Yeah, it's nice they finally recognized they weren't taking full advantage of this resource and started to finally ramp up releases. Combined with very reasonable prices and PSP compatibility, it's turning into a great service with a nice and varied selection of titles.

Seeing as I still plan on picking up the disc version at some point, I hope the exact opposite.
Anyway, I love the PS One Classics on PSN. I've downloaded 10 or so titles even though I already have at least 8 of those on disc. The chance to play them on the PSP (legit) was too much to resist. The price is usually perfect. Compare $5.99 for a PS1 game to the bullshit $5.00 Nintendo charges for a VC NES game.

I hope it does.
That way, it makes it a wee bit more accessible to the rest of us.
I'm waiting for a Xenogears release. :)
That way, it makes it a wee bit more accessible to the rest of us.
Exactly, I had a situation where I saw a copy at Suikoden 2 at a pawn shop and asked how much it was, then they told me some insane amount and told me it was the E-Bay price. On the sticker $9.99 was crossed out and then whatever the hell the e-bay price was written over it, shit like that just pisses me off.
So I hope the price plummets when it's released and ruins the lives of all the people who price these games at such an insane amount.
I'm waiting for a Xenogears release.
I am also waiting for Xenogears to be released, despite me not really caring much for most RPGs anymore, I've been wanting to play that game for years and would purchase it the second it hits the store..

Valkyrie Profile for PS1 didn't go down in price even though it was remade for PSP as Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth.
I think the collectors keep the prices up where they are. I haven't checked to see if the original Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout US disc is still worth anything but it still probably counts as a collector's version. EDIT: This one isn't. It's gone from like $150 to $30 online. But that's probably because it didn't really control that great (all choppy and stuff).
being from the UK it sucks that our release list is so lame compared to yours over there.
Does anyone know if it's possible to set up a us account and access the download service from the uk? If so is it possible to use a UK credit/debit card?
There are some great games in there that i'd love to have running on my psp.
EDIT: just thought - is this list actually for psx games on psp or ps3 - if ps3 only then disregard - sorry!

It is for PSOne games available off PSN for use on PSP's and PS3's.
And, you'd have to import points cards from North America to utilize on a North American account you created to purchase content off our PSN store.
Europe has about 50 releases, and had several more that have been withdrawn for some reason. Until recent weeks, it was far better than the selection we had over here.

...and for the fact that it was re-released in 2005. Every Target in the US had multiple copies during the final years of the PS One.

I plan on downloading Wild Arms 2 eventually. Better to pay $5.99 for a digital download, than to pay $30+ at a used game store.

Hey Rick, a good idea would also be to put the list in alphabetical order as a master list as well and the release date beside the game.
Rickstilwell1
11-29-2009, 07:59 PM
Yeah that would be easy for me because my original list was written on paper that way. All I would have to do is copy it.
I did these in order they came out by checking them off in the order of release date. Took a while but it was cool. I did that so I could transition this thread to the format that they use for Wii VC and Wiiware every time there is an update to bump the post, but I'll make this thread better than that and keep editing the first post on page 1 to show all the new titles.
I just might not get back to the list every single exact date something comes out.

80. Command & Conquer Red Alert Retaliation
81. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
Hooray for Command & Conquer and Resident Evil fans, your trilogies are complete.
Now where's Gex 2? I hate it when they rerelease series in the wrong order, but Nintendo does that too. I don't understand it.

I heard this too. I think PSX games. Supposedly they were going to release the games and localize all the menu's, and if it's an RPG I'd also assume the stats screen. If they release Brigandine Grand Edition as an import PSN release I'll pick it up.

Sounds like wishes from fans rather than truth. I doubt this rumor has any basis in reality.
Wouldn't be surprised if a game or two was translated by a developer and published though. Sony, no doubt, could care less if a PSOne release going up on PSN was never before released in the states.

There shouldn't be, they're just disc images running in the same emulator disc do.
But there does seem to be the occasional differences, Silent Hill for example has supposedly been reworked a bit to resolve some issues the game had when the disc was running in Sony's PSOne emulator.

