Hey, first time posting. I've been scouring the internet a bit about the DragonWarrior/DragonQuest series. I was wondering if anyone knows if any of these games (particularly the oldest ones) have been re-released at all.
I know I can track down the original NES cartridges and what not, but I'd prefer a re-release of some sort if there are some available.
Any information would be great.

I know the original Dragon Warrior 1 and 2 were re-released on a single cart for the GB Color, and I think DW3 was released for it also.

Dragon Warrior I+II on a single cart GBC
Dragon Warrior III for GBC
Dragon Quest IV and V (separate releases) on DS
Dragon Quest VI is supposed to come out eventually on DS for the first time in North America (although it's still listed as TBA).
Voilą.

Dragon Quest I+II and Dragon Quest III also had re-releases on the Super Famicom (and have undergone fan translations).
Dragon Quest IV had a re-release on the PS1 (using the DQ7 engine), but went unreleased in the US due to the bankruptcy of the company that developed the game.
Dragon Quest V had a re-release on the PS2 using the DQ8 engine.

I suprised these games haven't showed up on the Wii's Virutal Console yet.

Honestly? Me too. Especially the first one, since it's so short and virtually everyone that subscribed to the early Nintendo Powers got a copy.

This is wrong actually.

Well. it's SquareEnix now, and they're going to make you buy full-priced remakes and graphical updates forever... It would be pretty surprising to see these on VC!

Well... Dragon Quest V was re-released on the PS2. But I don't think it used 8's engine. But of course it was Japan only.

I know it had a rerelease, it's just not Dragon Quest 8's engine. A few things can tip you off. It was released earlier, it's not cel shaded, and also more very obvious things about it. It looks like a PS2 version of the DQ7 graphics engine, which was also used on DQ4 for the PSX(the DQ7 engine.)

It never fails to amaze me how beautiful Dragon Quest 8 looks. It's not my favorite, probably one of my least favorites in the series, though it is a good game. But man. The graphics are amazing. I wish every developer put forth the effort to make their games look as good as this. We know Level 5 once again made a beautiful game with White Knight Chronicles for the PS3, let's just hope the gameplay is just as good.
