View Full Version : Can Nintendo Wii do lan games like a GameCube with broadband adapter?
I'm thinking of trying to get two broadband adapters, another GameCube, and another copy of Mario Kart Double Dash, for some Lan head to head play on two monitors. I know the Wii can play GameCube games, but didn't know if it could do Lan or not with GameCube games that supported Lan like Mario Kart DD. Anybody know?

If your gonna go out and get 2 broadband adapters and a Gamecube might as well throw in a second GC ($20-$30) so it'll actually work. LOL

I have one GameCube, and one copy of MKDD. I would need 2 broadband adapters, one more Cube and another copy of MKDD. (Actually, if I want all 3 of us to play simultaneously, I'd need 3 broadband adapters, two more Cubes and two more copies of MKDD.) Dang, that's gonna get pretty expensive, heh..
Not sure if it's worth the trouble, but my kids absolutely love the game, and I think it would be cool to play it this way. We sometimes do link gaming with the Xbox 360 and play Halo 3 in deathmatch. It's just me and my two kids running around on some Halo 3 maps, but they really get a kick out of it. I've tried to get them to play a racing game on 360 like Dirt or Forza 2 or something, but they can't seem to control the cars very well, and they get frustrated and don't want to play those games that way. I wish there was a kart racer on 360.
It won't work.
Are you saying that you can't play GameCube games with Lan functionality via the Wii, or you can't do it period? I'm pretty sure you can play Lan style with multiple Cubes and broadband adapters, although I've never tried it. What about the Wii version of Mario Kart? Can you Lan that game with multiple Wii systems?

The Gamecube software will be unable to address the Wii Wired Internet USB adapter. It's going to be looking for the port that the GC broadband connector plugs into, and the Wii doesn't have one. Well, I'm not certain, but I would strongly believe that to be the case.

I'm saying you can't do it on the Wii with GameCube titles (Mario Kart, Kirby's Air Ride, and any others if there were more). It requires the GameCube broadband adapter and the Wii can't utilize it, and you can't substitute the Wii's wifi or usb internet access for it. You can't use the LAN ability of those titles or Phantasy Star Online's online modes (If the servers are even still up) on the Wii.
I've never heard of Wii titles like Mario Kart Wii having LAN modes, but that doesn't mean none have one. Hardly matters with Mario Kart Wii anyways, just race each other online in a private server. Would be easier than hooking them up together each time anyways.

PSO's Gamecube server went down in April 2007. So, whou wants to play "Use the useless PSO discs as Clay Targets?"

Only the XBOX version required online. The Gamecube version actually allows offline play, as does the Dreamcast version. PSO GC is the best version(excluding PC,) far from being useless/worthless.

From what I understand, you can play PSO single-player on Xbox as long as you have a sign-in for LIVE input into the system, not an actual LIVE account.
If that is true, all those $3 copies at GS are > worthless and even $3.
Enigmus, go near my DC or GC PSO's and you lose a hand and a shotgun. :p
Never get between a crackhead and his crack... LOL

My girlfriend has a LAN cable for her Wii, not sure why.
I miss the days of split screen. I alwasy wanted to find a way for one system to display on 2 or more screens, hell, my computer can do it, its just an extra cable and maybe a video card, so why not these new systems? cuz they're greedy bastards.

Me and my roomate used to play GoldenEye and Perfect Dark on 2 TV's using a video spliter. We'd throw a towel over the other persons side of the screen so we couldn't see what each other was doing.LOL

It's not a cable for connecting two Nintendo Wii's together. The Wii LAN Adapter enables a connection from an ethernet port to one of the USB ports on the back of the Wii console. It's for people that want a wired internet connection rather than using the console's Wifi features.