Yes with every page intact, and you can view it either on the PS3 or PSP.
I only bought Suikoden so far, just to be lazy and not get up and get my disc, to play it on PSP and to show support for the service so I can say with my wallet "I want more RPGs like this downloadable"
I only bought one other game off PSN and that was Beats for PSP, the best portable rhythm game ever made.

The issue is with a lot of these publishers going defunct, and Sony only accepts PSN submissions from the original registered publishers... that's why you won't see many titles ever.

Sony will accept submissions from anyone that owns a title in question. Who originally published a title has no bearing.

... if you have source to modify to reflect updated information on the title screen/etc... Lots of titles have no source.
Can you provide an example of one that's been approved/uploaded but is not from the original publisher?
Leo_A
12-04-2009, 07:47 PM
Sure, I found one within 30 seconds of quickly glancing over a list of PSOne releases. Hardcore 4X4, which was published by American Softworks Corporation, a company that went under quite a few years back. Granted it has only seen a European release so far on PSN, but I don't see why that matters.
I assure you that Sony has no rule regarding PSOne releases only being submitted by the original publisher. Many of these games no longer have any relation to their original publishers since those contracts have lapsed and rights have returned to the original developer (Including this example I provided, which is fully owned by Gremlin Interactive, whom developed it). Barring titles that were self published by large development houses, such as Konami, you'd be hard pressed to find a game being published for rerelease by the same company that did it 10-15 years earlier on a different console.
Another set of examples are the recent rush of Command & Conquer games, which were developed by Westwood and published by Virgin. Westwood no longer even exist, having been brought out and then dissolved by EA years ago. And Virgin had nothing to do with these rereleases. Those facts didn't affect EA's ability to release these on PSN at all, Sony will accept submissions for consideration from any company that has ownership. I have no doubt there are many other examples if we were to closely look at what has been released worldwide so far on PSN for PSOne classics.
And I imagine excising any signs of a original publisher could be fairly easily done even without the source code, which I suspect would exist anyways for most any decent company in recent years. That data isn't neglected at every company like it is at Sega...
What made you think Sony had a policy like that?
skaar
12-04-2009, 11:00 PM

Leo_A
12-05-2009, 12:12 AM

I'm not sure I understand your last message, but I assure you, no such policy exists. Who has ownership is all that Sony is concerned about.

I'd love to know how you can say that with such certainty. ;)
For starters, there is no shortage of examples on PSN of PSOne titles from publishers that are defunct, have been dissolved after acquisition by a larger firm, or companies that have merged to form a new firm (Such as Square Co. and Square EA, both of which technically don't exist now).
Secondly, I'm privileged to know some of the inner workings of this process when the two Oddworld titles were recently released on PSN.
May I ask where your statement originates from?
i didnt see Call of Duty classic w/ online play on the list. i thought it was added on the 2nd of Dec?
This list is for PSOne rereleases on PSN. There was never a Call of Duty title on the PSOne, and the original Call of Duty has never had a console release until now on XBLA and PSN. You'll find it with the other original releases on PSN, not in the PSOne section.

I kind of wonder if Oddworld is unplayable on PSP. That game required more buttons than the PSP has (both sets of shoulder buttons).
Analog left is L2 and analog right is R2. You can also reconfigure each game however you want. So for example. Armored Core Master of Arena uses L2 and R2 for aiming upwards and downwards. It's not used too often though so just use it when specifically needed. Hitting both L2 and R2 went back to a level view though so that right there would be impossible(without doing it manually) if the option of L2+R2 isn't there for a button combo.
Another is Mega Man Legends. Whenever you shoot it's partially homing as long as you're aiming in the same direction, so without lock on it's fine. However you can always press the analog and shoot if you wanted. It's not really the best thing in the world, but it's really not difficult and easy to get used to it. Another thing is that you could always switch it to O for lock on and the dash boots to R2. So there are a few changes that could be done to make the gameplay work.
Games that have no control reconfig you can go into the home menu and reconfigure the PSX controls to be whatever buttons you wish.

