View Full Version : Do you tend to pay more for exclusive games rather than multi platform games?

I raise this question because I find myself paying full price a lot more for exclusive games rather than multi platform games. I've paid full price for such exclusives as Uncharted 2, MGS4, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, LBP, and Infamous among others and haven't regretted it at all because they're all great games. But yet when I walk into a game store I just can't bring myself to spend full price on multi platform games like Need for Speed, Borderlands, Assassins Creed, Madden, Spider Man, etc. I have a few theories on this: I find sometimes, not always, that multi platform games just aren't as good as exclusives, there seems to be one good version of the game while the rest are glitchy ports sometimes. Some, but not all, multi platform games seem to get discounted a lot faster than exclusives. It seems like EA and Activision games get price drops within 6 months of release, while exclusives like Halo and Uncharted take upwards of two years for price drops. Anyone else have similar thoughts?

-Find an excuse to list off and sing the praises of Sony exclusives
-Downplay and cast doubt about the quality of games available on competing consoles

I tend to pay more for exclusives, but all other things being equal I prefer multi-platform games, because choice is good. Stability of multi-platform games may be questionable on some systems, but that's the great thing about having choice - you can wait for reports to roll in and weigh the pros/cons of the game for each system.

If I ever pay more for exclusive titles it's because they don't drop price as fast as the multiplatforms. However, whether it's exclusive or multiplatform, I try to wait it out to get a lower price for the game unless it's something I've been wanting for awhile.

Batman Arkham Asylum, Demon's Souls, Street Fighter 4, and Soul Calibur 4 were the only games I've paid release price. So if you take it by that, I pay more for multiconsole games. Also, I technically only paid $25 or so for Demon's Souls since Maxlords bought everything from the Deluxe Edition from me. It was release price that I paid, but I got most of it back.

I do think the PS3 has better exclusives, but it's hardly anything to brag about in comparison to the 360. The PS3 will never get Dead Rising, Perfect Dark 64, Test Drive Unlimited(PS2 though,) Dead or Alive Ultimate, or Dead or Alive 4 which are games that I really like that are exclusive for the 360. Also Shadow Complex and Grand Theft Auto Episodes From Liberty City are others the PS3 probably won't get unless it's a timed exclusive and I really want.

At this point in this generation though, everything good comes on most systems. Lately it's rare when a third party exclusive is good, but it's obvious there are amazing titles that are exclusive to one system or another(such as the recent Demon's Souls or Episodes From Liberty City.)

Well depending on what exclusive games. If it is franchise title, I will wait until publisher decided to release the game with addon content. It isn't worth paying full price when few months down the road the same game will be out with extra content added.

Yeah I'm exactly the same way. I paid full price for exclusives like Uncharted 2 or Infamous because I didn't feel like waiting 1-2 years for them to drop in price. There is the odd multi console game I have paid full price for simply because I was looking forward to that particular game, GTAIV and Burnout Paradise to name a few. These days though I don't buy that many games at full price, only a few this year. Games that get released on an annual or semi annual basis from companies like EA, Activision, and Sega I will never pay full price for anymore, cuz you know there will be a price drop within a few months. As far as PS3 and 360 exclusives go, I would say both systems have equally strong lineups, it's just that I've been a PS fan for so long, they just have more games that appeal to me I guess.

I honestly don't like paying full price for any games but the last two games I did this for(Halo 3: ODST and Halo 2) happened to be console exclusive games. I guess you could technically throw Perfect Dark 64 into that category as well because I downloaded that the day it came out(although full retail for that game was a mere 800 Microsoft points/$10).

I was thinking about this topic alot lately because I decided to buy Alan Wake when it releases next week. I usually wait for games I want, atleast 3-6 months. That way not only will I get them cheaper but theres a chance I'll get extra content thrown in as well(although for the extra content you usually need to wait upwards of a year or more after initial release).

Having said that, last year I bought several new release third party games around the holidays(Modern Warfare 2, Tekken 6, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed: Sith Edition) when they first came out. The difference is that I took advantage of a trade-in deal offered by Gamestop to get all of them for $20 each. So I guess I do pay alittle more for exclusives but for the most part I like to wait for all my games(exclusives and multiplatform releases) to drop down in price alittle bit before I take the plunge.

Not in the slightest. I spend money on games I want, when I feel I should. I tend to buy some stuff at launch, paying full price, only to sit on it for months. Often times those months it's sat would have meant cheaper if I bought it when I did open it. This tends to be with LE's, or series/franchises that I really am a fan of. Other games I just sit and wait on because I know I won't get to them and have really no rush to try and squeeze them in. An exclusive release, that has no LE edition that is going to go GH/PH eventually? Sure i'll wait till it gets to 30 (or less) and i'll pick it up when the GH/PH copies start to show in stores. I am all for saving some money. That 30 bucks could equal another game, if planned right.
