Ok, check this out. I just got into Retro-Gaming in the last two months. My first purchase was on May 25th. So far I've spent $281.87. In only 22 days I've spent nearly 300 bucks! Of course, part of the reason, is that I didn't have any of the old systems or games, so I was starting from scratch. And also part of the reason, is that I really didn't know what I was doing and I was paying way too much money for stuff.

Here is a breakdown of everything I've bought.

(All amounts include shipping or taxes)

1. John Madden 93 - Genesis - loose cart - GameCrazy - $0.53

2. NBA Live 95 - SNES - loose cart - GameCrazy - $2.14

3. Super Nintendo System - 4 controllers - AC Adapter - RF Switch - all loose carts - Super Mario World - Gradius 3 - Fatal Fury - Pink Panther goes to Hollywood - Donkey Kong Country 2 - Donkey Kong Country 3 - Super Ghouls and Ghosts - Super Star Wars - Ebay - $49.25

4. Nintendo 64 system - 1 controller - AC Adapter - Video Cables - GameStop - $21.54

5. Turok:Dinosaur Hunter (N64) - loose cart - GameStop - $6.98

6. Sega Genesis system - 1 controller - AC Adapter - RF Switch - GameCrazy - $21.54

7. Sega Genesis extra controller - GameCrazy - $3.22

8. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Genesis) - loose cart - GameCrazy - $5.38

9. John Madden 95 (Genesis) - loose cart - GameCrazy - $1.07

10. Nintendo 64 Memory Card - GameCrazy - $5.38

11. Sega Saturn system - 1 controller - AC Adapter - RF Switch - GameCrazy - $21.54

12. Skeleton Warriors (Saturn) - complete - GameCrazy $5.38

13. Nintendo 64 Rumble Pack - GameCrazy $3.22

14. Turbo Grafx 16 system - 1 controller - RF Switch - TurboBooster - No AC Adapter - Keith Courage in Alpha Zones - China Warrior - Victory Lap - Ebay - $56.53

15. Atari Jaguar controller extension, Sega Genesis controller extension - Ebay - $9.49

16. World Class Baseball (TG 16) - complete - Ebay - $5.49

17. Starfox 64, Blast Corps, Body Harvest, Goldeneye 007, DOOM 64 (all N64) - loose carts - GameStop - $27.98 - Price per game $5.60

18. Gunstar Heroes (Genesis) - loose cart - GameStop - $5.38

19. Nintendo 64 controller extension - GameStop - $3.22

20. Daytona Championship Circuit, Scud: The Disposable Assasain, Sega Rally (Saturn) - Ebay - $18.64 - Price per game $6.21

21. Virtua Cop (Saturn) - Ebay - $4.04

22. Virtua Figher 2 (Saturn) - loose CD - Ebay - $3.92

Basically, looking at this list, I know that I payed way too much for my Sega Genesis system, and way too much for my N64 system. I could have got them on Ebay with a number of games, plus maybe expansion packs, rumble packs and stuff like that, for a little more money.

Oh well, I didn't have to wait for them to be shipped.

I also think I payed way too much for the Turbo. I really wanted to get one with a Turbo Booster, but the 20 dollars shipping really hurt. Plus I really didn't get any of the games that I really wanted. I also bought an extension for a Atari Jaguar controller, but I don't even have a Jag yet!

I thought that I would be getting a Jag really soon, but they are going for quite a bit of cash on Ebay right now. So I'm trying to wait for a good deal.

I know that I have payed way too much, but I'm starting to learn. I only payed 4 bucks for Virtua Cop and 4 bucks for Virtua Fighter 2.

I need to really start going to the Garage Sales and Flea Markets instead of just buying stuff on ebay on impulse, or buying stuff at GameStop and GameCrazy.

Fleas and yard sales help quite a bit, however going by gamestop prices you didn't do too badly. The TG system wasn't too overpaid for really when you consider what the booster goes for by itself. I know, I'm still looking for some of the better us games for mine still.

Another classic gamer! Most of those prices are no too bad,the Genesis is a little much but on eBay you wouldn't have saved too much money.

Gamestop was doing that buy 2 used games, get one free thing. So that is how I got those 5 Nintendo 64 games for a decent price.

Still, I think where I made a big mistake is by not buying my systems with a healthy lot of games. Sure, getting a Saturn or N64 or Genesis for $19.99 seemed like a good deal, but when you end up getting second controllers, rumble packs, memory cards, memory expansion packs, controller extensions, etc, etc. It really adds up.

There are systems out there on ebay that have all these extras, with 20 games. Yeah, they might be going for 65 bucks before shipping, but if you get 10 games that you really want out of the 20, and you get extensions and memory cards and the right video cables and all that stuff, it actually could work out better.

I'm still looking to buy 4 more systems.

1. Atari Jaguar
2. 3DO
3. PSOne
4. Sega CD

I think that when I get these systems, I'm going to be willing to pay more money to get a larger lot of games and accessories.

For some reason, I just think that paying more than 50 bucks for something off Ebay doesn't make sense, but I could actually end up getting a better deal by paying more for a bunch of stuff, rather than paying a small amount for all of them individually, and then paying all the individual shipping costs too.

I just started collecting retro games and consoles about a month and a half ago im not sure how much ive spent but ill sum it up quick....
Sega Genesis w/2 games $14.00 (from a friend)

Sega Master System w/ 7 games (6 complete) $20.00 (from a friend)

3 Snes games (1 free) the other two were $5.30 each ($10.60)

2 Sega Master System Games (complete) $4.24 each (8.48)

5 Sega Genesis games at 3 dollars each ($15.00) from friend

40 Sega Genesis games (some loose some complete, and I got an R6 complete) at 4.23 a piece so about $85.00

So the Grand total is....about $154.00
And ive gotten 18 loose Atari games about 40 sega genesis games 1 SNES game a nintendo console with multiplayer tap thing and 10 loose games for free so i guess im doing okay for only collecting a month

Systems I want to get a hold of....
Atari Jaguar
Sega Saturn
Nintendo 64 (had one a while ago just to play WWF attitude)
Dreamcast (had one then traded it in for a PS2 I still wonder why i got rid of it)
Atari 2600

Im actually in "Talks" about the Sega Saturn and Dreamcast so hopefully that'll work out.

If you are looking to get an Atari Jaguar and are going to go through Ebay, then prepare to pay some cashola. I've been trying to get one for a couple of weeks now, but the prices they are fetching, have been out of hand as far as I'm concerned.

The prices don't seem to bad, but then as the auction draws near to completion, the prices go through the roof. Especially if it comes with AVP.

Some GameStops where I lived where trying to get rid of their inventory of N64's for $19.99. It's not too bad, but if you spend around 40 bucks on Ebay, with shipping and everything, you could get a N64 with the Expansion Pack, extra Controllers, Rumble Pack, Memory Cards and some decent games.

That's the way that I should have gone on that one.

The price you payed for the turbo with shipping was not too bad. It would have been fine if you could have gotten some better games. I just recently finished my turbo collecting stint. I went crazy and had to have one. But you really shouldn't feel too bad about what you paid, especially if you can't find any turbo stuff around where you live. God knows there is hardly any tg-16 stuff in the triangle area of NC. The difficultly in finding stuff locally offsets the higher prices in my opinion.

Good luck with your collection!!!

Take care all!
