn the fighting system on this as the CPU won't let you spam the whole attack over and over again. I've also never finished the game as I eventually lose patience, though I once had enough patience to beat Amakusa in the first game.

I'll take a stab with a pick, Gyruss or Sexy Parodius if they haven't been chosen before.

I own this cartridge and anyone who I have ever played has beaten me, including small children.

I've got this on XBL (one day MVS 4slot, you'll be with me...). God the cheapness of the AI just irks me to no end. I'm sure i'd be doing a bit better if I had a fighting stick but I can not get past about fighter #6-7 when I'm playing on XBL using my controller. They get all kinds of hits, that I can never get and I die. ALOT.

Other than that I L O V E SamSho. One of my favorite series on the AES/MVS.

I still haven't gotten around to playing this one (yeah, I run the thing and can't play the games, how much do I suck?), but I did want to comment on one thing as a reminder related to the club as a whole that Arasoi brought up...

You can never have too many suggestions in the pot :) In fact, I don't keep track at all as to who suggests games. I just keep a list in a note on my desktop, and count up how many entries are in the list. Then I go to random.org, and use their generator to choose the game. So by all means, suggest as many games you like. We may not pick them the next week, or even month, but they are always up for grabs until the number generator smiles upon them :)

Having said that...we currently have 30 titles in the list. Which is tied for the most we've ever had! And absolutely none of them are mine! I do plan to add in a couple picks of my own, which I'll list in the current thread when I get to playing Berzerk this week.
