View Full Version : Since when is Power Blade 2 one of the most valueable NES games?

I just randomly came across this and I was pretty stunned.. The value of Power Blade 2 on the NES seems to have gone way up.. So far up that it is now, apparently, among the most expensive NES games (licensed any ways):
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300370369916 (~$108 shipped NR auction)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180437134449 (~$74 shipped BIN comes with Power Blade 1)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300368038050 (~$65.50 shipped BIN)

I had to go back and check because I was under the impression this was and always would be a ~$5-$10 game. I found that I bought my original on eBay in early 2001 for $5 and that I sold a double in late 2007 for $7 so apparently this has happened sometime in just the last 2 years.

Seems really unusual to me but this is hard to label as a fluke if you look at everything Power Blade 2 on eBay (of which there is only one active listing btw).. Even more so because I still sell a good chunk of NES games and I mostly do them on NR penny auctions now because demand for NES games seems to be down by quite a lot.

Anyone know of any other NES games that have done this in recent years?

I'm guessing it is because Power Blade 2 is a relatively uncommon game, and during the past year or two, the amount of NES collectors has increased by quite a number.

Gotta catch them all!

Everything that Evan said, and it's actually a decent game. Also, NES collectors are crazy. They are starting to rival Turbo-Grafx collectors.

Same way with Panic Restaurant. It shot up.

I was about to mention this one. Used to be worth like $30 now it brings around $100.

I have a copy of Tagin' Dragon. I Bought it when I first started collecting over 5 years ago. At that time it was worth $5. Now it's worth around $30.

So many titles have gone up not just Power Blade. Be interesting to see how it performs in the future.

It's definitely one of the rarer NES titles, but does it deserve $100 loose? No. Same with Bonk.

Theres a couple reasons. The one I do not like is wak ass people starting the auctions higher and higher. Wait for an open auction that starts at .99. Then you will see what it's really worth. Also It is X-mas time. Very bad time to find something cheap. Also this has been happining to all the licsenced 8's. Except Mirical Piano, Waynes World and another I can't think of ... Becuase they suck. Panic Resturant shot way up this year.Bonk's been up there for a while. Another theory is becuase alot of collectors are getting close, say 20 or 30 left, and they are starting to bid on these. It's great though if you can find an extra in the wild. Straight cash money. Wait till the slow season to pick these up. Summer or Late Summer.

I found a couple of copies of Power Blade 2 loose...I had no idea the value shot up that much in the past couple years. I always remembered it being $5-$10 as well.

I'll make sure to keep an eye on this one, as I seem to come across copies of it fairly often.

I've been looking for PB2 for a long time actually. I haven't wanted to pay the prices I've seen on eBay either, though.

Incidentally, the first one seems to be vaguely based off Power Blazer for the Famicom (mainly the graphics), a very hard and really not terribly fun game that's a stage-by-stage grind. Have had that one for a long while. As I recall the main character, the levels, and especially the weapons work somewhat differently though.

I know that there's an NTSC prototype of Power Blazer that did later become Power Blade, so the two are indeed very closely related.

If anyone is interested in this game but not necessarily a collector, than they should go ahead and settle for the first PB game. It's extremely common, very inexpensive, and light years more fun to play. The second installment was a major let down considering how much I enjoyed the first.

I thought it was the box that was especially rare for this game... why is the cart going to huge bucks these days? I never thought it was that hard to find to justify it going for $60-100 for a loose cart.

Yeah 100 is a lot for a loose cart. But many loose carts are getting a lot. A CMII just sold for 400 Mike Gedeon and I bought cases of this one back when it was under $10 NEW. It wasn't THAT long ago.

10 years is a long time considering that game collecting is no more than 20 years old. I say 10, because it was 9 years ago that I bought my CMII from Etler for $50 or so. CMII is a lot rarer than anything Taito's pooped out, even if it's a community discovered release.

I don't think Power Blade II deserves $100 even CIB. It's a stretch. It's higher imo only since it is a late Taito release. I think all of those are high now or have been high for some time. The only ones that haven't really is Dungeon Magic and Toki.

Even with all the new NES collectors, CIB NES is still out of reach for a lot of them so loose will continue to retain value and/or grow. Even me, with a loose set and top tier all CIB, I balk at paying $500 for the boxes and manuals for 5 games on the tier right below them.

Wow, I am glad I picked up a complete copy years ago for three bucks :)