I bought international track and field last week, and was really pretty impressed with it. The character models still look pretty nice, and the gameplay is fun, even if it can get a little esoteric and frustrating. This is a great update to the original t&f. The ds versions got more going for it, but its impossible to play using the touch screen. As such, I think I prefer thiss old ps1 game. Its a really solid classic arcade-style game that I think a lot of people have overlooked. If u like t&f, this is a pretty good deal for $6.

Not a new release but Capcom came out and said we probably won't ever see Rival Schools on the PSN due to some issue with the IP or something like that. So Skaar is probably right with the original developer/publisher thing.

Rival Schools was developed and published by Capcom in Japan and North America.

Not a new release but Capcom came out and said we probably won't ever see Rival Schools on the PSN due to some issue with the IP or something like that. So Skaar is probably right with the original developer/publisher thing.
As mentioned over at Kotaku, rights in Japan are entirely different and less straightforward than they are in the US.

So er... anyone have any games from defunct publishers they'd like to see on PSN? :)

No idea who has the rights to that one anymore... I can't even find a phone number that's in service.

Today's update is Final Fantasy 8! Finally another big name RPG enters the list. That's pretty nice not having to lug 4 discs around.. and play this on a PSP.

It's just BARELY a game. Once I get my capture rig set up again I'll show the world just how bad this is.

Awesome list, thanks so much for putting it together! I had sorta abandoned hope a half a year ago... It's nice to see what they have, and I am also hoping for a Suikoden II on Christmas! (enough of the annoying licensed/not, good/bad nerd talk people!)

It took a whole month to get a new PS One Classic thanks to the new PSN mini series of games, but all we get is Championship Bass :(
But hey last time they gave us FF8 and now the new Vandal-Hearts is out so there's still lots of fun to be had via PSN for PS3 users. And FF8 on PSP is just a cool idea in itself.

What the fuck. Oh well. I guess it could be worse. They could be renewing "EA Sports Classics" and putting up Madden 96 or some other abortion up there.
I want the Sentinel Returns!

This list is great. I finally succumbed to the temptation that was getting a PS3. I've bought no disc based games yet, but I'm enjoying Flower, Final Fantasy VII and Braid.
Like many others, I already have a copy of FFVII, but for $10 (what I paid originally for the GH Version) I had to have it stored conveniently on my PS3 hard drive. Not as tempted to buy FFVIII due to having purchased a PocketStation since the last time I played it, and want to use that with the game the next time.
It would be cool if they made available FF IX, soon. Then I'd actually break down and get FFVIII as well, just to have those three on there.
Anyway, great list, thanks for maintaining it!

sony produced USB memory card readers for the PS3 when it was launched. they ran about 15 dollars. system updates since then now allow this device to use memory cards directly with games rather than simply transfer information between memory cards and the hard drive.
if you want to try FFVIII with the pocket station, i cant see why this wouldnt work

by default they are remapped to analog stick left and analog stick right, but according to Kupomogli you can change them.

Can I trouble you for some more info?
I tried a Google search, but I couldn't find any reviews - just a couple of bad-quality YouTube vids.
I really liked Blast Corps on the N64 and this looks like it might be similar.

Like Rick said, they are on the analog and yeah you can remap them any way you want by hitting the Home button on the PSP. The PSX games you purchase can also be used on the PS3 as well.

Grandia for 9.99.
Easily one of my favorite games on the PSX. The game is faily cheap, if you're interested in picking the game up for 9.99, you should pick it up on Ebay for the same or not much more.
I'd recommend this over all others on the PSN except Wild ARMs 1 and 2.

Kupo, are you sure it usually sells for that? I just checked the completed listings on eBay, and average selling price is between $30 and $55 USD. The only copy sold in the $10 range recently was someone who put it up with a BIN, so it could well have ended for more.

Man, Grandia is a classic. The battle system is easily one of if not the best ever created.

Updated master list. Grandia was a good game that I only played a demo of yet.
they sure release things in weird order don't they? Still no Gex 2. Of course they had a big delay for Syphon Filter 2 so I'm not surprised.

Guess I was off. Just checked completed listings. Prior to this I saw them selling for fairly cheap when searching for a mint condition Grandia Xtreme on Ebay.
Sorry.
